Fable the Raven | Preparing for our move | Travel Box Training

- Опубліковано 8 чер 2020
- With 6 weeks to go until my house move is complete I'm making sure all the birds are prepared to travel. As Fable has lived and flown on this farm her whole life the move will be most challenging for her.
I am in the process of box training her, so that when it comes to the move she will be happy to travel without any drama. A new home is going to be a huge change for her, so the more we can do to make it a smooth journey, the better!
Thanks for all your continued support - much love, and see you all soon!

That box appears small compared to Fable. Any reason Fable couldn't use the same kind of travel box used by the Falcons? Enjoyed the well produced video and music. Thanks Amy & Fabel.
She likes to see out, weirdly she feels safer because she can see what's going on. Its common with parrot species too. Falcons and hawks like to "wind down", corvids like to see what's happening. It's also important to make sure the box is not too big as that is where they will injure themselves. Its comfortable enough for her to stand in but not so big she jumps around and hurts herself :) hope that makes sense...
Falconry And Me ....got it...! Makes total sense....
@@FalconryAndMe Winding down vs Seeing, that is an interesting difference between Falcons and Ravins. Although I will never take care of any birds I do enjoy learning details about their behavior and thought processes.
@@FalconryAndMe You can try to place the box higher, on your eye-level, put some sticks & hay inside, and you won't be able to take her out after she claims it as a "nest" :)
That is my 2 cents from working with pigeons, some birds feel safe and secure in small spaces only if they are able to observe their "territory" from there!
Edit:
The best position would be to place the box back close to the wall, as high as possible, offering the best view of the area, and a perch in front of the box "entrance".
@@FalconryAndMe
I have parrots and have helped wild birds over the years and you are correct.
She obviously knows it's a safe box, she's just training you to bring her maximum number of treats whenever there's a new thing.
Yes
Yes, and the "training" is going well!
You know, given how smart she is, I wouldn't put it past her.
Common Ravens’ cognitive toolbox includes manipulation by deceit. - Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Handbook of Bird Biology
This should be the goal for all animal training. Making the learner think they are training you. I go into the box and get treats? Easy! Let's play this game all day!
Those shots of Fable getting used to the box puts her size into perspective.
I was going to say the same thing. The bird looks huge when you see them both together on the ground and zoomed out some.
She seems slighly bigger than Loki or that's just me? Loki is quite large too. I herd that males grow bigger. Is Fable a scandinavian raven since she's pretty large
I agree. I mean, she looks big on Amy's arm but then you see Fable on the ground while Amy is sitting and you're like oh wow she's massive.
I wouldn't be surprised if she is a scandinavian or Norwegian raven. These are said to be the largest raven subspecies on the planet. She is most likely a descendant of Huginn and Muninn!
I read that ravens are as large as red tailed hawks
I say boop boop, then my fiancé and I will say wow! in unison. So yes, we love fable and your channel (:
Haha same here 😂👍🏻
HA!😁
Myself and my son do this too 😂 it's infectious 😂 x
So cute 🖤🖤🖤
Me and my brother are doing the same 😆
WoW! Boop Boop
"You're not making this easy...."
That should be a caption in parentheses prefacing every Corvid characteristics list.
One of the many things I love about Amy is how well she handles interruptions. She responds to everything Fable does (or is certainly aware of everything), even when she's in the middle of doing something else important. 😊 And she responds so lovingly! No wonder the birds are crazy in love with her!!!! 😊🙏💚
@@rumigirl good point. It's very reassuring to see that Fable's well-being clearly takes precedence over presentation or ease of recording.
You are such a great role model for young girls today! 😁
Yessss, absolutely! Love her!
@ Sassenach1 Totally agree
Isn't that the truth?
True👍
A great role model for sure !! This should be shown in schools. Highly educational !!
When I was working at a university, every morning the crows would great me with a huge chorus. I would talk back to them, people thought I was crazy, lol. They put beautiful feathers and trinkets in my path, until I had a great wall of feathers. The -flock- _murder_ moved on, or was driven away, and I still miss them.😔
I talk to the neighborhood crows too, keeps the pesky neighbors away...cause I’m coo-coo❤️👍🏼
Aw, they brought you gifts? That's so wonderful. Really a sign that they saw you as one of their own in a weird way. How cute ❣️❣️
That's so wonderful and special that your wild, black feathered friends left you gifts!! Thanks for sharing your story!
