Ravens are incredible intelligent, perhaps the most intelligent creatures besides humans. Also images of Ravens were often used as sign of Royalty Or Nobility during human history. So you "Falconry and Me" are indeed very lucky to have this awesome Raven !
I discovered ravens when I was a kid, a man had a pet raven near my house, everytime I was going to school or coming back from it when I was passing in front of the man's house the raven was talking to me. He started saying hello and a bunch of other things (jokes and other sentences, like "what's your name?"), imagine a 9 year old finding out animals can talk. I remember that raven as yesterday.
I work in remote areas where there is little no farming and the wild ravens are less weary of people so they get quite close. I've observed them being playful as well as burying their food and making false caches to fool other ravens. They've also worked out how to open zippers on backpacks and steal the lunches of unwary workers. They're array of vocalizations makes it obvious even to the untrained observer that ravens have their own language. When you watch them soar on an updraft they seem to be doing it as much for enjoyment then merely searching for food. They are more like us than most people would give them credit for. Boop boop.

When I was building my last airplane, a raven came to observe almost daily. He became quite friendly, and ALWAYS found a way to get to my cookies! For two years that bird watched daily, and we became great friends - he would land lightly on my shoulder and "talk" to me with almost human sounds. Great bird, very smart.
2 stories here: 1. My father has a flight school at an airfield, where also lots of ravens have their homes. I dont know why, but he told me a story that the local forester / hunter had to "remove" some of them. Maybe there where to many?! The first time he shot one. The second time, when he stopped his car - the moment they saw the gun barrel looking out of the window of the car just for two centimeters, they where all gone. From then on I never got one more, because they recognized him. 2. I live in Berlin in a building next to a plaza. On this plaza we have two crows that live here. I couldnt belive my eye when I understood their behavior for the first time. Every morning plenty of workers cross this plaza to catch their trains or whatever. There is a bakery on the way for some of them, where they get a sandwich and a coffee. The moment the bakery opens (employee opens the door), the crows sit about 10m away elevated in a flagpole. They wait till someone with a brown bag comes out again. Then they follow him around the plaza until he throws away the brown paper bag into the trashcan. Then it's their time. They fly to the trashcan and pick the paper bag out of the trash again and pick up the grains and crumbs. They even use small sticks to get them. It's amazing to watch...

Fable is so lovely ^^ Watching this reminded me of a jackdaw (Corvus monedula variety) I had as a child. He was just a baby when I rescued him from a cat. He had a dameged wing and we let him live in a cage untill he was healed. When we finaly released him he came back knocking on the window to come back in again. For two years he followed me everywhere, even to school waiting on the roof. Sleeping in his cage at night and flying free during the day. He was such a smart bird and he always tried to mimic our behaviours ^^ Towards the end he started to stay outside during night. One time he was away for 6 days and we thought that he had dissapeard. On the 7:th day he returned togheter with another jackdaw, jumped up on my shoulder, back to the other bird and after that we never saw him again. His name was Edward and I will always remeber him fondly. Love to you and Fable from Sweden

When l was young, my dad brought home a Myna Bird. It was legal at that time. He was so smart! He'd learn a new person's exact voice within days! Only one person could clean his cage as he would grab the skin on your hand and twist it like the devil! Dang that hurt! I believe they are the best speaking bird, followed closely by African Gray Parrots. Birds are visual & that is how they identify their humans. Not scent or sound. My first hand raised hand fed lovebird identified with my dark manicure l learned the hard way. The only other people who could handle her also had dark colored nail polish. I took a break from my manicure one day to play with her. She yelled at me and bit me HARD! It felt like 100 times. I was ready to open the patio door and set her free! (Not really but Jeeze!) Then I recalled a book I finally found written in this century for hand raised & fed parrots which said birds are "visual". Aha! I quickly polished my nails and my lover girl was back! She had no idea who I was without the dark nail polish. When friends visited who wanted to handle her, l kept a set of Lee's press on red nails for them to stick on She would go to anyone! Beware if anyone else tried to handle her. A black friend wanted to handle her one day. I told him I had no idea how she would respond & she could easily draw blood. He was brave, likely thinking how could this tiny bird hurt me? 🤭 Turns out he was immediately accepted. She had the best time grooming his hair, trying to straighten every curl! I'm a blonde, so this was a learning experience for me too! Whenever I talked to parrots at pet shops who were donated as their owners had died, l could tell what their prior owners looked like. Light hair & glasses, if they accepted me. I've never found an African gray parrot that would let me handle them, even younger birds. I always tried, but always was bitten! Amazons are another breed that unless I looked like their former human, l was always bitten.
@@cinderella3414 i had a myna bird too when i was younger. That bird sang happy birthday a million different ways, honked like the cars outside, said many words, and barked back at the dogs! She was awesome.
Fable i's absolutely gorgeous. And yes, ravens are a little like cats in some of their behaviours. Have you ever read the book 'The Ravenmaster ' by Christopher Skaife who is the Ravenmaster at the Tower of London? It is clear that ravens are blessed with not only high intelligence but also a sense of humour. Sadly, living in the middle of Bristol I don't see such magnificent birds very often but I do see plenty of magpies which, also corvids, are clever birds.
Personally, I believe most intelligent animals are emotional beings, a lot like us. They not only feel love, but they also show love and recognize when you express love. Clearly, you love Fable and Fable loves you. Falconry was, at one time, ubiquitous in the UK. Most people in the UK are oblivious to this. In fact, I believe it was common for a pub to have an area set aside for a patron's falcons. Times have changed. It's nice to see there are people keeping this ancient hobby alive in the modern world. Kings and commoners engaged in falconry, which meant it breached the class divide. I like that.

