Greetings from Nigeria. This list is incomplete without "The Man who knew Infinity". Thank you.
Very true.
Very true...man who knew infinity Srinivas ramanujan is a must on this list
Yep. That is the best one also - #1 in the mathematical community. Knock "Good Will Hunting" out of there because it really doesn't belong. That was marginal as a theme in the movie... and pretty naively done in the script.
Issac Elijah my sentiments exactly
That's correct. Mr. Ramanujan
"The Man Who Knew Infinity" is not given. The best Mathematician movie I've ever watched. The best one of them all.
Incomplete without :Ramanujan "The man who know infinity".... A true story of a man without resources....
Thank you, you are absolutely correct
Went and saw «The man who know infinity» after the comment. 10/10 thank you
not only incomplete, but ...Infinity should be at the top of this list.
then just make it the top six ...
@@spartanical Correct! Ramanujan sir was one of the greatest! RIP sir!
Seen all of them and liked them all. My fave has to be “A beautiful mind” the fact that you can overcome a mental disease has to be proof of how strong and smart this individual has to be. Can’t even wrap my head around it.
And of course absolutely gorgeous Jennifer Connelly was in it. Not only is she gorgeous she's also a great actress and its showcased here.
Its incomplete without "the Man who knew infinity" -Shrinivasa Ramanujan -Indian Mathematician

100% of every Indian poster wants the 'Infinity' movie on the list.
After reading the comments, I have to check out "The Man Who Knew Infinity" - thank you all for the recommendation.
In My opinion, this movie should be no.1
One of the best mathematician of all time even at his time of his last breath when his professor come to meet him in hospital he able to done the calculations on the spot on taxi no in which his professor has come into sum of 2 perfect qube and able to tell that it it was smallest no which can be split into 2 different ways in both perfect qube ( 1729 = 10³ + 9³ = 12³ + 1³ )

😆😆 ikr
The Man who knew Infinity
Yeah, I'm starting to think they're Indian bots. It was a good movie but I don't know if it's the best movie about maths ever made
Two of these movies are fiction. Srinivasan Ramanujan is a towering figure in mathematics. A century after his death, people are still finding treasures in his notebooks! Someone should make a movie about Euler, Riemann, Maxwell, or Newton. I'll watch those movies.
*Euler* pleeeeeeeese!
@@kennethsizer6217 Oh yes! The struggle of the Bernoullis and Euler's solution to the Basel problem narrated like in an anime...
THAT must happen.
...or Gauss?
Serie about the Bernoulli family
They should make a movie on tesla
A couple of excellent British films are missing from the list...
-- *A Brilliant Young Mind (2014)* about an autistic teenage boy who finds himself on the UK team at the International Maths Olympiad.
-- *The Man Who Knew infinity (2015)* true story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the brilliant Indian mathematician who grew up in poverty in Chennai and had no formal maths education, but earned a scholarship to Cambridge University where he produced groundbreaking new theorems.
Just watched "Ramanujan" (2014) film, and what was in this film that wasn't included in "the man who knew infinity" was that he tried to commit closed airways via train, fortunately he survived i.e. the du saw the duu on the floor, they both knew what he was doing, so he stopped the train and saved ramanujan. 👽
I don't know why Ramanujan's mother is against him and his wife, though. Is it because he went to a foregin country which kinda conflicts with their belief? it's like doing something, but in order to do that something you gotta do something that's considered unlawful or somet like dat. However, another guy said to another guy that he has been london, i.e. need not worry about their belief, as they had to ask for forgiveness to their goddess for crossing the sea.
As well as The Imitation Game. The movie about Alan Turing the English mathematician/computer scientist. The godfather of the modern computer.
@@kimberlyfrost4730 The Imitation Game is included in this video.

