Probably forever as he's nearly 40 with a spine injury

Glad you made it through this in one piece, buddy.
😅
@@rattymaty are you gonna continue to run em or switch back to a conventional rim set?
Still running the front wheel, but went back to a chrome wheel in back.
@@rattymaty did you switch back just for the increased braking ability with the chrome rim? Or was it for strength reasons?
i just had war flashbacks when you were talking about putting tires on Alex triple walls.
😂 I was 12 years old and about 116 pounds running the Alex Triple Wall 48’s ready to jump to flat off the Empire State Building
Yeah dude. Do not miss that. I do miss being able to pump friends lighter bikes to full speed from curb cuts though 🤣
@@andrewcox7416 I had the Free Agent Super Fortress...gussets fucking everywhere...and Alex Supra-E triple walls. Bitch weighed 36 1/4lbs on an actual bike scale and I did ride trails on that fucker
My hands hurt just thinking about triple walls. 🤣
The struggle was real. Peace to all my brothers who we lost. You'll not be forgotten xx
It's cool that Eclat is pushing boundaries for BMX. I just got back into BMX after 10 years and coming from mountain biking, one of the main reason why I shifted back to BMX is to go back to a more simpler, raw and fun time without the need to spend thousands of $$$$ into top end parts just to have a good time. But I can definitely understand why someone would want these I guess. If you got the money why not I suppose!
True. BMX will always remain core, but there are so many different personalities riding, that it’s rad to see all the new parts coming to fruition. Welcome back to the session!
I’ve just ordered a set of these, I found them pretty much half price over Black Friday weekend. Thought it was worth a try for the price (still very expensive for rims tho 😂) thanks for releasing the review! 🙏🏻
That’s awesome! How are they holding up for you?
@@rattymaty they’re currently stuck in customs 😑 I spoke to you through Instagram the other day asking how you found them. You proved that they hold up jumping off that roof multiple times 😂🤘🏻
Ah yes I remember that now. Lame man. Hope they get to you soon!
I think those rims are best suited for bowl and dirt riding I don’t think they’ll last very long street riding I would run one on the front but not the back though 🚲💨
Kept the front one on for sure.
I really appreciate companies like Wethepeople/Eclat who have the capital and resources pushing technology in BMX.
Straight up! Awesome to see & awesome to be a part of.
Dudes with Ti bike setups are salivating at these.
Ryan getting more and more comfortable in front of camera is great to see. Good job!
Totally agree with that! I think he just keeps his dog Branson in the room so it’s not as weird hahah.
I would absolutely run these, I'm older and try to be smooth anyway so I feel like they would probably work well, unfortunately with the price of carbon fiber atm I'll stick with my ol trusty primo wheels.. Awesome wheels tho and I'm psyched to see bmx parts continuing to move forward!
As a weight weenie/mountain biker (mainly), I have tried to convince myself that I do not need these but the WANT is real....
His bike is super clean dude, I wish my bike looked that clean. It's like a Ferrari or something lolz those treads he has with that weirdly satisfying green frame and the half link, oooo looks so clean!!!
Thank you! Probably the freshest bike I’ve had in awhile hahah. GT Globetrotter frame is translucent yellow, so it has some interesting color changes throughout the entire frame. Stoked on how they looked on that pretty thang tho!
Love these
These do look beautiful and are such a cool, trick addition to a bmx bike.
So cool. It was my first time running a black back rim, cause brakes love chrome, but I was hyped on the feel & the look.
I've been working Composites for about 15 years. I would love to get my hands on these.
I feel like these rims are going to be seen on lots of pro bikes, dudes like Felix are making use of the tech and pushing riding to insane levels. I feel like it's only a matter of time until the other parts companies that innovative create their own version (Gsport/Odsy, Fly, etc.). Eclat has an advantage having sister companies with composite experience. Looking at these I think you could set them up tubeless with little fuss, another little improvement high level riders could utilize.