A long time ago, in the open countryside which then surounded the outskirts of the small, Heavily Industrialised town in Lancashire famous for its Layland Motors, stood a pub. In the pubs garden were a number of bird cages. The star was a large, amiable Vulture. The landlord made a good income selling small pork pies to customers who typically fed most of their pie to the highly attentive Vulture. It was so well fed on small pork pies for so long it has to be doubted it could ever have climbed back into the air.
@@tmd6625 all animals have those capabilities to an extent. I can see what you are saying but the gay and hippie way you phrased it suggests that some animals don't. If they can be scared then they probably feel comfort as well. As gay as you are trying to be, you are the modern day equivalent of a person from the 1800's saying EDIT (we need human rights because we are special and) only humans have emotions and animals are pretty much machines. fml can't wait till the lay people finally understand that even fucking trees also feel pain so all this hippie bs about how humans and dolphins and whales and elephants and dogs and cats and now birds apparently are magical "emotional being(s)" can be put to rest.
@@tmd6625 Ravens and Magpies are actually 2 of the very very few beings that we know to be fully sentient like humans (express emotion, are conscious of themselves, understand the notion of death, mourn their dead, etc.) which is even more exciting!!
This reminds me a wolf I came to fancy. As a senior in high school I would drive to school in my car. One day I took a different way to school which went right along a small local zoo. The road past the zoo was about a block long and was right next to the wolf area. As I drove past the wolfs I noticed one keeping pace with me as he ran through the woods. I was not going very fast as this was a small back road. I didn't think anything about it until the next time I went that way a couple of days later. There was this wolf again if I sped up so did he if I slowed so did he. I thought that's pretty cool the wolfs want to do that. But I noticed this was the only wolf that would do it the others seemed very uninterested. I found out that this wolf would also do this on my way home going the other way. I did this the whole school year and even after it was like seeing a friend each time. He never missed a day to run along side me. I thought he probably does this for lots of cars but found as my friends and I would drive by in their cars, there was never a wolf at the fence to run with us. Many days he would be waiting at the corner of the fence for me as he must of heard me coming. One day I was at the bottom of the hill waiting for him to come out and run but no wolf. So I revved my engine up and started to go and as I got a third of the way by, hear he comes sprinting out of the woods. He seemed to like the sound of my car as it was loud, It was a 1970 Chevelle SS. The only thing I can think of why he did it was that it was loud, I don't know but it was some very fond memories.
It’s so crazy that she goes from having this super glossy, slick looking head one second, to a super fuzzy, soft looking head the next. I love the fuzz head, personally. 10/10 would give all the Fable all of the pets.
I always talk to ravens and observe their reactions when they sit somewhere nearby because I know how intelligent they are. :D My boyfriend always laughs at me. 😂 But they are so fascinating!
I never knew ravens could talk until I visited an aviary. There was a raven there who had been taught a passage from Shakespeare. Amazing creatures !!! Blessings.😊🙏

Your experience and advice with Fable precisely matches mine raising my first Siberian Husky. Positive reinforcement *is the only thing that works*, if I get frustrated or disappointed or upset he completely ignores me. Affection is on his terms: if I want snuggle puppy's, he'll demand 1-on-1 physical play, tug-of-war, and his favorite snacks before he'll sit & snuggle, and even then he's only going to snuggle until he gets bored. Most exhausting and rewarding creature I've ever raised. Thank you for sharing Fable with us! I've only ever seen a captive Raven once, rescued around age 5-6 years and unable to be released after rehab. He was loved, but resided at a small nature center and certainly didn't have the quality of life your Fable does!
We had a wild born crow (named Blackie) as a member of our family for just over 10 years. It had detached retinas after hitting a car or truck and I found it on the way home from work. It never spoke as crows don't seem to mimic but instead would perform very complex mimes to ask for something backed up by crow language sounds, including cooing like a dove when happy, "Wah Wharll" meant food and "Wharll" meant food. Other crow calls we couldn't figure out as we couldn't figure out what some of the mimes were about. You could sense Blackie's frustration as he / she repeated the mime yet again for the "stupid humans". Blackie's relationship with us was that we were his / her servants. Blackie still interacted with other members of her crow clan and would share food with them. Some became tame enough to land in the garden so long as Blackie had the humans under control. One was very keen to learn how Blackie had control over us and would hop around behind me if I was carrying Blackie. Others would sit on the roof or trees and study us with interest. We learnt a few crow alarm calls such as the one for buzzard, the different one for a raven, another for fox, another for cat over the years. If the local crows give the alarm for a buzzard we still look around for it. Blackie also had a discerning palate (fussy eater) and would only eat cooked meat, roast potatoes, cheese, macaroni, custard cream biscuits (pulling them apart and eating them in parts like some people do). Blackie's vocabulary extended enough for us to ask menu options and Blackie to signal when the preferred option was given. Blackie also discovered that filling his / her water bowl with some of the daytime chocolate hoops snacks and then marinating a piece of cooked pork in it for an hour or so, made the cooked pork taste different. This became a thing to do and Blackie started experimenting with other cooked meats (chicken, lamb, etc.). Blackie died in 2015 after being attacked by a terrier which managed to break into the garden..

