But is so close to be good. A vehicle with 2 gunners is supposed to be challenging, but just obliterate a heavy tank like this and walk away with full HP is a little too much
Sunderer went from Clark Kent to Superman. The problem is now we have 50 Superman Sundys teaming up to devastate or stalemate the map. The Planetside tank industry may have to lay off thousands of workers.
As if this game even had that many players left

From a game designer's standpoint, a patch fails if the players aren't using the new stuff the way it's intended to be used. Failed.
From a level designer's standpoint, a patch fails if the players don't break their keyboards out of frustration within 30 minutes. This wasn't a level design patch, so not applicable.
From a player's standpoint, a patch fails if they're not having fun. It also fails if someone else is having fun. So for tank users it's a double fail, while for sundy drivers it's a resounding success!

As Miller NC, killing sundies is gonna be impossible now since our faction is unable to coordinate 3 tanks to shoot the same target at once
This kind of thing is why I stopped playing Planetside. What I'm seeing here hasn't "improved" anything, it's only made existing problems worse. For example, overpopped fights. Before if there was a zerg ball rolling around the map and dropping 96+ on a 1-12 base, you at least had the option of going out and killing their sundies. Granted, the zerglings would then whine about "waah, y u kill fights?" incessantly, but newsflash: that wasn't a fight. That was a bunch of people gathering around a spawn room, wasting bullets/lasers at anything that moved, then going to the next mostly undefended base and doing it again. But now that the sunderer update has hit, that exact thing is going to happen, only without the option of a couple of defenders going out and popping busses with either tanks or C4. And sure, popping one or two busses against a 96+ zerg ball might not have saved a base, but it at least gave defenders a chance to try and make a difference rather than just redeploying to a different fight and waiting to get cut off when the zerg ball reaches their warpgate and forces the defenders to come back and be farmed by the swarm.
Another good example: vehicle use. It was already obnoxious to have half a dozen tanks endlessly spamming rounds at your spawn room or defensive locations or anywhere else infantry gameplay might take place, AKA literally any fight on Esamir. The only thing that eased this was a friendly armor group rolling in to join the fray. Except now that armor group is going to be utterly useless against the handful of enemy sundies rolling around, leaving the tanks with nothing meaningful to do but pound rounds at the infantry farm. Not to mention the inevitable event of sundies driving around infantry bases, being completely unkillable and farming the poor sods who just want to try and leave the spawn room.
Also, you said this was different from CAI as it was a buff to one vehicle rather than a nerf to everyone and everything, but I have to disagree. By making sundies overwhelmingly powerful, the devs have essentially nerfed everything that isn't a sundy into irrelevance. Congratulations, Planetside 2 has lived long enough to see CAI 2.0. And before anyone says "Oh, you're just looking at the worst case scenarios," yes. I am. Because here's the thing that no one seems to want to acknowledge: people are terrible. People will use whatever they can to get even the slightest, most meaningless one-up on the people around them without a second thought. It's a mindset of "who cares if it's unbalanced so long as I'm getting what I want?"
As a Sundy main myself....I'm gonna go out and collect some debts I'm owed! yea, Sundy mains rejoice. Gonna teach some bullies a lesson or two :)
The best part of being a sundy main right now are the road kills, getting on a point and going around the spawn room
I wouldve been happy if they just made locked down sundies MEGA-TANKY. But this is.... flip flopped to the direct opposite side of the power spectrum
They are, if they run both deploy bubble and nanite armor. You have to blow through a 3000+ HP shield to begin damaging its HP if it has time to fully charge, and unless you have infantry putting on pressure or a heavy numbers advantage with armor, you aren't going to have the DPS to kill it. It's just that they are tanky enough with nanite armor and have enough maneuverability now to actually serve as APCs, and be extra menacing when supporting an armor column.
In my opinion, The extra survivability of the Sunderer is really needed, with how quickly fights end with a single LA with C4, it is actually really nice for the Sundy to have 2 layers of Armour. But to even out the extra survivability they can reduce the overall damage output of Sundy’s to make it not so overpowering when compared to MBT’s and Lightnings. A Sundy surviving and supporting other Vehicles is where it should be instead of being to output more damage and be tankier than actual Tanks.
If you look at the Sundy certification tab (that one where passives usually are) you will notice that there stuff like chassis or basic Fire Surpress are absent there. Upgrade lines also have correct names, which are Deployment, Defense and Cargo slots.
Pretty sure it means that devs just didn't finished clean up yet, and most old abilities will be gone, likely.
But yeah, otherwise is like what you said. Battle bus is fun (and scary, if you are in Lightning), while Deployed Sundy seems.. alright?
Time will tell.

