  • I took my Olympus PEN E-P1 out for the very first time to try and get to grips with the camera. This little micro four thirds camera has a full spectrum modification for use with infrared filters and so I screwed on my 720Nm filter to see what it could do. The results were pleasantly surprising....

That's the first camera I bought when I got back into photography this year, having spent a few years with only my phone. The silver and black one I got has a distinct "Grandad" smell! Possibly pipe tobacco. But it adds to the charm...

I have an old Chinon film camera which possibly has the same smell!

Great video! I also bought a full spectrum converted camera last year, similar configuration with 720/950 filters, and IR/UV cut. Found that you can really play with invidual colour sliders in Lightroom on full specrtum to get some interesting results, generally tend to set custom white balance before shooting! Looking forward to seeing further results from you!😀

Thanks mate. I need to get some more filters and a lens for the camera before the summer comes along. I’m gonna grab a stronger IR filter too. Forgot to set up a custom white balance annoyingly it’s something I’ll have to do when I set it up properly. Can’t wait for the summer months now.

Hi Chris. Great video and love the way you show how you can take great images with reasonably priced gear. Where is the location for this boat as it looks amazing.

There are a couple EVF for it but they are around 150.

Interesting Chris, thanks for posting, the B&W of the 3 was my favourite 👍

I can’t wait for the summer with it now. I was mostly just trying to get my head around the camera.

Interesting video, I prefer the black and white images. 12mp is plenty, back in the early 2000s I was transitioning from film to digital with the Canon 1Ds which had 11mp. I made my living with that camera for a couple of years.
The first job I did with the 1Ds was for a client in Japan for a press release, he was aware that I had concerns about quality from my new camera but he only needed small images. Later he sent me a pic of his office with A2 prints from the files, I stopped worrying about megapixels then.

12Mpx in reality is more than enough for what I do. The B&W worked well I thought, and that’s the look I like for infrared. I can’t wait for the summer to get stuck in with it now.

Yeah it was more just to get to know the camera. I can’t wait for the summer months now to use it properly.

I left Hull for Australia almost 40 years ago. Was this video taken at Salted? I've been a subscriber for some time.

I would have a look at my E-M1 Mark ii for landscape stuff. Nicely priced used and really quite capable. This PEN camera I used here isn’t the best for landscapes.

@daronbranston9757 The Mark ii has a much improved feature set but it you just want to take photos the Mark i would be just fine.