The future is here and it's sick
Absolutely agree with you there. It’s a wild moment for the bike scene. Stoked to be involved!
There’s absolutely no point running carbon rims with bmx. They’re expensive, the ride quality is poor and they’re unreliable. The same thing will happen that has already happened in mtb which is as soon as they start to shatter people will go back to alloy rims.
@@TheNotoriousMIC unreliable? Alloy hoops flat spot and bend all the time, carbon just doesn't do that, and the same hit that'll destroy a carbon hoop will destroy an alloy rim. "Ride quality" jfc dude it's a BMX bike, tire pressures are low anyways. It's a high end part for a high level rider. The use case is specific but there is justification for them.
Mountain bikers aren't giving up carbon hoops either, maybe opting for alloy because of what's available right now but you're just claiming shit man 😂
@@owenlattin4185 that’s not true. Your correct about a carbon rim not folding or flat spotting instead they’ll just shatter or crack or rip your tyre. I’ve seen carbon rims crack or split on something that would only normally dent a regular alloy rim and you tyres and wheels are a huge factor to how your bike feels and performs. There needs to be compliance in your wheelset in order for them track and grip and just general comfort and carbon wheels don’t do that well. Say your railing a bowl your wheels a flexing giving you grip. Carbon rims won’t flex and instead will just step out or slide out because they won’t conform to the shape of the ground the same. I’m mainly a mountain biker bmx is something I do on the side there’s not much I don’t know about this subject.
@@TheNotoriousMIC I think you’re right. They work better for mtb because you have suspension
Awesome review ourbmx! Definitely getting a pair when I have an extra 700 dollars. Eclat makes amazing products
Glad you enjoyed it! Had a blast in the process. You will for sure love them. Let us know how they are please!
@@rattymaty Yo Maty great hearing from you! Love the riding and honesty in your presentation. Hope you do another update on that crack after another year or so as it would be interesting to see what happens to the rims ^_^
Appreciate that a lot! Thank you. Curious to see how they hold up too.
hey any updates?@@rattymaty
I have a pair of these! I love them, light and strong enough for my riding!
That’s rad to read! How long have you had them?
two years and how do they ride?
Fairly certain carbon specific pads are not just used for grabbiness, but for heat dissipation. Dragging regular pads can heat the carbon to a point where it can damage / weaken it. Maybe not an issue on BMX as much as road where you drag on descents a bit more, but still worth keeping in mind.
That’s new info to me. Thanks for that. 🙌
Yes I heard that as well. The first pads I had on there were Kool Stops I’d been running for over 10yrs & they are just the best pads ever. But they did slowly get more chewed up from the carbon rims, as I would see the reddish color appear more on the braking surface. However, I ended up trying the black Eagle ll shortly after & liked them as well. Both good.
Can 100% agree with this.
I think eclat said you can use their white or clear pads with the rims as those pads are softer.
@@rattymaty for textured rims you run hard pads. For chrome rims you run soft. The Kool stop pads you have are salmon compound the original soft compound then clear became available but salmon pads are best middle ground clear are kinda ultra soft need to test the eclat white pads. I'm assuming you run chrome usually? If so try clear or any ultra soft pads plus the chrome. Squeals like a goose but holy shit the locking power. Just grab odyssey clear pads otherwise I can't be sure they won't chunk to hell on chrome.
love it
Got my wheelset today, this review made me pull the trigger on these.
how do they feel? im contemplating getting them
nice 👍🏽 review!
I think if Ratty Maty done majority of his "No Bad Thought" video with this rims,
I think it will survive BMX freestyle but thats just me..
Thank you! No Bad Thoughts took about 3yrs or so to get finished & sadly didn’t have much time with the carbon rims while finishing it. Rode them more after that video tho. Thanks for watching!
This is for people with money or who ride at an extreemmmee level ... otherwise I feel as if you don't really need to spend the money on these when other metal rims are already insanely strong . It's great for the market , and the We Make Things team is always putting out good components . Options make everything better .
