  • That amazing RF 24-105 2.8's was back in stock with B&H Photo so I picked one up! Love the lens but it won't balance on my old RS2 Pro. Hopefully, it will work with the new RS4 Pro.

      Appreciate it man! I figured I couldn’t be the only person wondering if this would work out. Since this video I grabbed small rigs weight for DJI gimbals and it has given me more clearance allowing the camera to not have to sit so far back.

    Thanks for the informative video . I roll with the R5C such a beast of a camera!! quick question does the Bluetooth work where you can do Auto rec? All the best!

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  2 місяці тому

      Bluetooth doesn’t work I believe the excuse canon gives is because it’s in the cinema camera os. The workaround I’ve found is picking up a Control Cable Type C to
      N3 for 5D4 5D. This allows me to power the camera through the usbc input and control my camera through this cable and the rs4. I’m going to do a quick video on it. Here’s the link I purchased mine through. www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804762624262.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

    Do people not mark their mounts once balanced so they can quickly get back to a quick approximation of balanced in a moment? Just use some silver markers.

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  14 днів тому

      Yeah I have everything marked now but this was the first time I ever attempted balancing this setup. Not that it really matters because I don't know about you but I don't trust it ha. If I have something set up and it should work I still double check it. Ive had it happen before where the gimbal should be balanced and it has powered down and stopped recording mid-session.

    The first thing you balance is the lens pointing up!

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  3 місяці тому

      It’s been awhile since I’ve watched a balancing tutorial. That also explains why I would balance it horizontal then vertical and then horizontal again 🫠

    It shouldn't be that complicated to balance that lens on most gimbals. We've been flying the Fuji MKs on the R5C for years now. You should just add those smallrig (or any brand) counterweights to your camera cage. A couple of those 200g ones and you'll easily move that camera forward and be able to do any move.

    • @tildeathphotofilm

      Thanks! I guess I just wanted an excuse to upgrade to the rs4. I did also order small rigs counterbalance kit so I’ll check it out on my old rs2.

      Do you think a rs4 with a r6mii would be able to run this lens with some counter weights?

      Hey, did you recheck it on RS 2? I am buying this lens with R5 mark ii next week. And have DJI RS 2 pro with me. I am also worried about it's balancing, as i have to shoot 2-3 hours continuously in concerts. Please please let me know your point. Thanks @@tildeathphotofilm

    very interesting video. I have the canon R6 with the 24-105 F4. I just got the weebill 3e which holds this combo .... but I am wondering if it would hold the F2.8 ... not so much for the weight than for the size. Canon has made this F2.8 zoom lens for video, and with the constant size it is perfect for gimbal work .... except that it is so large and front heavy that it is not so practical. As you point out, most reviews of this lens are for photography, and your practical demonstration for gimbal and video is much needed. Would you recommend it for gimbal once you have used it in real scenarios?

      The rs4pro handles this set up straight out of the box. My rs2 had too small of arms for this big of a lens. I recently added a small set of weights from smallrig to help offset the weight for the long lens and it now works flawless. Before I would occasionally get warnings depending on what focal length I was at or if I was at an odd position. Now I get none of that.

    What is the total weight of the kit?
    How long can you use it before you feel tired?
    How much can you work with it by also using the zoom in shooting?

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  2 місяці тому

      I’m not sure of the total weight but it gets heavy after a while. Going to pick up the gimbal strap from small rig to help out with that. I don’t hook up the focus motor for zoom as I feel like it makes me tinker around with focal length more often and ruins more shots than it creates.

  • @crxgator
    @crxgator 5 місяців тому +2

    Any reason why you're not attaching the gimbal to the lens itself?

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  5 місяців тому +3

      I had to upgrade to the new gimbal for the longer arms and I guess I just assumed mounting the gimbal on the lens and making it more centered would push the body too far back and hit the main motor. There's already not much room as is. I have no doubt it would be easier on the motors and easier to balance like you said but I doubt there would be room. That being said once I'm done backing up last night's wedding ill give it a try and report back.

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  5 місяців тому +2

      doesn't work, unfortunately. The camera ends up going past the back motor so far you would never be able to get any low shots or really anything past horizontal.

      @@tildeathphotofilm thank you for letting know. How are you finding the lens? I’m a photographer looking into doing video shortly. I have the lens but I’m pretty disappointed with it. About of chromatic abrasions, I feel it’s very soft as well compared to the 28-70 f2

      @@tildeathphotofilm how's the length of the lens vs the base plate when trying to add the lens support? is it too short or just nice?

    • @tildeathphotofilm
      @tildeathphotofilm  4 місяці тому

      @@crxgatorthe only issue I’m finding and it is an annoying one is when adjusting the focal length something strange has happened a couple times with the aperture. It will act like a cheaper zoom lens and the lowest app will raise but still reflect the original setting. This is fixed by raising or lowering and then bringing back to the desired setting. Have you ran into this issue?