SUNDERER STRONK! It's about time the poor bus got a healthy buff. I am okay with being able to enjoy the absurdness in its current state. I am sure there will be a rebalance to bring it more in line soon™.
People complained about Sunderers being too easy to destroy for a while now, of course the rework would have buffed things too much.
It's mostly because the PTS is mostly empty, so not much balance feedback was made...
When Overwatch released the first post-launch character, she was pretty OP, and be cause of this, Sombra was trash when she came out.
Things take time to balance out when this happens. I'm just glad the devs still care about this game :)
People coomplained "deploey" Sunderers are too easy too destory.

Things do take time, but this game is over a decade old and we get like 1 patch every month, if we're lucky. And let's be real most of the time the patches are just number tweaks. We can expect sunderers to be broken for a year or so before they fix them.
Its been a while, but i think it might be time to get back to Planetside.

Deploy shield and deploy dome do not stack as far as I can tell. The former doesn't charge while the dome is active.
The Point Defense which improves fire rate and reload speed at the cost of faster damage falloff is pretty nuts for NC trawlers due to their high min damage. With reload speed upgraded you can get like 1 sec reload while deployed. Also works with bulldogs since those always deal flat damage.
also this just means that c4 javelins are even more meta for vehicle killing, lol
it would be awesome if Sundys could sacrifice deploy reinforcements ability and top weapons for a heavy deployable turret anti tank / anti air or big shield generator
While I don't think a sunderer should be stronger than an MBT in theory...it needs to be useful. Now a sunderer can push the line or sneak over to new bases to start caps without being crushed by a stray vehicle or even small group. It has potential to break endless stalemate fights and keep base caps moving along. Not necessarily bad.
I'm no sunderer main, but even though this is fun as hell it creates new challenge for the mbts. Change isn't always bad or good. It just is and it's adjustable.
And honestly ESFs never needed to be able to solo a sunderer...i welcome some extra beef. Maybe they could turn it back just a little bit? Hopefully not the typical "whoa we turned it up to 11 now we need to turn it back to 2!"
So I did some testing when you could still equip racer frame post-update. It actually did make you go faster, like about 90 kph instead of 85, and that was when I only had it at level 1 but I was unable to upgrade it.
The sunderer is fun to use now and I really hope they change tanks/vehicles instead of nerfing it, maybe increase nanite cost so you can't chain pull them when you do eventually die. Like buff tanks and make them need a driver and gunner instead or something like that. Sunderers currently feel appropriate for needing 3 people to effectively operate. The other armor types for the sunderer could probably be buffed to be competitive with nanite armor though.

They don't play the game
Haven't played at all since Wrel left and also won't be able to check out the patch for at least a while. However, with Wrel gone I have a feeling that we're going to be seeing Reddit finally get the full extent of their balancing wishlist through into live. I don't think I am eager to see the result of that.
Especially since one hit knives are gone, and rocket launchers too.
I'm loving the fun. This is a good idea. dont nerf it at all. just slightly upgrade everything so its all fun and all balanced.

Okay I play the game since the first came out on PlayStation and switch to PC and I still play it thunders has always been the biggest part of the game because you need the sundowners to be deployed closest to the point to win a point I've always beat lightnings it's always been good you just need to know how to use it it's just with this update it's better
Why didnt they just add the tankyness to sundis when they are deployed, it should never have been so OP that it can take on so many tanks

A friend and I started to deploy heavy anvil inside waterson. Deploying sundies and driving over infantry that other people started doing the same. It was such a blast and the most laughs I had in a long time. Really needs a nerf, but just for a week, this will be the most fun you will have !