Well said for sure 👏🏽 if it’s only a manner of weight and not actually strong enough to keep the rim true longer than aluminum it’s not really worth it to most riders imo
RWilly. LOL. He has carbon rims. Im curious if they are eclat or alienation.
Options make everything better. Nailed it with that. I was honored to have the option of testing these, otherwise I don’t believe I would’ve had the chance.
I came very very close to getting a set earlier this year. It was a weird decision, due to disabilities I don't ride as much anymore so the $$$'s input was a bit scary lol. But then the weight savings are pretty crazy! I ended up getting E440 Rims, they're not a huge deal heavier & obviously a hell of a lot cheaper. Plus I'm sloppy AF grinding lol
@@pirate_duck4985 I’ve got two compressed vertebrae so oddly enough I was considering the rims cuz my 25 lb bike feels more like a 50lb bike nowadays but I can bring myself to do is cuz I hang with the ledge folk a bit too much lol
Forget the rims, this guy is tough
Very impressive product 👏 👌 I've been riding street and park bmx for 16 years even race bmx. Once they start to fray it'll drastically decrease strength. If feebles, ices, crooks and double pegs are some of your common tricks, make sure you have deep pockets 😉
Unless you're dialed at em. I don't think I've ever hit a rim on a feeble trick.
My understanding from extensive research (i.e.watching UA-cam) is that carbon fiber can be precisely engineered to do amazing things, like in auto and aerospace, but that is not always the case in the bicycle industry, Carbon is everywhere in road and mountain bikes: frames, cranks, handlebars, forks (yikes!), so hopefully there's been a lot of working out of the durability issues that are important to bikes.
I agree & must say they felt & still feel sturdy from the abuse BMX riders can enforce.
@@rattymaty I just saw a video from GCN the road bike channel where they tried to break some carbon rims by running INTO a curb with out trying to hop, faster and faster and even with a weighted vest, lol, worth a watch!
Ya that sounds like so good entertainment! Hahah thanks
I’m glad you made this video I think there cool I’ve been wanting to make my bike lighter especially because I run a free coaster and pegs etc but that bsd hub should definitely make my back end lighter I am thinking of lacing them with titanium spokes for the wheel rotation weight to
Sounds like a sweet setup is in the works!
@@rattymaty yes indeed can’t wait till it’s all done
Don't use ti spokes.
Butted spokes and alloy nipples can be just as light or lighter. Ti spokes with alloy nipples is generally a no go.
If you want I can tell you a few cheater tricks to make that hub lighter cheap. But gotta link me a way to dm. Tryna keep the info on the downlow.
Just as an FYI. Planning a carbonic wheelset with the bsd coaster. By the Time I'm done all the mods on the hub it's gonna be like 3 ounces lighter then stock or more. But I'm doing a custom driver plus swapping the axle out for a titanium one. There are a few options for swapping the axle out though with other brands axles.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 what’s the difference between ti and butted
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🤩👊
For extreme jumps like nitro circus is a good thing for better spinning
For street riding u prolly gonna smash them if u ride dirty
No dirty riding hahah
E CLAW? I always said E CLAT lol
We have to pronounce it like the Germans, yet no one ever pronounced Madera or Verde in spanish since they're spanish words. Enough about that let's ride🍻
He's saying it correctly
Alienation also makes carbon BMX rims but I think they are just for park. They are listed at 270 grams. If I still rode heavy Id cop a pair of these. My last wheel set from Cinema about 4 years ago cost my around 500 so I could totally see coping these and reusing those hubs.
Ya that would be rad.
The only thing with carbon is direct impact can lead to delamination, but in my view they make more sense for bmx than mtb since on mtb you run quite low pressure to get grip and more prone to bottom out the tire on rockstrikes. And these are cheap compared to the mtb world where 1000 bucks per rim are not unusual
I am a mountain biker who only watched this out of curiosity. I have found a lot more reliability with carbon rims on mountain bikes than aluminum. I have carbon rims with a few years on them doing great. Aluminum rims would often get flat spots that prevent tubeless setting up right. But that is my anecdotal experience.