😱 wow what a movie 🎉 a brilliant young mind 🎉 so motivating and emotional
its my turn to write "The Man who knew Infinite" is missing
Nr 1 is "The man who knew infinity" because it is about a great mathematician, Ramanujan! And it talks about mathematics, not about crying over un unhappy chilhood!
I haven’t watch any of them but I think the crying over an unhappy childhood movie tells a story of what it really means to be gifted so I think the movie is pretty good
@@floorcat7985 i agree with u buddy I know that Ramanujan's movie is also grt but all of the movie in this list are quite nice
Keep the rage out of sight, it's still one of the Best drama movie in history, no matter it hurts to you
Childhood.
The true saying is: "People have no idea what they have, until they lose it".
Also, the story of Nash and his wife is by far the best, because not only is the real story even weirder than the fiction, but it is indeed real. Much like Alan Turing's story.
There was a good older movie about Turing w Derek Jacobi. It dealt w more of the issue about homosexuality being illegal in Britain at the time and how it impacted Turing's life & career than did the Cumberbatch film.
Both good films just different focus.

#1 McKenna Grace is an unbelievable young actress who is perfect for this role! She's simple, but brilliant in this part. Extremely exceptional acting to make this part very believable. She makes this part work with her acting abilities, almost grown up like an adult in this small body...
I enjoyed these films and appreciated the true life stories behind them I went to see Hidden Figures in a theatre 4 times while it was playing. Fascinated and wondering how many other stories about women geniuses have been kept hidden.. now looking for the film The Man Who Knew Infinity.

I did A-level Math. Logarithms and Partial Differentiation e.t.c. Most people won't use more than GCSE maths. I used to work for a Large Multinational Software consultancy. Never needed to know more than GCSE maths. They do teach basic Differentiation and Integration at GCSE level. Computer based Math Learning tools really helped me a lot.
I don't even know what GCSE math level is and I have a masters in electrical engineering. Throughout my career I mostly used complex algebra and laplace transforms.
@@billh5923 ALL YOU Are is a Terrorist Ba5tard. You've Got Material from Your God AND You're Pretending To Do THAT.
You're an ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. For What Reason Are You Doing a LAPLACE Transform? As an Electronic Engineer. We Use The Discrete Cosine Transform. Which is Much Simpler. For What Reason Are You Doing a LAPLACE Transform?
I played poker on Pokerstars and used "Nash Equallibrium" all the time. 🙂
Hidden Figures I just adored AND IM SUPER JEALOUS BECAUSE WE ALWAYS WANT WHAT WE CANT HAVE. WISH I WAS GOOD AT MATH.
There is a 1951 movie called "No Highway in the Sky" starring James Stewart as a quirky obsessed aeronautical engineer who predicts a new model of airplane will suffer a catastrophic failure after a certain number of operating numbers. Don't recall that it focuses on the math so much, but it's there. The basic theme is the same as the movies shown here: genius has to battle the odds to prove what others are unable or unwilling to understand.
The future shock..is a novel on it.
Stand and Deliver (I was a mathematics teacher when it first came out, and I can remember my students' saying "Sir, you have to go watch it.") Great story. Great movie.
Yesss i cant believe nobody has mentioned this one!
When did it came out?
Highly recommended:
The Man who knew Infinity
5 Gifted (2017)
4 Hidden Figures (2016)
3 The Imitation Game (2014)
2 A Beautiful Mind (2001)
1 Good Will Hunting (1997)
where is Gauss one?
I nominate 'Gifted' should have been #1. All the others talk about the struggle, but 'Gifted' goes a step beyond. It glimpses into the price that has to be payed by these individuals and window into what they give up to achieve these great discoveries. I believe if you watch this movie you can't but moved by its story.
McKenna Grace also plays young Emma Swan in Once Upon a Time, and genius Paige in Young Sheldon. I expect HUGE things from this young lady in the future.
Hello every one , wloud you like show me that where l Can find this Amazing film ?
Proof is totally underrated for this, and A Beautiful Mind shows a lot of pain too.