Hi! Music teacher here! Question for you: When you were singing and Fable was singing back (around 8:53) Fable was singing the same notes you sang. You started on an A, and were basically singing the first 5 notes of an A-major scale, and Fable was right there with you. I'm curious-- if you started on a different pitch (somewhat higher, or somewhat lower), would she sing those pitches with you, or would she just default to the A-scale you sang today? I notice her "boop boops" are always the same "notes," whenever she sings/says them. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, no stress!) You have a lovely voice, by the way. :-)
Omg so true! I did notice that they were very in tune with one another & the notes matched perfectly. It was pretty darn awesome to watch/hear. I’d be interested in seeing this little “study” done. 🤗
I don’t know anything about musical notes, but goin by the way she mimicks her human, I’m goin to say she would always sing in the same “pitch” whenever it’s posed to her, only an experiment would prove -either way, but that is an interesting question!!
I don't know if that goes for ravens as well, but I heard that for the "regular" singing birds in our gardens singing their "song" in a different scale is like a whole different song I think it was in an episode of Vox's Netflix series _Explained_
Cool question. I think birds have perfect pitch and, like humans with perfect pitch, scales on a different pitch would sound like totally different scales to them. That’s just my guess though.

Dinky Me , my friend , who also has birds ( exotic not ravens) and also has a home TENS machine for a knee problem. I go get treatments for my back and her birds will come and perch on me within the electromagnetic field. Including one bird who likes no one but her and usually i can’t get near but he’s the first one to come to me when I’m on the machine. I’m thinking they must be very attuned to vibrations

Probably won't happen - she thinks she's mated to a human. My friend has a parrot that she nursed back to health, it had a broken wing. Pepper thinks A is her mate. Does bird flirty things, and laughs when A laughs.
This has happened. Not with Ravens as they (quite rightly) aren't kept as pets but escaped pet parrots have integrated with wild flocks in Australia and the result really has been wild parrots wandering around talking human.

Got tuned into these birds a year ago when I noticed around 20 of them having a fit in a neighbors tree, I walked over to the tree to see what was happening to find one was dead under the tree, impressive intelligence.
@@totallyjonesin I've read that when Ravens seem to be having a funeral for another dead raven, they're most likely trying to determine cause of death and if there is a threat to them.
@@Krista2882 that is true, but they also are able to understand the basic concept of "our friend isn't going to wake up anymore". It isn't as complex as human funerals, since they don't recognize anything spiritual, but they can still feel sad over loss. A lot of animals do
Hi from Australia. Im a new fan of Fable and urself! You inspire me to be like u one day! Im a victim of domestic violence and have been struggling a great deal. I spend lots of time in my garden, and 2 months ago i noticed this beautiful crow.. after doing my homework, i came to learn that it was a raven and i fell in love. With in that short period of time, we have built a strong an trusting relationship and he helped me cope with my anxity and trauma. He saved my life. When he calls, he can always count on me.. he brought his family and friends and i now look after them and the magpies and baby cookaburras too. Everyone in my family and community think im crazy and say ravens are bad luck which upsets me a great deal! To my surprise one late arvo after feeding him he left behind a gift on his fav food bowl.. his fav hunting stick with a ring around it. ITS THE SWEETEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE FOR ME. He even follows me everywhere i go locally in my car haha. Do u have any tips or advice on how i could strengthen my relationship with the raven crow whose in my suburb. When im sad or overwhelmed, all i want is for him to be there and to t stroke his head.. is this possible? He bows to me, ruffles his feathers, mimics me, gets close to where i can almost touch him but i never want to scare him.away cos ive worked.soooo hard on building trust with him..