For sure was bummed to see the damage that happened from a little slip-up on that yellow barrier, but thankfully it wasn’t enough to ruin anything structurally. Reached out to the owner, Dave, to make sure it wasn’t a ticking time bomb you know?
Agreed with the flat spot explanation. I would do a back tire stall on the edge of something(a fufanu if not known) & can usually squish the tire to the rim before yanking off to land it. Cased a few good times too & didn’t notice any flat spots. Cheers!
This dude knows.
@@rattymaty dude you're fucking jokes rock on man rock on.
I was wondering why there are no carbon parts in bmx. Danny MacAskill is running fully carbon fiber street trial bike (frame, forks, bars) and seems to be working good.
One answer: it's expensive, and one hit on a ledge, and it's done for.
@@Tejno it is expensive but also is titan. I haven't done much research but mtb downhill frames are also made is carbon (better ones)
You still don't fight with concrete, metal edges, ledges, rails in mountainbiking. Plus, mtb is a roch mans game. What does a carbon DH bike ever cost?
Steel has held up so long in bmx, and on a bike without suspensipn, the flex in Steel helps.
Id definitely buy a carbon fiber seat post lmao
Gotta save where you can hahah
Just got mine built up with galaxy rust elites look ultra mint but hopefully they hold up
Yo that sounds wild! See if you can send some pictures please! Would love to see those. 😍
Does it really help for your back? (I have back problems)
Carbon rims are becoming the norm in mountain biking. At least on the higher end stuff. I have resisted getting them on my mountain bike. But honestly, after seeing this and how well they hold up here.....maybe I should get some on my MTB. Not sure I want to get them on my BMX bike because at my age I simply don't ride hard enough to need them.
As I said in a different comment, I have had more luck with carbon rims on mountain bikes than aluminum. We are one is making some incredible stuff that puts up with downhill biking just fine.
Happy to read that & hope you do get some for the big bike! Thanks for tuning in.
That’s not true at all. The only pro’s running carbon are the once’s forced to use carbon. Given a choice they all run alloy rims and I personally don’t know anyone who runs carbon rims anymore in mtb mainly due to them not holding up to abuse and poor ride quality.
@@TheNotoriousMIC We must know different people. I see more and more mountain bikers running carbon rims. Especially the ones doing more aggressive freeride and downhill because they can run Cush Core and have lighter indestructible wheels.
@@ShadLife they’re not indestructible hence why you have to run a 300g insert and high pressures to make them useable and obviously sticking a 300g foam insert inside you wheel kills any weight saving advantages you might have gained from running carbon. Combined with the fact they have a harsh ride quality and don’t conform to the ground and you have to run higher pressure so have less grip and they’re unbelievably brittle and unreliable is why they’ve been pretty much rejected in mtb. The pro’s don’t use them because instead of the rim simply denting the rim ether shatters or cuts the side wall. Carbon rims have been and gone in mtb. They’re last decades news not the next big thing.
Everything has a fatigue point, but carbon tech has proven itself in the auto racing industry, as well as the mtb, cycling and BMX racing world. Use and longevity in the end comes down the use and user. If you're a rider that can make use out of ti spokes, chances are these hoops will be sufficient and the user just has to justify the cost/to benefit ratio. I'm excited to try them, only possible con would be braking apposed to chrome, which wouldnt a concern if there was a hub that used modern tech to improve a internal hub/drum style brake that would also have its own benefits.
Could you add some kind of plastic protector to the exposed sidewall of the rim? Just as a lil extra protection?
With more expensive product, the industry gets bigger and has more money to spend on talent. They should absolutely seek out endeavours like this! I would love you get a pair of elites laced to this on a ti bike... Things to pass down to your kids lol!
