I was watching a Japanese minimalist Sibu (also spelled Shibu) and he encourages analyzing why the items we are decluttering did not work out - wrong color, wrong size, wrong shape, wrong material, etc. He also encourages to focus totally on what you absolutely want to keep. For me, every new acquisition is an experiment, no matter how much time and thought and research I have put into it (and sometimes it is just the wrong time in my life for a particular item - I just bought wonderful Indian spices and have realized that I have other urgent projects that preclude learning new recipes. But they are sealed so I am hoping they will keep for a few months).
I just declutter 3 bags of clothes and shoes, I donated them to a Women’s Victim Shelter in my state. Felt very therapeutic knowing that I am helping support a great cause to women getting back on their feet. Living lighter is great! 💛
Thank you for addressing the inflow vs. just the outflow! So often, we're urged to focus on getting rid of things as a means of feeling better, while if we thought instead of controlling what comes into our closet. More intentionality there means we won't have to declutter as often! Great video. :)
At the beginning of each season, I evaluate the things I haven’t worn in the season that’s ending. I get rid of the clothes that I didn’t wear and the items I only wore once! And I think about the reasons why I didn’t wear them to help with future purchases. This helps me a lot!
I like your point about limiting backstock. Over time, a lot of toiletries will degrade as the preservatives and other ingredients break down, potentially causing eye/skin infections and/or irritation.
I’m in a big decluttering at the moment since I am moving this year I want to the least amount of things to move ( also because like you I may have a smaller space😅 than I have today ) . One of my tip is one question « will I buy it today if lost or broken? » I think it really shows if we want to keep it or not.
100% agree with you on the wishlist thing. I can't tell you how many times I've put things in my Amazon wishlist only to go in and delete them later. Another tip for cleaning out clothing if you feel overwhelmed--tell yourself to get rid of one item per week. And if you buy anything, a 1 item comes in, 1 item goes out rule. I'm currently doing this and it is working well, I'm being more critical about some of the clothing I have. I live in an area where we have 4 definitive seasons too so I know I'm donating clothing within the appropriate season.
Thank you so much for all your videos, Christina!!! I find them all truly helpful...I have been more mindful about my personal style (recently retired so it has become ALL athleisure wear, LOL), and about working towards a more minimalist lifestyle. You are so down-to-earth and practical in your advice. Fantastic!!!! Keep up the great work!
Love the idea of decluttering as maintenance. Decision fatigue is real, and the easiest way to minimize it is by making small decluttering choices regularly instead of letting stuff build up and then dealing with it in one go
lol funny to notice the different need for back-ups. My backups are more like deodorant, pads, toilet paper, pens. And I don’t compromise on this backups, I don’t consider them clutter; I consider them a necessity
I have decided to only keep three outfits head to toe for leaving the house in. Saves so much time and I know I will look my best in all of them. Love these decluttering vids.
Excellent as always. Love Tru Earth. Brilliant for travel. I disagree with one thing…lipstick! I wear Maybelline superstay 24 hour liquid lip. Its a different colour in the UK. I always have 3 backups from Canada-i use 3 a year! Love the content. Especially love the wishlist. Brilliant idea. Thanks
I am constantly decluttering but I've made a goal to reduce my wardrobe by 100 items before September 1st. Within the first 3 weeks, I have rehomed 28 items so I figure my 5 month timeline may be a little excessive but also easily achievable.
You give great advice! I have been working on decluttering all areas of my home and it's such a process. I love the change of mindset from negative to positive! I'm also working to stop the "inflow" and use what I have! You're an inspiration ❤!
I gotta say, I love TruEarth. I'm Canadian but spend a lot of my year in Australia and while you can buy them down there, it tends to be a little more $$, so I usually throw an envelope in my suitcase. Which reminds me, these are GREAT for when you're travelling - no powder or liquid spills if you're away long enough to need to do laundry but not so long that you can justify buying detergent there. Also: the water in Perth is SO hard and gross and makes my clothes super crunchy, so I decided to try the fabric softener strips and oh man do they work. I don't need them where I live in Canada, but down there, they are a game-changer. :)