We're lucky enough to have wild ravens in the huge trees by our garden and we hear a lot from them! They're so noisy but I think it's a treat to have them and hear them. We actually don't see them very often so catching a glimpse is quite special. To see Fable so close up, see how beautiful she is and so amazingly intelligent is absolutely amazing! A real pleasure! Just amazing... I'm totally jealous, I've been feeding a Raven at work for two years now, I sit in my car at lunch and eat my butties, and this one raven was a little more plucky than others and got close enough to take food I threw. Over time he/she has got more confident and now spots my car when I arrive and will come and sit on the roof of the car next to me, literally a meter away. It'll "caw caw" if I ignore it and I swear it know the word "sandwich". I can put food on the roof of my car above my head and it'll fly and land inches above me. I feel so privileged to have got this close, I know this, cause if anyone walks within 30 meters of us, it'll fly away. I was also amazed that after been away from work for two months over Christmas, the 1st day I returned & pulled up in the car park, it was there within 2 mins of me arriving. It obviously knows my car!.. My dream if at all possible is to be involved is something like yourself, your truly blessed. xx
It amazing to watch Fables thought process as she watches you put the food and disks back. Especially around minute 2 when she beaks you, it is almost like she is shooing you away saying “GO ! I can do this by myself”. You are so lucky to be able to observe and interact with Fable and your other birds. How wonderful it must be to spend time with them. I truly am in awe. It has always been a dream of mine to have birds allow me into their world, to sit, observe, and learn from them. So glad I found your channel !
Memories! My pal from school had one that he found abandoned in Cabazon one summer vacation. He hand fed him, his name was Jughead, tiny bits of raw hamburger. Jughead would imitate the dog, the phone ringing and Earl's mom yelling at Niel to answer the phone, he'd yell at Earl to get up, get out of bed you lazy....etc. He was certainly a character.
Fable can sing! 🎼. She is so precious! When my husband and I went to Juneau, Alaska, we were walking around and exploring places for the day, we walked down by a long walk way to get to a restaurant that was recommended to us by a local. I saw several Ravens (they’re huge and it was kind of scary! Lol), they were just standing as if waiting to be fed by us tourists but it was like they were communicating with each other. A few were quiet but they just were not afraid to fly away like most birds do when someone is too close. I took a picture of them, I have a lot of pictures I took of Eagles, also. I took a picture close up in this shelter with a screen so it still can look around, the Eagle couldn’t fly anymore but it was being well taken care of and fed. The Eagle was just sitting but facing the wall. I made a quick click sound with my tongue and the Eagle turn it’s head sideways to look at me and I took a picture (no flash), and it came out perfect. I love taking photos of wildlife and nature. And being in California, we have the ocean coastline and the mountains and so there’s a lot of beautiful birds in different parts of CA.! And then I then I have a ton of pictures of my two cats, then my husband! Lol I’m glad I was recommended to watch your video’s! 💖
Incredible! Fable is gorgeous and so smart! I can't recall ever seeing such a unique and beautiful bond between a human and an animal. Of course most animals seem to love their humans but it's like Fable is actually in love with you! ❤

Well only if you did, maybe.....I live in a city right now and growing up I saw ravens and crows all the tim --- took it for granted -- and now I miss them......well we always have the beautiful love dove pigeons in Toronto, Canada. Our pigeons are inquistive little cuties too especially while they're listening to each word I'm saying to them because they tend to turn thwir head as to look directly at me.....cheers and be well during these strage daze ♡
Walking home one day, and saw someone using a broom to shoo a young raven out of a shop doorway. This little strip mall was adjacent a hideously busy road. The young bird hid underneath a small sandwich board outside the shop. I looked around for its parent, and there was an adult, up on the telephone wires, carefully watching. I got my cardigan out of my backpack, threw it over the youngster, and then looked up at parent bird, kind of trying to let it know I was attempting to save it. Walked around the back of the shops away from traffic, and the adult followed, where it sat in a tree out the back still watching, and I let the young one go. I backed off quickly, and I hope it made it to adulthood okay.
@@EyeGlassTrainofMind All ravens still like me. Obviously word got around :-) Ex-husband was in Saudi Arabia with university; saw this guy in a street market beating a raven to death. He said, suddenly hundreds of ravens turned up, sitting on every awning and rooftop, just watching this guy. All totally silent; all eyes on this one guy. Apparently the market people also went quiet, because it was so eerie. He said he was totally creeped out and never underestimated ravens again. They never forget.
That is absolutely beautiful. I just lost my dog and have been watching "cute dog" videos to make myself feel better and this came up on my feed! This was very adorable. It's good to see people making such strong connections with their animal friends. PS, I love you George.
One day in highschool i walked out to my vehicle in the parking lot and there was this big raven on the driverside corner of the hood of my truck. Was kinda nervous and tried to just slip into my truck. He kinda just watched me get in. It was just a break so i kinda watched him and ate lunch. He wasnt afraid of me but he wasnt curious either. Weary id say. Eventually i ate my sandwich and tossed the crust out (i was a rude little teen) and he hopped down and grabbed it and hopped up and ate it on the truck hood. Rest of the year id see him once a week or so and would give him some bread and hed hang out on the hood. I always stayed inside my vehicle but it was the highlight of my week. Someone threw some shit at him one day i was so mad i thought hed never come back. He eventually did though and we had our 10 AM visits once a month or so. I know i was probably just a goofy food source but still. I graduated and wrote the truck off that summer and have never seen them around since. Not an area where ravens rtpically live so it makes sense but ive been fascinated with them ever since. So much activity to those eyes