@Thomas Paine no they ate at a local rendering plant.🤢 My late husband worked at the plant and I think the crows connected with me when I brought him lunch. After that, about 50+ would sit up high in these old trees and wait for me to talk to them. After I went in to my work building, they went back to the plant for a snack, lol. Our son has this 'ability' too. Imagine all the feral cats in the neighborhood sitting on your porch, wanting to come in! He can tame anything.
@@chuckbus you are not coo coo. You are what human beings are supposed to be.🙄
My Nan nursed a crow back to health in the 70’s - he totally fell in love with her and would sit on her shoulder whilst she put the washing out and hand the pegs to her. Watching Fable reminds me of her especially when you are honoured with head bumps. You are so patient- it’s lovely to see how close you are.
I never realized how large Fable really is!
Murrrr! I agree, I watched all the Fable videos but until she was next to Amy on the ground, I didn’t notice her real size.
Me to!....i said out loud 'Shes so big!'
Basically a gothic chicken
Anna Hill much, much smarter than a chicken.
@@annahill99 how disrespectful to ravens..
I had a chuckle when smarty pants Fable pulled the berries out of the carrier. Watcing Fable process things is just fascinating. Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated.
I just love fable's fluffy head. You're so lucky to be able to interact and love such a beauty!! I think your videos are so wonderful to watch and so calming and informative xxx
*Good luck with the move! Hope you have lots of help!* 🚙
I have parrots and there is similarities with bird behavior across the board. My girls do have second thoughts about things like boxes, unless of course they are broody and then want anything even closely resembling a box. Fable has a wonderful and thoughtful owner who knows the right things to do. Good luck with the build and move. God bless you 🤗🦜🦜🦜
I laughed so hard when she dragged it out. You could almost here the "I'm just going to take this out, thanks."
I know the "boop boop"s are a fan-favorite, but I love those long Fable croaks. Even though she talks, hums, kisses, and boops, I think the croak is the funniest sound she makes!
It's called a purr :)
What a black beauty! Just love Ravens. Your patience and understanding of her personality is just wonderful to watch. Thanks for sharing...whaaa, boop, boop!
6:40
Falconer: You go in?
Fable: Nah, treat comes out!
Even by the high standards of this wonderful channel, that was one heck of a delightful 'upload'. Fable is the stuff of legend!
Fable is gorgeous.
I always forget how big ravens atually are. Probably only a medium size bird to you but I have to say to us lowly non bird people 😆Fable seems big.
Huge!
boop boop! Good luck on the move, fable!
I never usually comment, since I'm one of the first, might as well say it. This bird is lovely, I love discovering Fable's routine. I hope the moving goes well but I'm not really worried, you seem to prepare and handle it professionally !
1:56 Oh my god, she is gorgeous! I'm in awe how beautiful she is. We hardly see her beautiful back.
Her back is amazing and the camera doesn't do it justice really
Ahhh the great Mistress of 'Boop boop!' is back and my mood allready increased a lot :-)
Many many many thanks for this Vid Fable!
Oh and also thanks to your Human as well ^^
What has surprised me most in this video is how big she is. I’m not sure it was quite so apparent with the torso shots.
Yeah its hard to understand on video just how big she is sometimes
@@FalconryAndMe omg I know you might have a boyfriend or Husbund . but damm girl you have a nice bum!. sorry I had to get that off my chest. :) btw you have an awesome youtube channel . I use to work at a bird of pray centre a few years ago

@@barbarasmith2693 Agreed. Also, worth noting that it's awfully presumptuous to assume she's straight. #justsaying
You know when you get a song in your head and you can’t stop singing it. Well I can’t stop saying boop boop, mwa and hello. Never thought I’d be mimicking a bird haha. 👌💕
Fable: "Mwa!"
me *dies*
Your so patient.. it pays off. Love the channel; best wishes
"I dont want her to become bored!" - at the today's training with the fruit I got for one moment the impression you were bored, I was just waiting for the moment you start to eat the fruits.... 😂🤣😂
I think I would've eaten one, for sure! 😅
Fable is so special...you guys have a wonderful relationship...thanks for the update
Oh it's just so lovely to see how much she trusts you, and how you explore the box together. She's come on so beautifully in a short space of time really.... A wonderful video Amy, thank you so much for sharing 👍🏼🙏🏼😊
Just laughing at her standing on your head. Lookit me! I'm a hat!