My take on it, and maybe it's a hot take, but instead of nerfing it down the line (except maybe fixing unintentional things like double shields), buff everything else so the game is more exciting like this too. Lightnings can't 1v1 a Sunderer? Give them a way to be able to do so. It doesn't have to be just a buff to weapons/damage. It can be some temporary buff like a shield or invisibility while moving for a couple seconds so they can sneak up on an enemy or run away, or even better mobility to take advantage of their low profile. That sort of thing.
My reasoning is that it'll make the game more exciting for people who only play the game casually or occasionally, myself included. If you only play PlanetSide 2 like a couple hours a week and most of what you do is babysitting a point, quick deploying into some big fight that ends as soon as the big outfits lose interest, or ghost capping so you win alerts, that gets boring quick. But if everything gets buffed it'll be more exciting to play even if you only play a couple hours a week. I'd love my time in the game a lot more if I always feel like there's more action happening.
Nanite armor combined with repair station is too powerful together for active tank combat. They need to make it so the nanite thing heals slower, pauses healing when taking damage temporary, or just keep it as is but only make it work while deployed. The whole idea was to protect spawns, but they are being abused to outplay MBTs now. A loaded sundie could also pop out several heavies or maxes to burst fire an enemy tank down too since it has 12 seats.
Thanks for keeping the updates coming Cyrious, you're helping me keep one eye on the franchise. Even though I don't play anymore I do still somewhat care what goes on in a game I spent nearly a decade playing a lot of, basically as often as the navy didn't have me sailing. At 7:04 you answer your own question. Yes, you and your crew are having fun, because being OP is fun. The 4 players with 4 combat vehicles and one combat aircraft who got their butts handed to them by 3 players in one logistics vehicle are now one BS session closer to uninstalling. I was laughing watching the first 7 minutes because there's no way that should have gotten to live. Test server? Sure, that's what test servers are for. Not live though. And the follow up of "There is no problem, this fine", that's why I stopped playing. I like a game studio that isn't too afraid of making mistakes to experiment, but they need to be willing to say "Ok, that was bad, we're pulling it" when something is bad rather than doubling down and insisting that there is no problem.
Anyways, I look forward to Planetside 3, whatever year it will come out, and when that year comes I will see you Planetside Commander! o7
The funny thing is it's actually about as bad as the high fire-rate bug era, it just takes a couple seconds longer for you to die to them when you're in an MBT. 😄

I haven't visited Auraxis in a little over a month now. This doesn't make me want to stop by for a visit, it does the opposite actually. Yes, I see the fun in it, however it also reeks of "this game is old and we really do not care anymore so have fun with OP sunderers". If y'all have fun with it in this state, have at it! I'm at a point where I would love a rollback to pre - Shattered Warpgate times with the bugs fixed. I know that was ages ago, but those were some of the best times I ever had. I racked up my first 1000 hours in those days quick!

@@KaneLivesInDeath Real life APC's combat ability is against Infantry and Light vehicles not Tanks. Game mechanically Tanks should be a hard counter against Sundys, big L actually. People keep arguing what are Vehicles even for in PS2? Well they exist to protect Infantry from enemy vehicles and kill busses. Now Sundys does all of that.
@@DemonKnight94 They should just reduce Sundy's Anti-armor capabilities. With its survivability tuned up, it now has an interesting role. It should still be able to kill vehicles in some scenarios but it shouldn't be able to 2v1 tanks lmao. Maybe survive the encounter but not kill them.