What a relationship you two have together. Obviously, I would think, this is not something which anyone would have the access to do. You have all the right facilities and history with fable. Amazing rapport, as you say, mostly on her terms, I guess. I often listen to starlings, corvids to I believe. It’s like listening to a “Transformers” movie. Such a rich repertoire of sounds. I discovered ravens when I was a kid, a man had a pet raven near my house, everytime I was going to school or coming back from it when I was passing in front of the man's house the raven was talking to me. He started saying hello and a bunch of other things (jokes and other sentences, like "what's your name?"), imagine a 9 year old finding out animals can talk. I remember that raven as yesterday.

I work in remote areas where there is little no farming and the wild ravens are less weary of people so they get quite close. I've observed them being playful as well as burying their food and making false caches to fool other ravens. They've also worked out how to open zippers on backpacks and steal the lunches of unwary workers. They're array of vocalizations makes it obvious even to the untrained observer that ravens have their own language. When you watch them soar on an updraft they seem to be doing it as much for enjoyment then merely searching for food.
They are more like us than most people would give them credit for.

When I was building my last airplane, a raven came to observe almost daily. He became quite friendly, and ALWAYS found a way to get to my cookies! For two years that bird watched daily, and we became great friends - he would land lightly on my shoulder and "talk" to me with almost human sounds. Great bird, very smart.

1.
My father has a flight school at an airfield, where also lots of ravens have their homes.
I dont know why, but he told me a story that the local forester / hunter had to "remove" some of them. Maybe there where to many?!
The first time he shot one.
The second time, when he stopped his car - the moment they saw the gun barrel looking out of the window of the car just for two centimeters, they where all gone.
From then on I never got one more, because they recognized him.
2.
I live in Berlin in a building next to a plaza. On this plaza we have two crows that live here.
I couldnt belive my eye when I understood their behavior for the first time.
Every morning plenty of workers cross this plaza to catch their trains or whatever.
There is a bakery on the way for some of them, where they get a sandwich and a coffee.
The moment the bakery opens (employee opens the door), the crows sit about 10m away elevated in a flagpole.
They wait till someone with a brown bag comes out again. Then they follow him around the plaza until he throws away the brown paper bag into the trashcan.
Then it's their time. They fly to the trashcan and pick the paper bag out of the trash again and pick up the grains and crumbs.
They even use small sticks to get them.
It's amazing to watch...

Fable is so lovely ^^
Watching this reminded me of a jackdaw (Corvus monedula variety) I had as a child. He was just a baby when I rescued him from a cat. He had a dameged wing and we let him live in a cage untill he was healed. When we finaly released him he came back knocking on the window to come back in again. For two years he followed me everywhere, even to school waiting on the roof. Sleeping in his cage at night and flying free during the day. He was such a smart bird and he always tried to mimic our behaviours ^^
Towards the end he started to stay outside during night. One time he was away for 6 days and we thought that he had dissapeard. On the 7:th day he returned togheter with another jackdaw, jumped up on my shoulder, back to the other bird and after that we never saw him again.
His name was Edward and I will always remeber him fondly.

When l was young, my dad brought home a Myna Bird. It was legal at that time. He was so smart! He'd learn a new person's exact voice within days!

I believe they are the best speaking bird, followed closely by African Gray Parrots.
Birds are visual & that is how they identify their humans. Not scent or sound.
My first hand raised hand fed lovebird identified with my dark manicure l learned the hard way. The only other people who could handle her also had dark colored nail polish.
I took a break from my manicure one day to play with her. She yelled at me and bit me HARD! It felt like 100 times. I was ready to open the patio door and set her free! (Not really but Jeeze!)
Then I recalled a book I finally found written in this century for hand raised & fed parrots which said birds are "visual". Aha!
I quickly polished my nails and my lover girl was back! She had no idea who I was without the dark nail polish.
When friends visited who wanted to handle her, l kept a set of Lee's press on red nails for them to stick on
She would go to anyone! Beware if anyone else tried to handle her.
A black friend wanted to handle her one day. I told him I had no idea how she would respond & she could easily draw blood. He was brave, likely thinking how could this tiny bird hurt me? 🤭
Turns out he was immediately accepted. She had the best time grooming his hair, trying to straighten every curl! I'm a blonde, so this was a learning experience for me too!
Whenever I talked to parrots at pet shops who were donated as their owners had died, l could tell what their prior owners looked like. Light hair & glasses, if they accepted me.
I've never found an African gray parrot that would let me handle them, even younger birds. I always tried, but always was bitten! Amazons are another breed that unless I looked like their former human, l was always bitten.
@D. check out videos of the Lyre Bird. It can mimic machines too....chainsaws, trucks, lawnmowers.

