Easy lined drawstring bag sewing tutorial. Use them as eco-friendly reusable gift bags, travel bags, project bags, and more. You can't make just one! They're addicting, fast to make and a great stash buster! These bags are fat-quarter friendly, they only use three fat quarters (plus twill or fabric for the ties), so even if your stash is small, you can make these bags! - Навчання та стиль
I have been sewing for years (since I was 8 years old and I'm 74) and I wanted to say how detailed and specific this tutorial is. If someone has never made anything like this these instructions are so detailed and easy to follow anyone at most any age will be able to make this bag. Jeni Baker you are a wonderful speaker and convey your message better than most of the tutorials on You Tube. I have made many bags but just had to listen to the whole thing because you are fantastic at what you do. Keep up the good work.
Jeni this tutorial was Super Duper!! We did it at our monthly Church Craft Day! It was really fun!! Thank You!!!
Thank you! I made 10 bags for wrapping gifts for my kids tonight. This video was so quick and easy to understand. I will be making more bags after Christmas, also for birthdays!
I’ve watched hundreds of these video tutorials. This is probably the best one I’ve seen. The instructions are very clear and the work turns out beautifully because of your method. Thank you!
I’ve never seen a lined bag sewn together like this, but it makes so much sense! Thank you.
I'm so glad!
I watched this tutorial with my grand-daughter who is 8, in preparation for sewing a bag for her journal and another for her tarot cards and I will probably make a bag for my DnD dice. This was really easy to understand and we are looking forward to following these instructions. Thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that!!
This was the first thing I made with my first sewing machine and I’m in love! I’m definitely going to be making them for friends and I’m going to try a couple of reversible bags too!
Hi Jeni, This was remarkable. You didn't miss a step, can't wait to get started. I have visions of drawstring bags dancing in my head. Thank you so much for this tutorial. (and it wasn't too long.)
Thank you Jeni! This was fantastic. I bought your bag patterns but haven't made them yet because I'm a visual learner. Now I see how easy it is. It takes a lot of time and talent to put together this type of tutorial - so please know that your generosity and efforts are greatly appreciated!
I'm so glad to hear that!
Do you have pattern supplies list & instructions if so how do I access & a donation to your site will be made by me. Thank you for your tutorials.
This is my favorite bag tutorial, I've been using it since you put it out. I hadn't made a bag in almost a year and it took forever to find this video but as always totally worth it just in the time/energy/frustration saved by using this method.
This was a very simple and fantastic pattern! Love the result
You are a great teacher! Very through and so many tips! You make me smile! Thank you!💝
This video is sooooooo PERFECT! EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you so very much for the clear, concise directions and explanations! I’ve probably watched 20 different videos on lined bags and this is LITERALLY the ONLY one that makes perfect sense! Thanks again for your time and the effort you put forth to share this information! I’m super excited to make this now!
This video is just the right speed. As a person new to sewing, I very much appreciate all the detailed explanation. This video is not too long and is much needed. Thanks
I'm so glad!
Wow! Your instructions are cristal clear. Thank you Jeni.💚🤗
Thank you, this is the sort of brilliant tutorial I've been searching for!

I will definitely make some of these! You’re a great teacher and I appreciate your time and making the tutorial for all of us!
Jeni I stitched along with you and my bag is perfect. I did cheat on the drawstring with bias tape and it’s beautiful! Very nice lesson, thank you.
I really like your patterns and your instructions. So easy to follow and understand. Great job!
Excellent tutorial Jen! Thank you! I’ve made a large one for a quilt I gifted to my MIL in 1999, and haven’t done one since. It’s an excellent way to present a quilt and for someone to store it vs in a plastic bag!
Sure thing! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree, a great way to gift a quilt!
Great tutorial! Thank you so much for showing us how to make these nice bags. Everything was so precise! Thanks for a very good tutorial! 🥰

Hooray, I'm so glad to hear that!
What a wonderful tutorial! I am so happy with the bag I made! Directions are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I cut out four bags and have finished two. I'll finish the other two tomorrow! I added a lightweight interfacing on the main body of the bag, changed the turning gap to the side and used a new ruler to cut the boxed corners before sewing. I also learned to wait until the bag is finished before closing the gap!
Thank you for this tutorial. Was super easy to follow and I've just made 2!!
Awesome!!
Excellent tutorial and your bag is so pretty! Love the contrasting colors!
Thanks so much!
Beautiful! I can’t wait to try this! Your instructions are really clear and helpful 😊

Thank you 😊 this has been very helpful.
I'm glad!
you are a great teacher! thanks so much!
You're very welcome!
I have made a few drawstring bags in the past, albeit I've done them the hard way. The way you lined up your pieces was so much easier than the way I made mine. Thanks for the great pattern, I'm sure that I will use it again, and again.
nice😅
I made this today with 13”x13” squares and added an interior pocket. Your tutorial is fantastic! I really like how mine turned out. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Awesome!