This is incomplete without the greatest Mathematician of all time "Srinivasa Ramanujan" and his movie The man who knew Infinity.
this is not about the best mathematicians, this is about the best movies
The Man Who Knew Infinity is an average movie at best, pretty forgettable
Absolutely 1000.....π÷0 % true!!
@@aftermath4096 not at all!!
@@aftermath4096 it’s a movie I’ll never forget. Not great production quality, but a great story about a great man. Taxicab numbers.
We get it, I hope I'm not the only one that will look up Srinivasa Ramanujan.
The Man Who Knew Infinity. In the mathematical community, this is the best. Faithful to the true biography of one of the top mathematicians of the 20th century. Ramanujan was right up there with John Nash for sure, almost at the level of a Grothendieck or Hilbert. "A Beautiful Mind" was a cringeworthy movie for those who really knew the story of John Nash and his accomplishments. Good Will Hunting shouldn't be on the list at all, mathematics was a marginal theme at best and they didn't write about it with any kind of real understanding.
Ramanujan would have rejected the description "The Man Who Knew Infinity" . To "know" something means to have knowledge of it entirely which is illogical in the case of infinity , you would require an infinite mind to do so !
@@dongraham4760 Yet it was famously said of him (wish I could recall by whom) that "every positive integer was a personal friend of his." An infinite set, of course. ;-)
Still, from that title, I would have thought of Georg Cantor.

Agree 💯
What came to mind when I was watching this. I can't consider the list without The Man Who Knew Infinity at least being included.
Agree with the comments that 'The Man Who Knew Infinity' should be on the list. I would put 'Hidden Figures' as my #1 followed by TMWKI as #2. I still get emotional whenever I watch the HF scene with the labelled 'Coloured' coffee pot.
Yes. That part of the coloured coffee pot in The Hidden Figures, also makes me so sad it ever happened.
My favorite part of Hidden Figures is the scene integrating the women's restroom. This is an important lesson on how to overcome institutional prejudice. Once the White Male project manager realized that segregated women's restrooms was hurting his team's productivity, down went the signs and the barriers. If suppression of rights can be shown to actually be hurting the oppressor, they are suddenly much more open to change.
Not just in the list but "the man who knew infinity" should be on #1.it has many more excellent scenes than hidden figures. I am not downplaying hidden figures. In this 5 only 3 are real stories. The ramanujan with 0 resources done wonders in mathematics . His books are great assets even today. He is vegetarian

The grandmother of that child (the lady at the door) also thought so, that's why the child is orphan, because her mother killed herself, for not being happy with her life, despite being an accomplished mathematician.
Every child, no matter how different must be allowed to play and to do child-stuff. You force them to do math all the time and *surprise surprise* they grow up depressed

Gifted was such a good movie. It's about love, as opposed to a bunch of self-aggrandizing adults who can claim this brilliant child as THEIRS.
Besides “The man who knew infinity” I also recommend “Pi: faith in chaos” which is a lot less known!
As much as we don't usually recognize those gifted ones, they literally made us who we're today. Beautiful mind, indeed.
‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’ - a story of genius Ramanujan, should be at the top.
That machine the Gal is using is a Comptometer, to uses it you had use two hand and it could only add up or count down (addition and division). Two multiply you had to select the required digits with both hands and repeatedly press all the keys at the same time.
Later style machine had a rotating handle which wound clockwise and anti clockwise to add, subtract, multiply and divide and a shift key. To cut down on how often you had t0 wind the handle there were short cut you could use.
To multiply x 9, you entered the number, would the handle anti clockwise to subtract the number once, then shift left once and wind the number once adding ten times the number to the result. (- 1 times the number, shift and then add 10 tomes the number = 10 -1 = 9). I used one of these in my Cost Accounting Department in the early 1960s
When the the space programme started hand held calculator were available, A HP calculator was used in the capsules sent to the moon for navigation and landing, Comptometers were no longer in use, the operators were one of the best paid jobs in a company and there would be dozens of these operators in one room. The noise created was enough to make you deaf. No Health and safety regulations in that age!

It is surprising that this channel/show makers either did not know "The Man who knew Infinity" or do not consider it worth mentioning. Even if they put all the five of these on one side of the balance and "The Man who knew Infinity" on the other, the latter would outweigh them hands down.