Fable i's absolutely gorgeous. And yes, ravens are a little like cats in some of their behaviours. Have you ever read the book 'The Ravenmaster
' by Christopher Skaife who is the Ravenmaster at the Tower of London? It is clear that ravens are blessed with not only high intelligence but also a sense of humour. Sadly, living in the middle of Bristol I don't see such magnificent birds very often but I do see plenty of magpies which, also corvids, are clever birds.
Personally, I believe most intelligent animals are emotional beings, a lot like us. They not only feel love, but they also show love and recognize when you express love. Clearly, you love Fable and Fable loves you.
Falconry was, at one time, ubiquitous in the UK. Most people in the UK are oblivious to this. In fact, I believe it was common for a pub to have an area set aside for a patron's falcons. Times have changed. It's nice to see there are people keeping this ancient hobby alive in the modern world. Kings and commoners engaged in falconry, which meant it breached the class divide. I like that.

A long time ago, in the open countryside which then surounded the outskirts of the small, Heavily Industrialised town in Lancashire famous for its Layland Motors, stood a pub.
In the pubs garden were a number of bird cages.
The star was a large, amiable Vulture.
The landlord made a good income selling small pork pies to customers who typically fed most of their pie to the highly attentive Vulture.
It was so well fed on small pork pies for so long it has to be doubted it could ever have climbed back into the air.

If they can be scared then they probably feel comfort as well. This reminds me a wolf I came to fancy. As a senior in high school I would drive to school in my car.
One day I took a different way to school which went right along a small local zoo. The road past the zoo was about a block long
and was right next to the wolf area. As I drove past the wolfs I noticed one keeping pace with me as he ran through the woods.
I was not going very fast as this was a small back road. I didn't think anything about it until the next time I went that way a couple of days later.
There was this wolf again if I sped up so did he if I slowed so did he. I thought that's pretty cool the wolfs want to do that.
But I noticed this was the only wolf that would do it the others seemed very uninterested.
I found out that this wolf would also do this on my way home going the other way.
I did this the whole school year and even after it was like seeing a friend each time.
He never missed a day to run along side me. I thought he probably does this for lots of cars but found as my friends and I would drive by in their cars,
there was never a wolf at the fence to run with us. Many days he would be waiting at the corner of the fence for me as he must of heard me coming.
One day I was at the bottom of the hill waiting for him to come out and run but no wolf. So I revved my engine up and started to go and as I got a third
of the way by, hear he comes sprinting out of the woods. He seemed to like the sound of my car as it was loud, It was a 1970 Chevelle SS.
The only thing I can think of why he did it was that it was loud, I don't know but it was some very fond memories.
If you haven't heard of familiars, i think you should research them. This definitely sounds like one.

It’s so crazy that she goes from having this super glossy, slick looking head one second, to a super fuzzy, soft looking head the next. I love the fuzz head, personally. 10/10 would give all the Fable all of the pets.
I always talk to ravens and observe their reactions when they sit somewhere nearby because I know how intelligent they are. :D My boyfriend always laughs at me. 😂 But they are so fascinating!
I never knew ravens could talk until I visited an aviary. There was a raven there who had been taught a passage from Shakespeare. Amazing creatures !!! Blessings.😊🙏

I love that poopoop and the way she sets the feathers in her neck up as to indicate she wants to be affectionate. Can't tell you the size of my smile.
Your experience and advice with Fable precisely matches mine raising my first Siberian Husky. Positive reinforcement *is the only thing that works*, if I get frustrated or disappointed or upset he completely ignores me. Affection is on his terms: if I want snuggle puppy's, he'll demand 1-on-1 physical play, tug-of-war, and his favorite snacks before he'll sit & snuggle, and even then he's only going to snuggle until he gets bored. Most exhausting and rewarding creature I've ever raised. Thank you for sharing Fable with us! I've only ever seen a captive Raven once, rescued around age 5-6 years and unable to be released after rehab. He was loved, but resided at a small nature center and certainly didn't have the quality of life your Fable does!
We had a wild born crow (named Blackie) as a member of our family for just over 10 years. It had detached retinas after hitting a car or truck and I found it on the way home from work. It never spoke as crows don't seem to mimic but instead would perform very complex mimes to ask for something backed up by crow language sounds, including cooing like a dove when happy, "Wah Wharll" meant food and "Wharll" meant food. Other crow calls we couldn't figure out as we couldn't figure out what some of the mimes were about. You could sense Blackie's frustration as he / she repeated the mime yet again for the "stupid humans".
Blackie's relationship with us was that we were his / her servants. Blackie still interacted with other members of her crow clan and would share food with them. Some became tame enough to land in the garden so long as Blackie had the humans under control. One was very keen to learn how Blackie had control over us and would hop around behind me if I was carrying Blackie.
Others would sit on the roof or trees and study us with interest.
We learnt a few crow alarm calls such as the one for buzzard, the different one for a raven, another for fox, another for cat over the years. If the local crows give the alarm for a buzzard we still look around for it.
Blackie also had a discerning palate (fussy eater) and would only eat cooked meat, roast potatoes, cheese, macaroni, custard cream biscuits (pulling them apart and eating them in parts like some people do). Blackie's vocabulary extended enough for us to ask menu options and Blackie to signal when the preferred option was given.
Blackie also discovered that filling his / her water bowl with some of the daytime chocolate hoops snacks and then marinating a piece of cooked pork in it for an hour or so, made the cooked pork taste different. This became a thing to do and Blackie started experimenting with other cooked meats (chicken, lamb, etc.).
Blackie died in 2015 after being attacked by a terrier which managed to break into the garden..
What a wonderful story, sorry for your loss, I’m sure that hit yer family hard, as it sounds like he was a huge part of yer family, so much LoVe 😱❤️🌀🌈🙏🌞