Absolute honor to test these!
any brake strip wear from using non carbon specific pads? or just eat up pads?
The pad I had kept on were easily 10+yrs old, but still worked really well. I did notice the braking strip of the carbon rim having a slight color change, due to eating the pads more than I was used to. Ended up putting the other pads on, which were meant to work better with carbon & since they were black, couldn’t tell if they were also being eaten up by them. But they worked well.
So using these to build the dumbest light wheel set.
Eclat carbonic rims. Butted spokes. Need to see if I can use alloy nipples still. Light weight rim tape.
Tree rear cassette hub and a bsd or colony planetary coaster. Far east cycles front hub with ti internals swap the bolts on the front to 17mm hex head ti bolts vs 15mm, add some hub guards.
Shadow serpent 2.3 rear tire. Tubolitos. Haven't decided on front tire yet but probably a grifter. Maxxis torch 2.2 for the skinner rear option on dirt. On street probably an alienation f1 tire in the rear pumped a little past max psi. Shadow serpent front.
Custom ti axles in the rear hubs. Custom 7075 or titanium drivers. Even with the coaster by the time it's all said and done I might be sub 6 pounds on a wheelset that'll handle street.
Didn't alienation and box one components make carbon rims? I know you mentioned they've been in racing but I thought they had been at least available for freestyle just not really commonly used
Alienation’s were available for quite a bit before Eclat claimed to make the first ones.
@@Brant_Moore LOLOL. Right!?!? My favorite factoid is that Spin components made carbon fiber tri spoke wheels for BMX in the mid 90s.
I have no background knowledge of the alienation rims, so this is all conjecture… But I believe the distinction is that the Eclat Carbonics are designed from the ground up specifically for freestyle, whereas the Alienation rims are carbon rims that were made for racing and either marketed or modified to work for freestyle.
@@OurBMX That makes sense. When looking at the specs alienation def would only work for racing and some park.
So what about flatland freestylers? A lot of rim bending but not slamming typically so will they have a higher give to getting messed up or will it handle old school tricks like Miami Hoppers and Cherry Pickers etc..the weight would be awesome but ya know?
I’m also curious about a flatlanders perspective on these. Seems like they would work really well.
Double wall 4 life
Alienation needs do one of these videos
Я купил такие колеса 40 лет назад для своей bmx "Кама". Я счастлив!👍
Carbon's main downfall is direct impact. Wheels will hold up well because the tires provide a good cushion. Cranks on the other hand are never going to be carbon. Cranks get beat up too much. One thing to keep in mind with carbon is it shows no sign of stress fractures or heavy fatigue. Looks can be deceiving when identifying if parts are compromised after a big impact.
Also I don't understand the confusion around carbon in this video it's not mysterious. All it is, is a carbon fiber weave immersed in resin that cures in a mold.
LOL Box has four options for carbon cranks.
@@fallenhobbit6554 Yeah and they are intended for racing like all Box components so that's totally irrelevant. Let me know when they are used for freestyle. Carbon is not holding up to crankarm grinds and pedal grinds.
@@RockyPondProductions I could keep arguing but you seem intent on dieing on this hill alone. cheers.
Good point on the not being able to notice structural integrity. I didn’t know that. Thanks. It was fun shredding these wheels for sure. Awesome to see people’s reactions when they learned they were carbon too.
@@fallenhobbit6554 Not much of a hill to die on when all of the Box BMX cranks are literally 6061 or 7075 bud
Teg plastic part of the addles would be cool to be made of carbon fibre. Saddles add quite a bit of weight to the bike..
Honest to god...we're GONNA see someone pull a 1440 on a box and someone else pull a 720 truck down a 10 stair because of the reduced rotational weight
I believe you’re onto something here….🤘
I was about to mention rotational mass but you got to it right as I was typing lol
Envy sun tingle rims RL race hubs been good for street bashing .
Man I wana test theese bad boys
It was such an honor.