I'm so excited you've decided to continue & make more videos after your move.!! You have opened a whole new world for most of us. Your patience & love for your animal & birds is OUTSTANDING!!
Please tell Fable I said "BOP"!! I ❤ HER, all her tricks & SPLENDOR!!!😍
Pore Fable! having to move from a mansion to a small bungalow I don't think I would be happy lol, Love what you are doing see you next time.
I have a little statue of Odin in my kitchen
And on each shoulder is a raven whispering in his ear/ he sends them around the world and they return to tell him what is going on/ Norse believed ravens were intelligent and loyal/ just like

Good luck with training and moving Amy,
It will be great to see your new home!❤️
No worries! Focus on your health and upcoming plans. I enjoy seeing and learning about all your birds. You will certainly be extra busy over the next month and we will be here when you are all settled. Best wishes.
Call me a weirdo. I bet if u explain the whole situation, we are moving, this is your crate, everyone else gets a crate too or whatever. She will get it! You got this Amy! & i hope everything flows perfectly well with impeccable timing, i can only imagine what you are facing with this move! GODSPEED!!!

6:39 Fable is all like "I have an idea!!" YOINK!
Dear
Falconry And Me,I would like to ask if Fable would be allowed to come and live with me and my Family of Crows that live outside my house.I have already asked the Crows and they are very happy to accommodate Fable into the mix.I feed them 4/5 times a day a variety of proteins and fresh meat and of course Monkey nuts.Last week Fable wrote to me and said that she's always wanted to come to Cardiff and that I should ask you if it would be ok with you :D
Seriously I wanted to commend what you are doing with your birds it must take up some much of your time, but its rewarding for sure. All the best I gotta go feed the Crows we got 4 chicks out of the nest 2 weeks ago they are growing fast and very big and noisy!
Aren't monkey nuts risky? Not sure about corvids, but parrots shouldn't eat them due to the mould or something that can grow on some of them 😲
I have Crows that live around my house that I feed as well. I have watched them gang up on a Raven and chase it out of the area more than once.
@@hunterhunter5906 Yeah, I've seen crows attack ravens loads of times. They really don't seem to get on at all. Not just in groups, either- they'll even go for them when its one-on-one. I always think its weird that crows are completely unafraid to attack something that's basically like them, just a lot bigger. But they're a lot more agile than ravens, and the raven seems to fly off in hasty retreat every time they fight. Crows will attack anything they see as a threat, even big raptors. The only birds that crows seem remotely wary of are large gulls, and even crow-gull fights can go either way.
@@chrisball3778 so, crows are basically the crazy short girl of the bird world?
No wonder I relate to them!
Really looking forward to all your new videos! Please take your time, we are waiting patiently :D
If the Sticky fits, then the box is alright xDDD ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for showing the whole painstaking process of habituating an animal to a new thing. It’s always taken at the animals pace and often I think the gradual nature of the process is kinda “glossed over”....Fable sure loves her berries hunh? Lol I love the way when she fluffs her feathers it changes the whole shape of her head. Hope the move goes smoothly for you both and that Ms Fable adapts quickly to her new home. Don’t worry about us during this moving period, Amy. You have a lot on your plate atm. I love catching the photographic updates on Instagram, and am happy to watch whatever you find time to put up but concentrate on getting you and the animals moved safely as your priority.
Few in my life, I have seen people who know what they are doing and actually enjoying what they're doing. You, young lady is one of them! Job well done and good luck.
I see others are commenting how big Fable seems. She is so much fun. This was interesting to watch.
I can't get over what big bird Fable is. Such a beautiful creature. 🖤 Boop Boop Fable! 🙂👍
Her hairstyle is so fluffy when she poofs her feathers on her head :3
Aww lass you've got the patience of a saint so you have. Great video thanks for sharing 👍
Fable Just makes me smile, what a superstar.
It's always great to see you and Fable interacting and it's a pleasure to watch. Take care and stay safe ❤️
You're the best Martin
@@LibbyTickles Thank you young lady. Having been a falconer many, many years ago it brings it all back to me and I just LOVE it. Take care and stay safe.
