"Patience isn't a virtue that I was born with." - It's so much fun just listening to you while learning new things I have never understood before (like live composite). Thank you so much for delivering insight in so many ways.
Many thanks for taking the time to do this video. Great location, indeed. I still have my Olympus OM-1N and OM-3 from the 70s and I am a Panasonic G9 and GX80 user. The MFT format and advantages are simply great. Long life to Micro Four Thirds and more lens exchange between the companies!
I agree. I switched from Fujifilm to Olympus M43 and have no regrets. The image quality was slightly better but in exchange you get SO many cool computational features that other manufacturers don't care about. Plus the lenses are tiny - and cheap when buying used!
Ditched the two major brands, investing in a few OM-1 II's with 12-100 & 150-400 pro lenses. We use photography to promote tourism, so street photography, landscapes, wildlife, some astro, portraits, etc.
I'm with you. I jumped into Fuji with an X-H2 when I finally came back into photography a couple of months back, but now have an OM-1.2 sat alongside it desperately trying to dethrone it. I have to say, it's doing a sterling job. The main problem is, I think, is that people can't see past the MFT sensor. As it's small, they don't think it's up to the task, which, as we can see from @ChrisBaitson and other photographers, just isn't the case.
Have fun with that 12-45, it's an incredible lens! Pair that with the 40-150 f4 pro and a fast prime of your favorite focal length you'll be set for almost anything.
I’ve also just bought the same kit. Came from Nikon ZF, great camera but a brick. The OM-5 does everything I want it to do and more. Extremely pleased with it.
I am a Nikon guy and just bought an Olympus E500 just to play with, (well it was dirt cheap) I must admit I can’t stop using it !! Going to up my Olympus collection for sure
A fantastic video - makes me want to go out and take photos straight away! Never thought about using live composite this way! I really enjoy your videos - there's so much life and enthusiasm in them; great to watch! 🙂🙂
Thanks dude... the OG OM-5 inspired me most in 2012 and the whole M43 in general has been a love affair that will never die... I never paid too much attention to this feature so it's great to see it through new eyes in fun creative ways... love it, keep at it, this is what is pure and creative. Cheers man!
Really interesting and entertaining Chris, never thought of using this feature in the way you demonstrated. I’ll give it a go, interesting results. Top work, look forward to the next instalment 👍
Some nice shots there and a very useful video, never used live composite or live time on my em10 mark 3, not really understanding them I just left them alone, after your video it reminds me of how you can do long exposures on smart phones, which I have been enjoying doing, but I agree certain situations suit this technology more than others, I’m interested now, I shall have to have a go with Livecomp next time I’m out somewhere it would work well with.
I’d agree, it’s very similar to how smart phones work, or perhaps more like how star trail photos are typically done, only it’s in camera and less faffing about when you get home and I’m all for less faff!
Nice one Chris ... never used Live Comp as you've demonstrated .... will definitely give it a go .... thinking about it could work really well in pools of water at the base of waterfalls to exaggerate the movement swirls, if you follow what I mean ?
Great pics and video as usual. It's interesting, and very generous, that so many professional photographers want to pass on their skills to others. But I think today's lesson is to wear waterproof shoes.
Thanks for this video Chris. I have just bought the EM1 Mkii after watching another 'live comp' of yours so a new series is just at the right time for me.
Great vid I have an Oly EM10 mark 2 and have not really understood Live comp until now. One question when I view the shot the info has the time of the pre- set ie 1.3, 1.6, 2, 2.5 etc. Seems a little strange to me, i know I have the total time from taking the shot. I like that you can see the image building on your screen and I can stop the shot at my leisure. Please make more of these tutorial type vids they are great.
Me with OM-1 and 300mm f4 lens: "I have unparalleled image stabilisation! Tripod? Don't make me laugh!" Me after watching one Chris Baitson video: "... must get a tripod..."
thanks chris, until now i did'nt even knew about livecomp mode of my E-M10 Mk II and stacked manually taken photographs together... could have had it so much easier 😀
I don't do video...but ...For me M43 will get better when Panasonic and OM resume their "rangefinder style" bodies that they both seem to have thrown by the wayside...Cheers
Some very cool examples 😁I think that for those images the ND digital filter would be very useful (adds photos with the consequent expansion of the dynamic range and noise reduction). But I think it is present from the EM1 Mark III model (it is a mode that I constantly use on my OM1 MarkII)😅
@@benejpocock 👏👏👏I think high resolution shooting with 14bit is another gift. Not to mention the ND 128 filter, that is, 128 stacked photos, with the consequent expansion of dynamic range and color fidelity...
Just don't use "fast" exposures below one seconds, unless for very short times. 1) they will drain the battery out 2) [apparently] they will cause the banding you see at 6:14. It is perfectly possible to shoot star trails with no banding whatever at reasonable speeds of 1/2 minute / one minute. Never seen any banding myself, shot dozens of live composite images day or night.
Nice video, but why you always use your l brackets the opposite way? I've also seen you use it on the Sony the same way. That piece of aluminum on the grip side doesn't look very comfortable. 😅
Actually, I somewhat disagree with live composite shots looking bad with clouds. I found this out by accident when I took star trails photo and it was cloudy. The effect came out real cool and looks like "warp drive". Give it a try. I would share a photo, but my comments with links are getting deleted.
Yes. I still wish that OM System would turn be smarter, and focus heavily to E-M10 and E-M5 size bodies. The E-M1 that Olympus made in 2013 was perfect size. The additional grip was very comfortable (once you realize how to keep your pinky below) in multiple different angles, but it wasn't so pocketable like the E-M5 (2012 model) was. The E-M10 is jewery. Very nice with the EVF. But my personal favorite is the E-M10 Mk2, that has the taller and well curled knobs. That is perfect sized tiny SLR body. I have E-M1 II as my primary camera, but it is big, and the side swiving display is pure annoyance for every single time using that camera. Totally unsuitable for photography and videography. Who ever wants those, are stupid. As that hinge design is legacy from Canon when they couldn't make a 90's displays tilt by any other means. OM System true jewel anymore is really the E-PL line. And even those are growing larger and larger. And they should really get back to down, like E-PM2 or GM1. That is where the normal camera body should be. And then keep E-M5 size body for professionals with all bells and whistless imaginable.
I have been using Olympus bodies since the original OMD. I did upgrade the OM systems last version. Frankly, I am very disappointed in OM systems all the things you mentioned while some have been improved. Our features that Olympus created there is nothing new. Nothing to get excited about if OM systems wants me to get the next version of the camera they have to get me excited about them again Right now, I am planning on buying the Panasonic G9. It has far more advanced video features and I think they have caught up with OM systems and surpass them. I guess I will find out. I have a good selection of Olympus lenses and my current body does everything I want I was very disappointed with their rebranded lens. That was double the price of the full amount version with only minimal changes. Olympus always made excellent glass. I don’t understand what this is outsourcing

