While the caravan is passing through towns, you can interact with them. Just click on the town when you are close. This lets you buy tools, sell loot, or even hire fresh bros.

The key to survival in this game is to know where guards patrols are. Keep upkeep low and try learn how fight and running away at the same time. Most of the time getting hit is the same as death. So weapons that can push away enemy with 2 square range like pitchfork are supper usefull at start.

Good editing, well paced video. Glad to watch it. If I may make a suggestion, run a de-esser in your editing software, I feel like we're getting a little excess sibilance in the audio. Subbed

I noticed your guys don't all have knives or daggers in the backpack.
These are very important to get gear. Basically the more damage an armor or helmet has taken, the less likely it is to be lootable.
The dagger is a bad weapon, but its' secondary attack ignores armor. That also means it doesn't damage armor.
When the fight is mostly over, and the enemies are fleeing. You can have your team switch to daggers to take the last guys down without hurting their armor further, increasing the chance they will drop their armor.
Try to surrond the fleeing enemy with the best looking armor. If an enemy is fleeing, and can't move due to being surronded, they will just do nothing. This gives you as many turns as you like to hit with your dagger. This is easier than it sounds, because fleeing people goes last in initiative, and sometimes terrain can help you too.
And of course you can add a bit of that gambling element too. Sometimes you can start daggering down before the fight is completely won, and maybe loot more armors, but it is risky to pull out your knife instead of your spear in a fight.
Especially early game looting more armors is great and can really snowball you. Better armor -> less dead bros -> less money spent on new bros and bros get to higher levels -> more money for high tier bros or gear.
One more tip, the flail has an attack option that always hits head if it hits. So if someone walks up in good body armor, but shitty or no head armor. See if you can get your flail guy to bonk him in the head. Not only will you kill him faster because you don't have to work your way through that good armor, but the armor will also be in good condition, and thus have a high drop chance in the loot.

      Actually 🤓☝️
They're not at all, and you have plenty of tools at your disposal you're missusing or not using at all. The game has a steep learning curve. People have done the hardest fight (The hardest fights, Kraken, Black Library, and Black Monolith are pre scripted and not scaling like the rest of the encounters) in the game before day 20. Some have even done them with only one battle bro. That's not normal, and those are fringe cases granted, but when you figure the game out, you'll regularly be full brigand raider gear by day 15-20, taking on Noble Houses by day 40, busting camps and sporting famed items long before the first crysis. It's all up on youtube, with plenty of guides on how to do it. The biggest thing you have to understand is that BB is a tempo game, and you need to outscale it before it does the same to you.

One thing I like about this game, that I think it got from Darkest Dungeon and even Mount and Blade, was how it uses genericism to aid the world-building. With its low-fantasy setting it leans into the theme of "you are not the guy", with bigger fish on the scene you have to run from constantly.
Its refreshing as it aids in the procedural nature of your brothers story, and that they are truly unique and your own, VS an "important" character that has to be unmutable due to a conventional story.
The only real plot device is "make money" which leaves the design of your characters and perspective very open ended. You start as lvl 1 thugs but you have the freedom to become lvl 99 gangsters. But its all a generic setting, so the story is about your play and experience, instead of what a lot of fantasy does which is to plug a pre-written story on top of the setting. The story is simply the rise and fall of your company, its self containted.
However I would say I would have liked some kind of difficulty option that drives the "you are not the guy" theme up to 11 by making the enemy scaling based purely on time, and not on your partys relative strength. By scaling the enemies off of your party, the game mechanics still fall into the trap of accidentally making your company "the chosen one".
I guess you can play with city destruction on to force you to reroll before your guys get powerful enough, but I don't think thats the same.

Lmao! Picked up a 1 star contract on Day 4 to escort a caravan 1 town over. It paid 20 gold upfront and 190 when job was done. I thought easy enough... nope! That caravan got attacked 3 different times. 1st was by a mixed group of 5 thugs and 2 Raiders. The 2nd and 3rd times were units with only Raiders in them! 1 star. Day 4... Yeah, I'd certainly say contract difficulty is unpredictable. On the bright side though, I gained like 5 or 6 Raider armors out of it and my frontline is now decked out and tanky by Day 5. But I am playing on Expert/Expert difficulty, so that may have something to do with the crazy encounters

I just hate that the game basically requires you to use a dagger to shank your enemies or you'll never get any of their armour.
They made it a bit too unfair to be worth playing more.

a lot of enemies dont have helmets, just use a flail and oneshot them.