You are SO patient and wise! Your kindness and dedication is an inspiration to us all! God bless!
She's big, beautiful and utterly adorable.
I'm jealous.
Only in a video like this do you see just how big some of these birds are.
Wow you can really see the affection Fable has for you Amy.. What an amazing relationship you have with these birds..
I have fallen in love with Fable !! I just bought a mug cant wait to receive it
You’re such a good “Mama” to Fable! She’s a beauty and she has such love and trust for you! Good luck with training in getting her into the travel box, I know it’s not easy, we have two cats and when one of them needs to go to the Veterinarian for a check up, they run and hide or fight us to be put inside their cat box but luckily we don’t use the cat box very much, and once we get one of our cats in, they’re ok, no fuss or giving us the evil eye! Lol Take good care of yourself and have a great week! 😁💖
Fable is hands down the cutest name for a raven! I love it! 💚✌️💚✌️💚
Fable seems to respond well to your little hum you do. Do you sing when doing the day to day chores around the aviaries?
Yeah I chat and sing to her all day...she loves it 💖
@@FalconryAndMe I watched one video of her when she was alone and it looked like she was practicing those hums.lol
@@Vikseproducts she was definitely idly humming. Mind you, i sing dittys to my cat, N she calls in response now n then. Knows a few dittys now. always was a chatty kit, but if you reinforce it, it becomes a game. not always, cos cat. but if im playing xbox and she thinks my hands could be used better, she'll sing. and to bring my attention to the biscuit bowl that is empty. far nicer than a grating yeowl. the more you talk to your companions, the better.
We live with a 30-year-old male, sulfur crested Cockatoo (adopted). His behavior exactly matches your bird. We love your patience and your videos.
This gorgeous animal is so affectionate. I believe that she loves you.
Amy,
I love seeing you and Fable together.
You both have a real bond, like having a featherd child. Take care of yourself, moving can be stressful, but if the new home is where you want to be, is a new adventure. 😊
I love Fable's fluffy head! ❤
The Blue/Purple tint on Fables feathers are awesome when the camera shifts angles :)
Utterly Delightful......When People have the discussion about the "Best job in the World".... Yours has to be up there.... Take Care Amy :-)) xx

Excellent!! Thank u 4 the video & updates!! Can't wait 2 c Fable in her new digs!!!😀😍😘😘 Hope the crate training continues well!
Moving for a normal household is a monumental feat. For your “Aviary Household” I cant even imagine but I’m sure it’s more than monumental.😊. We’ll jump on whatever you can get to us Amy and look forward to regular videos when you’re settled. Thank you.
You helped take my worries away miss fable and mom! 🦅. Oh how I’d love to kiss her! What a character! Good luck with the move, it’s work but you’ll settle quickly with all your birds and dogs❣️
🌎I know exactly what Amy's going through with the moving to a new location...it can be very stressful. Thanks for takin' the time to share your latest update Nature iCam Vidd of Fable... hopefully, she'll adapt to her new environment. Ravens can be extremely sensitive & hyperactive when introduced to new surroundings. In that way...relative to humanity.
🌍I pray that Amy & her family will take alittle time for herself to have a “relaxin'chillin'out" vibe. We can all use a calm & peaceful plateau right now on what's goin'on in the world. First, the pandemic COVID-19...now, this horrific police brutality of a human being!!🙏🏾!!
🌏Think positive!!!
I've just discovered this delightful channel recently,..completely enjoyed watchin' some of the iCam Viddle & I already have a few favorites of Fable.
🌐Be careful & I hope that everything goes well with the new home...many blessings!!!
💙 STAY🙏🏾SAFE💙
It's heart warming to see the dedication you have for the safety and well being of these fascinating and magnificent animals. Keep up the good work and we appreciate you allowing us into YOUR life!
Hopefully the move will go smoothly. I leave my cat carriers in the open, my kitties use them as sleepy and hidey places. Now when they need to go to the vet all they want to do is go back in there!!!
The love that raven has for her! We had a blue budgie named Pirot ,( parakeet) that loved my dad. The moment he came home from work, Pirot would open his cage and fly upon the shoulder of my father. They were best of friends.
Wow, she's huge! When sitting with her beside the box I realized how big she is.