I use live comp for star trails and it works fantastic! I have taken photos that are over an hour to 2 hours long making a really dramatic effect.
I’ve never actually done star trails with it, I’ll have to try it and see how the results turn out.
I need to grab a G9 and an GX80, I’ve heard good things about both of them cameras.
Love my MFT gear. Fun, capable, and portable.
The Olympus m4/3 systems are ridiculously underrated. Easily as good as Fuji in my opinion.
I completely agree Katy, which is why I’m trying to highlight them to people on this channel. Thanks for watching.
I agree. I switched from Fujifilm to Olympus M43 and have no regrets. The image quality was slightly better but in exchange you get SO many cool computational features that other manufacturers don't care about. Plus the lenses are tiny - and cheap when buying used!
You can do this on the Ricoh gr3

Thank you very much! It took a long time to get comfortable acting an idiot in front of a camera 🤣
Live comp is great for fireworks!
Never considered that actually, I’ll have a go when the time comes and film it!
The GH7 rocks. MFT is an exciting format with treasures from both major manufacturers. Love my Olympus lenses on my Lumix bodies.

Get yourself down to Spurn and have a go like I did! Will have to meet up at some point if your game.

I had an old LUMIX GX7 and really liked the rangefinder style to it, as well as the tilting EVF.

I've just picked up an OM-1.2 and have to say the computational features, especially the GradND filter, is an absolute winner.

@@salgado_fotos Totally agree. I’ve only had it a week though so still very much in discovery mode!

Computational photography is the future and micro four thirds is the perfect system for that
Hi Chris can I know which brand of tripod ,L bracket &
Nd filter use ? You should start a course for m4/3 Step by step teaching how to photograph?
Livecomp is obscure enough that other manufacturers didn’t steal it yet.
They will sadly copy at some point.
Ricoh GR has had it for quite some time
Mono lobster pot = brilliant.
I must go down to the sea and sky, I left NY shoes and socks there, I wonder if they're dry😢😢
Why aren't you using the nd filter in camera instead of external nd?
Because the camera doesn’t have an ND filter inside of it.
Видимо при использовании live-composite нельзя использовать встроенный nd-фильтр.
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto oh you are not shooting with the OM1 m1 or 2

Just a generic Amazon one. There’s a link on my storefront from my links section.

what is the filter system you are working ?
That’s a K&F Square Pro system.