Hi! Music teacher here! Question for you: When you were singing and Fable was singing back (around 8:53) Fable was singing the same notes you sang. You started on an A, and were basically singing the first 5 notes of an A-major scale, and Fable was right there with you.
I'm curious-- if you started on a different pitch (somewhat higher, or somewhat lower), would she sing those pitches with you, or would she just default to the A-scale you sang today?
I notice her "boop boops" are always the same "notes," whenever she sings/says them.
(If you don't know what I'm talking about, no stress!)

I don’t know anything about musical notes, but goin by the way she mimicks her human, I’m goin to say she would always sing in the same “pitch” whenever it’s posed to her, only an experiment would prove -either way, but that is an interesting question!!
I don't know if that goes for ravens as well, but I heard that for the "regular" singing birds in our gardens singing their "song" in a different scale is like a whole different song

Cool question. I think birds have perfect pitch and, like humans with perfect pitch, scales on a different pitch would sound like totally different scales to them.

Dinky Me , my friend , who also has birds ( exotic not ravens) and also has a home TENS machine for a knee problem. I go get treatments for my back and her birds will come and perch on me within the electromagnetic field. Including one bird who likes no one but her and usually i can’t get near but he’s the first one to come to me when I’m on the machine. I’m thinking they must be very attuned to vibrations

Probably won't happen - she thinks she's mated to a human. My friend has a parrot that she nursed back to health, it had a broken wing. Pepper thinks A is her mate. Does bird flirty things, and laughs when A laughs.
Fable was also born and raised in captivity. She wouldn’t survive in the wild.

This has happened. Not with Ravens as they (quite rightly) aren't kept as pets but escaped pet parrots have integrated with wild flocks in Australia and the result really has been wild parrots wandering around talking human.

Got tuned into these birds a year ago when I noticed around 20 of them having a fit in a neighbors tree, I walked over to the tree to see what was happening to find one was dead under the tree, impressive intelligence.

@@totallyjonesin I've read that when Ravens seem to be having a funeral for another dead raven, they're most likely trying to determine cause of death and if there is a threat to them.
@@Krista2882 that is true, but they also are able to understand the basic concept of "our friend isn't going to wake up anymore". It isn't as complex as human funerals, since they don't recognize anything spiritual, but they can still feel sad over loss. A lot of animals do

Im a victim of domestic violence and have been struggling a great deal. I spend lots of time in my garden, and 2 months ago i noticed this beautiful crow.. after doing my homework, i came to learn that it was a raven and i fell in love. With in that short period of time, we have built a strong an trusting relationship and he helped me cope with my anxity and trauma.
He saved my life.
When he calls, he can always count on me.. he brought his family and friends and i now look after them and the magpies and baby cookaburras too.
Everyone in my family and community think im crazy and say ravens are bad luck which upsets me a great deal!
To my surprise one late arvo after feeding him he left behind a gift on his fav food bowl.. his fav hunting stick with a ring around it.
ITS THE SWEETEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE FOR ME.
He even follows me everywhere i go locally in my car haha.

We're lucky enough to have wild ravens in the huge trees by our garden and we hear a lot from them! They're so noisy but I think it's a treat to have them and hear them. We actually don't see them very often so catching a glimpse is quite special.

Just amazing... I'm totally jealous, I've been feeding a Raven at work for two years now, I sit in my car at lunch and eat my butties, and this one raven was a little more plucky than others and got close enough to take food I threw. Over time he/she has got more confident and now spots my car when I arrive and will come and sit on the roof of the car next to me, literally a meter away. It'll "caw caw" if I ignore it and I swear it know the word "sandwich". I can put food on the roof of my car above my head and it'll fly and land inches above me. I feel so privileged to have got this close, I know this, cause if anyone walks within 30 meters of us, it'll fly away. I was also amazed that after been away from work for two months over Christmas, the 1st day I returned & pulled up in the car park, it was there within 2 mins of me arriving. It obviously knows my car!.. My dream if at all possible is to be involved is something like yourself, your truly blessed. xx