Best of luck for your big move!❤️ are you spending this kind of time with all your birds? Your patience and passion is so inspiring!
Yes, its all i do all day. :)
Falconry And Me getting all the birds ready for a move must be a massive undertaking and the time you have taken with Fable showed me how inadequately I prepared my pets for a move. And as a matter of fact, I am learning a lot from watching you work with Fable in my own handling of my dogs and cat, even though they aren’t birds, the patience translates to the same language if you know what I mean. So thank you for that. :)💗
Hi Fable! Great to see you! She just wasn't having it at first, was she? Bless her heart, she's a doll! No problem Amy, we understand. Best of luck on the move! Boop boop!
Can't help but smile every time Fable says, "boop boop."
Wow! It is very easy to forget how big these Ravens are
Boop Boop ❤️ Fable saved my day, yet again!
That super done look into the camera when Fable tips out the berries onto the floor 😂
Ha ha ha! Someone else just noticed the same exact moment! Amy is soooo 'on it' -- but never impatient. She's the coolest.
I am all, Thank You for being patient with Fable, and with us! She is a BIG birdie! Seeing that cat carrier does give good perspective on her "girth!"
Pretty fascinating watching you normalize her moving box so she will be comfortable. You are a good Fable Mom! As ever, a pleasure to watch and learn through your eyes. Thanks again for sharing. ds
Doesn't look stupid at all. Takes a lot of time to acclimate any creature to new things.
Patience is the key. 👍
Diligence pays off. Give yourself an A+.
Yay Fable!
It's quite apparent the strong bond you two have. Your patience with her is amazing. And yours with Fable's, too, Amy 😊.
Such loving patience...! (I suspect most people wold just shove the bird in the box without thinking much of it...). I love that your videos always have insightful information (never "just entertainment" of birds being cute...). Also love your expression of utter motherly disapproval at 7:23 (so subtle) XD. We'll happily bear with you and greatly appreciate you uploading videos in what is certainly a hectic time for you, with the upcoming move and having to look after the new chicks!
I love to see when a person takes the time and patience , and cares about the feelings of a creature ! she could have just thrown it in a cage , and only cared about herself, but because she didn't , it shows the love she has for this bird! outstanding we need more of this in the world.
Fable is part bad-cat-pushing-things-off-shelf/table/etc.
Corvids, like hookbills, are incredibly intelligent and affectionate creatures. Such a beautiful bird!
"Hey Fable look, a travel box!"
Fable: :V
Always lovely to see Fable and great that you are ensuring she feeis as happy as possible for the move. She's a lucky girl.
6:44: Raven's all, "Right, I'll just bring this box of berries outside, then." You two know each other so well! Honestly, your patience with each other is very endearing and speaks to how important it is to have animal friends to strengthen our connection with and appreciation for nature and ourselves.
Lol that moment when she tosses over the berries is hilarious! Like she’s saying ‘no way I’m getting those berries from the box’ haha Clever raven...! And I love that ‘whuaaaaaaa’ or whatever it is that’s she’s doing.
Edit: that ‘whuaaaaahhh’ sound of her reminds me of the movie The Grudge’. She would do a great voice over ;-)
Just adore "Fable". Will show your videos to my students, once this pandemic is behind us. (I'm in Connecticut, USA). Best wishes on a smooth move to your new location. xox Marilyn

Brilliant work! God bless you. ❤️💐
I have never felt as strongly as after having watched this that I need a raven in my family!
Such beautiful and clever birds!
Fable is magnificent, good luck on the move
Thank you for the video.
Hope the move goes well.
I think it is fascinating (and wonderful) that Fable knows not to use her beak "on" you...Have you ever had to be concerned about that? Is it akin to my dogs knowing not to "eat" my fingers when I give them a treat? She is so VERY beautiful...that shine!!
Paulabella I can say with 100% certainty that Fable does occasionally bite her. Ravens have their own moods, just like people. If you mess with one at the wrong time, it will bite and twist. I have had plenty of these experiences. Lol
@@jrang7562Living with both corvids and large parrots I can say you're completely right. Hell sometimes they can be happy and just get a bit more nippy and hurt you.

Those white feathers showing are amazing to see. New down? Will it always be white or change? I've had 4 different white winged crows visit me in the past couple years, with every wing set being unique..