The problem with carbon is once it cracks it splinters. With aluminum it only dents. So if you're riding hard carbon will shatter and cause serious injury, I've seen it first hand. And yes carbon does delaminate after some time. I'm an avid mountain biker and have carbon bars, bar ends, seat and seat post and they have been fine. But my frame is 7005 aluminum and it is bullet proof. Carbon is good only for road vibration in my opinion. I would never do anything hardcore on a carbon frame. I always stick to 7005 aluminum as I believe it is a far superior material.
There on sale at the moment on source bmx for £297.49 a rim
Oooo dey is some sexy hoops! Xx
So purdy 😍
Yup XD
I would think once they dial in the stiffness from rider feel back, they will be poppy af and worth the $ for many. I’m sure they are engineered as bombproof 1st priority 1st iteration.
Ok so which one of your friends makes the carbon rims?
Friends of friends 😅
But is it stronger then 48 spoke
bonedeth wheels
The ultimate question🤔
i would love em on my trail bike
They would rip!
I wouldn't mind a set for my flat rig. Nowhere on the eclat site has an option to buy em.Unless I'm missing something.
Would be awesome to get a flatlanders perspective on these.
@@rattymaty after what you put em through im'm pretty sure they'd hold up just fine for flat.
😉
Carbon frames are next.
I have carbon road wheels that survived a full head on hit from a car while I was doing over 20mph where I broke 5 ribs and collapsed a lung. The front wheel that took the impact only took 5 minutes to true up at the shop. Carbon fiber is way way stronger than most bmx riders actually understand.
they should send keiron reilly some to see if he can do a six whip in one jump!
Aye aye! Not a bad idea hahah
Carbon fiber bones.
I feel like Maty was perfect for yours this. Lol. But yes. CF rims are a great thing for Freestyle. If you're someone like me who doesn't do big shit mainly ledge shit, the only reason for them would be weight. But for maty, Dennis, Nyquist, it's perfect. Now my biggest question is how often do you have to true them because that's a game changer if there's no need to true. It would make me want brakes. Lol. And it's there room? Yes. Every other aspect of bikes has there different stuff. Why shouldn't freestyle?
Appreciate your comment. So far I can say I have had to tighten/check my spikes less than when I would run other rims. Just took a real good front tire hit the other day too & got an instant flat, but the rim was all gravy baby. Tough cookies for sure.
Next generation high-performance ultra light weight & stronger bicycle rims will be made of forged carbon fiber with edge of the rim made of kevlar (more abrasion resistant) Forged magnesium can be manufactured to be stronger and lighter compared to forged carbon fiber composite
would be interesting to get feedback from flat landers as well. carbon fiber mag wheels would be sick.
That’s a great idea! I’d enjoy hearing their feedback too.
Wonder if R WILLY is in them
If you got carbon on your datsun might as well get some on your bike.
There’s a lot of fiberglass on the Datsun, but no carbon. 🤣
@@OurBMX same.
“As it becomes more affordable” lmao no matter how expensive it is, carbon/Al it will still break
700 for rims is not the way!
But it could be for someone! Never limit potential.
i enjoyed the shit out of this.
Hell ya! Thanks for tuning in & leaving a rad comment! 👊
Carbon fiber peddles will run into the same problems as riding ledges.
I agree, but thank goodness I’m not a ledge monster.
If it’s twice as strong as steel can’t they reduce the # of spokes. Just saying
Does seem a bit crazy. These have more spokes than a 29" mountain bike wheel that has to be dealing with more lateral forces at the rim.
Wonder if they offer a 28 spoke option.
Maaaaybe?? But you gotta get acceptance first then work towards that…
Interesting to think about that.
Straight up.
Try it into solid ground with real street riders not park hehe thanks sir
How do these compare to my ACS Z rims? Lol
Too much Id rather have a couple pounds on my bike than 600 out of my pocket😂😂😂
Imo, if you around 175lbs -190ish you'll be fine.