It amazing to watch Fables thought process as she watches you put the food and disks back. Especially around minute 2 when she beaks you, it is almost like she is shooing you away saying “GO ! I can do this by myself”. You are so lucky to be able to observe and interact with Fable and your other birds. How wonderful it must be to spend time with them. I truly am in awe. It has always been a dream of mine to have birds allow me into their world, to sit, observe, and learn from them. So glad I found your channel !
Memories! My pal from school had one that he found abandoned in Cabazon one summer vacation. He hand fed him, his name was Jughead, tiny bits of raw hamburger. Jughead would imitate the dog, the phone ringing and Earl's mom yelling at Niel to answer the phone, he'd yell at Earl to get up, get out of bed you lazy....etc. He was certainly a character.
Somehow i came across your videos. I am so fascinated by Fable. Great content and honest about what it is like around her.
Fable can sing! 🎼. She is so precious! When my husband and I went to Juneau, Alaska, we were walking around and exploring places for the day, we walked down by a long walk way to get to a restaurant that was recommended to us by a local. I saw several Ravens (they’re huge and it was kind of scary! Lol), they were just standing as if waiting to be fed by us tourists but it was like they were communicating with each other. A few were quiet but they just were not afraid to fly away like most birds do when someone is too close. I took a picture of them, I have a lot of pictures I took of Eagles, also. I took a picture close up in this shelter with a screen so it still can look around, the Eagle couldn’t fly anymore but it was being well taken care of and fed. The Eagle was just sitting but facing the wall. I made a quick click sound with my tongue and the Eagle turn it’s head sideways to look at me and I took a picture (no flash), and it came out perfect. I love taking photos of wildlife and nature. And being in California, we have the ocean coastline and the mountains and so there’s a lot of beautiful birds in different parts of CA.! And then I then I have a ton of pictures of my two cats, then my husband! Lol I’m glad I was recommended to watch your video’s! 💖

Incredible! Fable is gorgeous and so smart! I can't recall ever seeing such a unique and beautiful bond between a human and an animal. Of course most animals seem to love their humans but it's like Fable is actually in love with you! ❤

Well only if you did, maybe.....I live in a city right now and growing up I saw ravens and crows all the tim --- took it for granted -- and now I miss them......well we always have the beautiful love dove pigeons in Toronto, Canada. Our pigeons are inquistive little cuties too especially while they're listening to each word I'm saying to them because they tend to turn thwir head as to look directly at me.....cheers and be well during these strage daze ♡
Walking home one day, and saw someone using a broom to shoo a young raven out of a shop doorway. This little strip mall was adjacent a hideously busy road. The young bird hid underneath a small sandwich board outside the shop. I looked around for its parent, and there was an adult, up on the telephone wires, carefully watching. I got my cardigan out of my backpack, threw it over the youngster, and then looked up at parent bird, kind of trying to let it know I was attempting to save it. Walked around the back of the shops away from traffic, and the adult followed, where it sat in a tree out the back still watching, and I let the young one go. I backed off quickly, and I hope it made it to adulthood okay.
That was so kind of you! Ravens are overall very good parents and raise their young well. It very well may have grown up because of you :)
@@EyeGlassTrainofMind All ravens still like me. Obviously word got around :-) Ex-husband was in Saudi Arabia with university; saw this guy in a street market beating a raven to death. He said, suddenly hundreds of ravens turned up, sitting on every awning and rooftop, just watching this guy. All totally silent; all eyes on this one guy. Apparently the market people also went quiet, because it was so eerie. He said he was totally creeped out and never underestimated ravens again. They never forget.

That is absolutely beautiful. I just lost my dog and have been watching "cute dog" videos to make myself feel better and this came up on my feed! This was very adorable. It's good to see people making such strong connections with their animal friends. PS, I love you George.
That's amazing the sounds they can make; their awareness of their vocal capabilities is phenomenal.
One day in highschool i walked out to my vehicle in the parking lot and there was this big raven on the driverside corner of the hood of my truck. Was kinda nervous and tried to just slip into my truck. He kinda just watched me get in. It was just a break so i kinda watched him and ate lunch. He wasnt afraid of me but he wasnt curious either. Weary id say.
Eventually i ate my sandwich and tossed the crust out (i was a rude little teen) and he hopped down and grabbed it and hopped up and ate it on the truck hood.
Rest of the year id see him once a week or so and would give him some bread and hed hang out on the hood. I always stayed inside my vehicle but it was the highlight of my week. Someone threw some shit at him one day i was so mad i thought hed never come back. He eventually did though and we had our 10 AM visits once a month or so. I know i was probably just a goofy food source but still.
I graduated and wrote the truck off that summer and have never seen them around since. Not an area where ravens rtpically live so it makes sense but ive been fascinated with them ever since. So much activity to those eyes

@@adarkerdimension Thank you, in my opinion, chickens are learning alot faster than dogs, for example, but are way less concentrated.

What a relationship you two have together. Obviously, I would think, this is not something which anyone would have the access to do. You have all the right facilities and history with fable. Amazing rapport, as you say, mostly on her terms, I guess. I often listen to starlings, corvids to I believe. It’s like listening to a “Transformers” movie. Such a rich repertoire of sounds. It’s fantastic to listen to. Please do keep us updated on your time with fable please.