Infantry have ALWAYS been the counter to deployed sunderers.
frankly if for no other reason i hope the sundy stays as healthy as it is currently. i hate the dead servers and dead fights in bio labs because 1 guy pops the sundy at the actually good fights on the map

I think using overpowered things is more fun in general. But i think it's short lived, There is no way Battle Bus should be the strongest Vehicle in the game. The only argument is that it requires 3 players to be maximum effectiveness, but 2 player bus is still almost as strong if the driver is good at hoping seats. There is no way a Sundy should beat an MBT in a straight cqc 1v1. And as a Lightning enjoyer, my favorite vehicle. It sounds awfull that it's so bad now, if they don't want to buff all the other vehicles they have to cost way less nanites. But that also increases vehicle spam.
I am going to make the argument that the changes to the sunderer allow new players to participate in the vehicle game more now than they could previously, because making a decently effective battle bus costs far fewer certs than it takes to make ESF or MBTs that are similarly effective. On top of this, now there is a reason for groups of randoms to ride in a sunderer convoy moving from base to base instead of just redeploying and trying to pull a spawn point at the next base in the lattice. That ultimately benefits infantry tactics in a way that allows more fights to break out between bases instead of always fighting over who gets to spawn in at any given objective.
@@carlodagunz That argument is invalid in every type of game, if it's strong for a new player it's even stronger for a more experianced player. Even then, an APC should not outcompete the other vehicles when it's way cheaper too. It's bad game design.

Glad you're having fun dude but it's hard to see how this could be called a successful patch when they've created actual monsters in the game XD Guess I won't be pulling a vanguard any time soon although I don't use vehicles much anyway except as transport.

F it, its the only good hard spawn the other team should have to organize(you know the point of an MMOFPS) to kill a sundie. That nanite armor is OP though just drop the insta heal from 3000 to around 1000, 1500 and as an old mbt main I don't even care.
It would be cool, if Planetside got a re-release or a remaster of sorts. Basically something to merge PSN and P.C. as it stands it seems like the player base is spread out thinly.
It would be cool if that could happen and hopefully just seasonal content. Something to keep people coming back. Battle pass stuff and things that are modern that actually make sense to keep more player around.

You have to group up to fight other busses for sure. Tanks you can ignore but other busses are a risk.

This is a good chance for RPG to buff some counter-Sundie options instead of nerfing down the Sundie again. Buffing the MBTs is the most obvious choice. At the minimum a Magrider with gunner should be able to 1v1 a bus.
Just reset the game. There haven't been any good changes since 2017 anyway

As far as i'm aware, Planetside2 became a meme at this point. There is no other point in playing this game than pro farming lower tier players because they invested any amount of money. Thats it. It's done, this is the end of PS2. I have no more hope and heart for this pile of garbage my favourite game have become.
that is what i hate about sniperside i mean planetside. Now it will be called Sundayside. they make every vehicle a "combat" vehicle. there is no specialization. EVERYTHING is a killing vehicle. Wish they would fix the game, instead of making new stuff, cloaked vehicles used to never have weapons on them, as a balance.

Yeah, it may be fun but what the hell is the point of any tank now? Why even have them in the game if it doesn’t have any sort of roll fill anymore. If this is the final state of sunderers then lightnings and MBTs need to get the same overhaul.

havent played in months, as a non member you just get to play the off map with a couple squads of enemies, thats not fun. love the game but they played to much to outfits, nerfing everything. as a member for years it just stopped being worth it. pay to play, pay to kill more and pull more vehicles.

Sadly cyrious you sposed to be a voice for the ps2 pc & console community just as there's a player based on pc that have been playing on console that actually love the game unsurprisingly however you do not cover or bat an eye to our issues that we have been struggling with people abusing wall/ground glitches where thay camp in the walls at almost every base no updates for the last 2 yrs let alone a hot fix at least no communication with the community its like we don't even exist and our voices don't even matter not to you or day break even though there alot of people that still pay membership, aslo we haven't had a summer or Xmas event for almost 2yrs esamir has been locked for god knows how long now I mean we have nothing

Always been anyways keep preaching about pc issues and ignore console side hope you have great time and apologise for my frustration but the silence is just not fair that pc has been getting alot and we haven't had anything for year's.
After all discussions about how sunderer meant to be destroyable spawn point, and was never the issue for doing role it supposed to do, and how the issue always was lack of any sort of competitive mode or base design to support low population gameplay, they still listened to loud minority that doesn't understands the core issues behind the problem and just overbuffed it...
Very disappointing.
The only thing I dislike about this game is that all of the comment sections are filled with people just complaining.
