Ah yes. Paying for a game and then suddenly not being able to play it.
This is why I'm not against piracy.
The people who are against piracy don't really get the big picture and are only harming their own interesting. The fact that companies can basically delete a game that you payed for should be reason enough to support piracy, aka game preservation.
It's just ridiculous to force PC gamers to login with their by history proven unsafe console network. I don't have a Playstation, I don't need or want one and I especially don't want a PSN account.

Some suits in an office somewhere want pretty numbers on a spreadsheet. Sounds like they're so preoccupied with that that they've forgotten that selling more games makes more money. Making customers jump through hoops for your convenience isn't how that's done. I haven't bought Helldivers and I definitely won't now. Real life can be hard enough without adding unnecessary bullshit to your free time. No thanks. Happy star wars day everyone!

Well thats the thing. You could enter false info in ps account.
and when you link accounts, usually it only shares essentially harmless info, like your DOB maybe your name if you entered it in steam, email address and age.
It doesn't give them your steam password, but keep the passwords different
This right here is why I refunded my copy. I'm so pissed about this because I had *JUST* installed this when the news dropped about the PSN thing. I am NOT going to take the chance that my Steam account could be compromised too if Sony has yet ANOTHER data breach.

If you live in the EU, due to the GDPR you have the right to request a copy of all the data Sony is holding in/regarding your PSN account, and you also have the right to ask for the deletion of both your account and data.
Be careful. Some companies (like Rogue Planet) straight up delete your account instead!

Gaming can't just be fun anymore. The corporate tentacles have grasps over the industry and those blokes only care about money.
My best friend said he's gonna quite when the last day of the grace period ends. In that cause I'll join him and leave too and request a refund.
I requested a refund and it was auto rejected for having played over 2 hours. Here's what my request said: "Publisher bait and switch/ cutting off a service I paid for. The developers have announced that they will restrict my access to the game unless I sign up for and use a third-party service and account. This requirement was obfuscated at release and waived for three months, before it was announced as a REQUIREMENT to continue to play the game at all." I wholeheartedly believe this is an illegal act and intend to pursue it further by filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, my State Attorney General, and possibly the Consumer Protection Bureau.

It is not just sony doing this it is arrow head aswell.
It wasnt required at launch and it now is.
The regions that it does show on that map doesnt cover most parts of it as it requires have a ps5 in many of those regions to create an account.
I honestly don't care about this but the blatant BS in their statements is what bothers me.
I saw a few articles in the last day saying Steam is issuing full refunds even with hundreds of hours of play. Worth a shot.

Hey Commander! How does Helldivers 2 feel compared to Planetside 2? I know its not PvP nor first person, but does it have a similar feel in so far as engagement? Could I take my small group of PS2 players over to Helldivers for a few hours of fun? They're nothigh-skill or competitive shooters, but they do enjoy PS2. What do you think?

The words "necessary" and "required" aren't the same thing. Regardless if you think a PSN is necessary, if it's stated at point of sale it's required and you click buy you're agreeing with said terms of the retailer. Seeing something is required and thinking it's not going to be enforced is on you.
SNOY faq said that PSN acct link was optional, then changed it to required for some games on May 3.

Russia and China not being able to play gets rid of probably 80% of the hackers and botters, which in itself is hilarious, but forcing people to link their account is cringe.
I just wont play the game, I havent linked any PSN to the game, if it requires me to do so. I will not be a helldiver anymore and the 200 hours i put into the game will be lost in my steam library.

Cyrious I know you have a better grasp into the business side than most people think they do, and with this insight we better can understand why studios are ran the way they are. Do you agree: that this requirement for HD2 users to link PSN, is definitely some part of a contract AH has with Sony and there's no room for renegotiation. I think that all we can hope for is that this makes AH, Sony, and other parties watching this from the sidelines, weary of pulling a stunt like this in the future, and that if any game to go limited time accountless, that they would make it super clear to buyers? Thats all it woulda taken for this to be a nothingburger, for 90% of players to have known PSN was only temp optional. myself I have 120 hours and I had 0 clue.

Isn't this really bad for the game? It means if you don't own a playstation you cannot play the game. That's a decent chunk of their playerbase on pc gone just beacuse of the link requirement.
you dont HAVE to own a console. you just HAVE to have a account, but its still a fucking rug pull for all 130 countries where PSN isn't allowed or available
