  • Episode 21/64 - In this video I use a SharkBite fitting to easily replace an outdoor faucet. This video also shows how to access plumbing that is inside the wall. I replace my hose bib style faucet with a frost proof sillcock type faucet. I also use a slip on fitting for a "no glue", "no solder", super simple solution.

    Thank you for this! The pipe in my wall potentially busted during the freeze due to the outdoor spigot being frozen before I could drain it. Ive never done something like this and knew a lot would go into it. This video was very informative and gave me the confidence to attempt it on my own, thank you for not sparing any details as there is a lot that goes into homeowning and teaching someone should be equally as informational!

    That plywood looked like every project I try. Simple gets complicated.
    I probably would have skipped the shutoff valve and gotten someone in the house complaining about not having water to help me for the 15 minutes it would have taken to make a single cut in the copper fit the length needed for the Sharkbite.
    I currently (if two years counts as "currently") have the same problem with the same spacing down to the water heater, garage, gas line and laundry room.
    Based upon your video, I think I'll go in behind the dryer instead of by the water heater.

      I will throw in that, for me, repairs to the garage drywall don't have to be as "perfect" as in the laundry room.

      @@LifeHappensLetsFixIt I figure the dryer will be in front of the access panel, and I'd prefer avoid cutting both the plywood and the drywall.
      My water heater is also closer to the wall making for more gymnastics.
      Sadly, I'll replace my mother's front spigot before I get to mine. Since she's 81, I'm not expecting her to be of much help.
      Thanks for the video!

    You didn't deburr your copper pipes, the Sharkbite o-rings will get damaged.

    I learned a lot here. I need an oscillating saw. Did you put an access panel on the wall for the valve, or just restore the drywall? It looked like the valve handle stuck out pretty far in the off position. I think I would rotate the valve 90 deg so the handle is perpendicular.

      Since it's in the garage I just left it open. My plan is to put a hinged door to cover the hole. Good idea on valve orientation.

    Just a short advice: make your videos short and sweet and to the point. If you have a lot to say, make a new video about it. New subject, new video. 5 videos that are 10 minutes long is better than 1 that is 50 minutes long. Because people have busy lives and there are tons of videos. Why watching a 1 hour video when I can find what I need in shorter videos? You do have knowledge and people would love to hear it, but this is not a school video. I mean, we must not sit here and watch it. It's a video for adults and they are very busy. So, keep it short, to the point and hopefully you will have more views, more likes and more subscribers.

      Thank you for the feedback. I have experimented with both types of videos, but I haven't tried making two versions of the same video yet.

      This is UA-cam not Tiktok, why make a multiple videos for this? You're assuming that everyone has the attention span of a toddler. Butt at the same time think it's better for them to find the 10 videos for this one issue?? This a home repair for an issue that can easily cost thousands if it's a busted pipe. Owning a home is not cheap, and repairs to it can be costly and tedious and there is a lot to consider. Homeowners can appreciate a long detailed video that goes over everything surrounding a repair. And helps them to be informed because believe it or not, not everyone has the same home type or conditions!

      @@LifeHappensLetsFixIt yeah the shark bite connections in under ground make me wonder. For my instance I am putting this on my pump house which is a glorified shed. So this connection won’t be hidden.

    I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical when you couldn't replace a handle whether you would be able to replace the faucet assembly without destroying your house.

    I had an exact same repair done today, what should be the ideal cost for this ? Labor and parts?

    • @leeb.7188
      @leeb.7188 2 роки тому

      Depends on where you live. Costs vary dramatically depending on your state and region.

    • @LifeHappensLetsFixIt
      @LifeHappensLetsFixIt  2 роки тому

      It's very hard to say. As @Lee B states, where you live matters, but the price will also vary depending on the skill, and reliability of the person you hire. Remember, "you get what you pay for" is a true statement. However, just because you pick the higher priced estimate doesn't guarantee a good job either. My recommendation is to post your issue on a community app like NextDoor. The best recommendations will come from other people in your area that have actually used the provider.