When it comes to backups I feel like it really depends on which items you buy backups for. For example with toothpaste and deodorant I started buying in 6 - packs and it saves me up to 40%!! Ofc it takes up more space but for me it makes sense. Same with basic cleaning supplies and laundry detergent powder packaged in paper. No plastic waste there and trying our best to reduce waste and not “experiment” as much with stuff so the chances of them not getting used and thrown out are way lower since you already know you like version xx of some item :)
I have to say, after finding your channel I’ve been so inspired. I have over the years bought so much stuff I dont need, now I’m sticking with my wishlist. After 3 years of wanting a quality trenchcoat I finally bought one (I have always felt it was too much money to spend on ONE piece). Before I would buy 5-10 cheap tops or dresses that only would be hanging around for short time and then decluttered… Thank you for sharing!
backups: i put the item on my shopping list when less than half is left. i eventually purchase when convenient & the backup is only a backup for a short period of time.
Yes to me the most important is to not let enter too many items. Most clothes that we donate end up in a landfill. Thinking about it really stops me to buy without a good reflection first. I actually never declutter bags of clothes anymore because I’m more intentional. Also, like you said, a wishlist. I’m planning what I need first and then buy when I’m ready. The worst for me are jeans. I find myself always compromising on the fit thinking it’s good enough and I end up not wearing it and I had to declutter them at one point.
Yes I will be decluttering and I like the container approach eg only what can fit in a certain space. Also the would I buy it again at full price method.
I've learned this years ago and still practice it. When I bring a new item to my closet I take out an item. For example I bought a beautiful Grey pair of pants for summer from h&m. Removed a pair of white pants that I for some reason don't wear. Keeps me organized. A small bag in laundry keeps give away items together until I take them to resale.
Thoroughly enjoy for videos. Despite having a different style, I find so much value in your words, thoughts, and processes. Great content. That green looks gorgeous on you! Thanks :)
Controlling in flow is still an issue for me. I have started shopping at a pre loved clothing store quite a lot and recently bought a blouse that is pretty and is a good brand and was a great price. But after wearing it twice I’ve had to admit it’s too big. Just too much fabric and not my style. So now it has to be decluttered. So I realize now I have to be just as discerning with my $15 thrift store purchases and not impulse buy. I could try altering this top as I do sew but I’m not really in that head space right now so I’m donating it. Live and learn.
I will be getting rid of all tops that are black. I used to wear a lot of black but, it is super hot in the summer/spring and while I love being hot I hate being that extra hot that wearing black does to you. i will keep some of my black bottoms as well. What I will be getting rid of will not be replaced with the exception of a t-shirt but,, in a different color. I love the TruEarth laundry strips and they are perfect for traveling too.
I honestly feel as though minimalist and decluttering is easier when your single or not a parent. Societal norms make kids feel left out and even with adults.
I love Tru Earth. Storing those large plastic jugs and keeping the spouts clean from sticky detergent residue was so annoying. Tru Earth is easy and better for the planet.
It’s old season tibi! You may have luck on the real real or vestiare! But this color is not unique to them I think places like massimo dutti, &otjer stories etc may have!
They say always back up your backups, but I do wonder how often a person actually runs out of mascara. Forgive me, I don't wear make up so maybe I'm being overly cynical about this prospect.
Minimalist is not my style. Too often it looks like a staged real estate property with no personality. I like to have something interesting to look at wherever my eyes fall.
Minimalism means different things to different people. Minimalism and minimizing is not about reducing or eliminating personality or style. It doesn’t mean keeping/wearing all neutrals or “plain” items, having a sparse or cold feeling home, etc. It’s ridding oneself of excess, excess that isn’t used or utilized. It’s about reducing your belongings to what you use, wear, and love.
@@laurie3753exactly this, I have three very interesting outfits that I know work and compliment me. They aren’t just black and white. My house is interesting and colourful too but I don’t keep several of the same item I only need/use one or two of.
I don't understand the need to constantly declutter. I think it fuels the idea that we should get rid of items after a certain time has passed. Of course if something is falling apart throw it out or if you're never wearing something you can donate, but I feel the idea of having to declutter regularly goes against the message of your other videos