I like it because I can't hear the brake noise.
that's a good point. i know people who would buy just for that
They would still make some noise at certain moments. I think when I would use them a little more during a session, the rims would warm up & make the noise. Not as loud as some chromies squeak tho.
@@rattymaty I think it is important to adjust the surface of the brake pads. I solved the noise problem with my high leverage custommized lever, but sometimes I adjust the surface of the brake pads.
Yes of course with adjusting the pads. 😉👊
you need to run carbon specific brake pads.
Bro I want them
Carbon fiber seat post. Carbon fiber seats with padding but stronger stiffer seat base and lighter no limp dick pivotals after a year anymore.
Put them on my cruiser.
I'm a horrible rider, bad landings, poor tricks, etc... So this kind of rims will be a no for me hahahaha. But they look amazing and the idea is nice in my opinion, price hell no 🤣.
I can still kick myself in the behind we're selling my graphite Z rims and graphite Tuff IIs
I’d give them a try if they didn’t cost 80% of my weekly salary
TIL how to pronounce Eclat
Running the lights rims and the heaviest tires. Makes no sense
Speaking of my tires specifically? I’m not a weight weenie & love the Odyssey Aitken tires for nostalgia & types of terrain I usually ride.
@@rattymaty they are a amazing tire don’t get me wrong but defo negating the weight difference
Oh good. I needed as much weight as I could keep on hahah. Bike was SO light after putting those wheels on. 🚀
Send it on flat
They say steel is real...I say carbon is a bargain. 🤣
I've been riding BMX for 15 years and I am also a road cyclist and I can tell you that price won't ever come down. Also I think that any dirt jump rider could ride a carbon rim. I wouldn't throw a 540 down a stairset with those. You need to use carbon specific brake pads they are not the same material otherwise you will destroy your rim overtime and it void your warranty. Now onto stronger tapered headset.
They better come with a decent warranty policy...
just get a alex triple wall and be done.
even in MTB if im honest i'll take i9 system hydras alu over lets say carbon DTs
I don’t think those carbon rims would last very long street riding there be best suited for dirt and bowl riding I would only run one on the front not on the back
Seems they took some decent street abuse tho. As for the front wheel only, that’s what I’m running currently.
They’ll as strong if not stronger as alloy for general riding the problem you have is that they’re stiff and harsh and don’t absorb vibration as well so it’s almost like riding solid tyres and the rim doesn’t fold when you hang up on a coping or a ledge so it will ether rip the tyre as the rim instead of folding cuts through the tyre or the entire rim will shatter. What would normally be a simple job of straightening a dented alloy rim with a adjustable spanner would be buying a new tyre or rim with carbon wheels.
yo Fudger! heads up great job all around you do big fan. As a biker, riding all kinds of them still don't understand why cush core inserts are not the norm for street riders yet... You can lower the pressure a bit and def help out snake bite style flats. It just makes way too much sense to me. What do you think? Should I start a brand and make them available?
÷ :)
Prob due to the added rotational weight of foam inserts which would make a BMX bike less nimble, this is less of an issue in some disciplines of mtb where they are commonly used. Prob would still be a market for foam inserts for BMX tho
Thanks dude. I honestly had no idea what was even a thing haha. I’m not up on what other cycling worlds do, obviously….
@@buders2236 I wanna see the weight of a carbon rimmed wheel with a folding tire vs an alloy rimmed wheel with a inner tube and standard sidewalls...would also like to see the rotational weight difference. Lace em with the same hub and the same alloy and gauge spokes/nipples. Can almost guarantee you'll see the carbon/cushcore wheel not only weigh less, but also outperform the alloy rim in terms of durability. Carbon fiber tech has come a long fucking way since Spin rims. Hell, there are some snowboard bindings that use what's called "forged carbon fiber" in their high backs and that shit is brutally tough...even in
Fucking do it. Should make it out of a slightly sitffer material though and they should probably be made to match specific rim profiles to reduce the chance of it rolling over when pressure is applied from the side.