I made a project bag size today. Will make more for a bunch of projects and gifts!
Awesome!
Really nice detailed tutorial. These are assembled a little differently then the ones I've made before. I like this way better!
Great tutorial for beginners.
I'm glad!
Thanks!
Thank you for showing us a simpler way how to make these bags. You should have strong the straps so they don't look awkward
Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the video.❤
Thanks ❤
33:00 that masking tape tip for both sides of the channel is smart! 💝
thank you :))

This is the first video I watched (and I've watched lots) that don't have the cutting measurements on the screen!
If I had not found this tutorial I would have taken a crappy bag a “ seamstress “ sewed for me.
I will definitely sew my draw string purse for my costume. On the road now
But I will post when I make it!
Thank you!
This really is a fantastic video. I had no trouble following along. Stopped the video at intervals and did each step and the bag turned out beautifully though three of the four gussets got mismatched and I didn’t get the accent pieces properly matched. My modifications included making a bigger bag and to use my embroidery machine to add the gift recipient's name.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I bet that's beautiful with the embroidery!!
@@jenib320 Don't see a way to post or send you a picture but yes, it was quite lovely. I’ve always been stumped on how to make a lined bag because of the outside-inside wrongside-out confusion [so I’ve stuck to zipper bags that I’ve got a go-to pattern for] but your design has NONE of that.
Thank you so much for this level of detail! Most tutorials don’t explain things it’s hard for beginners to figure out! Also, what ruler sizes are you using? I love your blog, it’s so helpful for organisation tips.
My most used ruler sizes are 6.5"x24, 12.5" square and 6.5" square!
I am saving this video. I am so excited that I came across this. I am just getting into sewing and must say this is the best tutorial I’ve seen. You take the time to explain everything and I have never seen where you sew all pieces together at the beginning. Thank you for sharing. Very helpful.
Cool
Love idea, but not sure on the raw edges in the drawstring area so I think I would zig zag the edges in them from the start. Thanks
Thank you so much for this video. So we’ll done. I need to make a lined drawstring bag for something at my church. I need to put the drawstring at the top without the “ruffle” at the top. So, I’m going to have to figure it out. Again. Great video! I’ve saved it. I can’t find the written directions though. ???
Sure thing! The written instructions are linked in the description of the video!
This was really great! Just one question. How do you square up the edge before you start cutting? For some reason my Cuts don’t come out even and it makes me crazy.
I choose a reference edge to start from (usually the selvedge) and trim up the other sides based off that edge. It definitely takes some practice!
Great tutorial 😃. What is the name / fabric line of your adorable flower print in this tutorial?? So pretty. Thank you.
The exterior flower print is from the collection Strawberry Fields by Rifle Paper Co for Cotton & Steel.
You might find a "center-finding ruler" helpful when constructing the casing. Much more quick and easier. If not sold at Joann's try Home Depot.
I'll look into that!
❤❤❤
When did you sew the top edge? Only noticed when you boxed the corners. Before that you said to just sew three sides together??
The fourth edge was sewn together in the first sewing step (when all the pieces are sewn into one long strip).
I suppose this method is only good if our seams are all the same size? As a beginner I find it difficult to have all the seams the same width.. I use a guide but I still do have my hiccups :/
Nice. I would like my bag 1 color on outside
I have a tutorial for that here: www.incolororder.com/2017/04/easy-going-lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html
Great bag with excellent instructions. My only query is why does one need to buy pattern when you give the measurements in the tutorial.
Thanks! The paid for pattern has 7 additional sizes as well as instructions for making your own custom size bag.
Doesn't the hole opening fray because it is a raw edge?
I love that. It's my favorite style, both lined and with the extra ruffle at top. The only thing that bothered me was trying to figure out whether the tie openings were finished or raw. I read over the tutorial and watched the video and was unable to determine that.
The openings are raw, but I haven't had any trouble with fraying in the ten years I've been making these bags. You're welcome to serger or zig-zag over the edges of the accent piece before sewing if you're worried about it though!
Well, update I made my purse with your tutorial but I don’t know how to post it here
Franst der Tunnelzug vom Drawstring nicht aus das ist ja nicht umnäht wenn ständig die Kordel gezogen wird
How do we avoid baggy linings?
I don't tend to have much trouble with baggy linings with this bag!
Where's the link?
The link to the tutorial is in the video description, here it is: www.incolororder.com/2011/10/lined-drawstring-bag-tutorial.html
What are the dimensions of the finished bag
The finished bag is approx. 10" tall, 7" wide, 3" deep
Kebanyakan ngomong...
Too slow moving. Cute bag though!
The video is meant to be comprehensive, you're welcome to refer to the tutorial instead if that's more your speed.
Very, very long.
Too long for nothing
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