Thanks for sharing - this is awesome and a new technique to me! I’m going to try it this time
I actually do declutter when I'm inspired and I'm a good mood. I just sit on the floor when I'm sad and overwhelmed.
I just declutter 3 bags of clothes and shoes, I donated them to a Women’s Victim Shelter in my state. Felt very therapeutic knowing that I am helping support a great cause to women getting back on their feet. Living lighter is great! 💛
Christinas ad transitions top notch as per usual hahahah
😂😂😂 the more fun and cringey I can make them the better
She's so smart . ❤ love you Christina

That sage color looks so good on you!!!!! Great video❤
Thank you! 💚
Agreed! It's very flattering and smart looking!

Yes!!!! I want to declutter when I feel out of control, but I don't think I ever regretted anything I got rid of.
I like your point about limiting backstock. Over time, a lot of toiletries will degrade as the preservatives and other ingredients break down, potentially causing eye/skin infections and/or irritation.
Feels sooo good to have a fresh start in spring 🌹🌼🌷 Loved the laundry strip intro!!! 😂
😂😂😂 it was very fun to make!

The laundry strip bit was so hilarious😂😂😂 but on a serious note I am definetly gonna try these strips!!!

The hair looks so sleek and cool today 🫶
love the way you've styled your hair & blazer in this!

Your hair looks great at that length! Thanks for the great content Christina. 🤗
Aaah! Love your hair down and the bit of color you are bringing back in. 🎉

Same! This is the way to go
Me too.
You really have evolved into an amazing content creator over the years!
Whoa this blazer…. Cushions and sofa colours together with you!! 😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤gorgeous 😊
Loving the longer hair! And cute sofa pillows

Loved your outfit and hair in this vid!
Love the tips and your silver triangle shaped earrings.
Love this! I totally agree. Also.. I love that green blazer on you !
'driving around with a garbage bag full of clothes in your car!' - that hit a nerve 🤣
I literally have a garbage bag of cloths in my car right now. 😂
i know right?! she knows us too well
Oo. Love the longer blunt cut. ❤
You look great with your hair styled this way!!
Do you recommend any wishlist apps?
The back ups trap is a real struggle for me!
Your hair looks gorg 😍
I really like the orange/sage pillows on your couch! Could you share where they are from?
Loved this!

Girlllll you've got nice fit lean athletic arms! it motivates me to hit the gym again hehehe
Christina you are the best!
You are funny! I love the laundry strip piece! 😂😂😂
👙 🧺🧺😂
That ad transition though 😂
Great tips love🥰
Great video, Christina! Loved the ad intro... you had me going for a second! 😂 And can I just say, your hair is getting so long! It must grow fast! ❤
Thanks for the vaulable video:) I really liked your tips especially making a wish list ans waiting sometime to make a decision.
I've heard you talk about a wish list in many videos. Is your wishlist specific down to the brand and style or is it more general?
Love, love, your hair! And very nice video too ;-)
Lmfao omg I just snorted like a pig .... Rude. Another good ad transition
😂😂😂 I love it!
❤ from Sweden
This was the best commercial ever 😅😅😅
The problem is that I have a small closet and too many clothes for it. I love all of my clothes and don’t want to get rid of any of them.
😎we’re pretty cool here😎
Try to live out of a backpack. That is really hardcore!
Your blazer has a great color. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Where did you get it from?
It’s old season tibi! You may have luck on the real real or vestiare! But this color is not unique to them I think places like massimo dutti, &otjer stories etc may have!
Can someone tell me if the true earth laundry strips work? I’ve tried Blue Earth & it sucked.
I've been using them for years and love them. I always get the unscented. I still use a spray/spot cleaner for stubborn stains like grease though :)
I use it and it works for me, but it may depend on what the dirt/smell level is of the items in your laundry.
They are only just ok. They do not clean as well as tide, all, or arm and hammer.
I love them
They say always back up your backups, but I do wonder how often a person actually runs out of mascara. Forgive me, I don't wear make up so maybe I'm being overly cynical about this prospect.
Three tanktops on one hanger? Just @ me next time
