    I am not sure you can say over priced. Do you know their cost to produce? The profit margin might be the same or even less on Carbon fiber than traditional rims. Too expensive defiantly, but over priced implies they are gouging the customers and I don't think that's fair to say without all the data. Love your videos!

    Kevlar/folding bead tires would save you the same or more rotational weight at 1/8th of the extra expense.

      Carbon rims don't bend. They go out of true only. They simply explode or Crack or break when they break.

    I’ve heard the Carbonic’s are awesome and even handle bashes somewhat well. But I’m fine with the Odyssey Stage 2 or quadrants that I have. I might upgrade to 7ka or Hazard Lites or Possibly the Birdcage’s from GSport. What do you think out of these options would be best bang for the buck? I was leaning more towards Hazards because they have more layers but are about the same weight as 7ka. But also come in chrome

    Just under a pound is a pretty bad way to say almost a quarter pound lighter than already light street rims for each rim.
    Birdcage 15.5 ounces. Or vandals.
    Birdcages aren't intended for heavy street. I have 2 on my bike right now.
    Carbonic are supposedly rated for heavy street.
    Stiffness is also affected. Which helps us with pumping. They're already about 2 ounces lighter than already weenie rims not intended for the same level of riding so even worst case they still cut a quarter pound of rotational weight.
    Compared to other street rims. That are 16 to 19 ounces. It can be anywhere from 6 to 12 ounces.
    They are expensive. But also supposed to last longer then alloy rims. On the caveat that they probably aren't a smart choice for grinding rough concrete or running uber low pressure in your tires. They're for people who already run folding tires where you don't wanna go below like maybe 50 to 70 at the lowest anyways.

      This is something thst boggles my mind! If the Carbonic was Eclats super light rim then ok yeah, but they offer the E440! They're barely any heavier!
      I get if you want to just blow the money you earned & don't care if you break them, you can replace them but how many of us can do that!?

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 Рік тому

      @Pirate_Duck you realize that just likely means the alloy rims need to be replaced more often given carbon is stronger per gram when done properly. It just has certain issues.
      Ride these for park and done run pegs they'll likely last forever. With khe fron 2.3 and certain skinnier rear tires. Plus tubolitos. Ti spokes or the now possible berd bmx spokes and alloy nipples. You can get a wheelset down to 6 pounds or less. With tires and tubes. Light frame fork bars and cranks. Plus stem sprocket and chain. And your bike is mad light. Easily sub 20 even with brakes. On odyssey fork and cranks. Or s&m. Plus some we the people bars or any bars around 2 pounds.
      And yet they're supposedly strong enough for street. Run some mirage tires or demo momentum tires. Or maxxis grifters. Throw a colon folding rear on 2.2 at 17 ounces. Tubolitos. Planetary coaster hub and any decent front hub. Butted spokes and brass nipples.
      You can have a stronger wheelset that's lighter than anything even close.

      @@bmxriderforlife1234 This whole discussion is subjective though. Carbon Fibre can chip, the weave can split & if that happens in one go? Then it will explode.
      It's like saying a Titanium Frame is worth every penny. Problem is Ti is Lighter & whilst yes, technically under perfect circumstances is stronger per weight unit. Titanium fails spectacularly! There's rarely any cracks or even a hint that it's F'D until it completely fails. That being said for some applications like Crank Spindles? Easily worth the extra money! Frames, Forks, Bars Crank Arms, Smaller OD Bolts? Any high stress area of a bike? The pro riders that have these fully decked out Titanium & Carbon Fibre Builds retire parts every contest circuit or legit half a year tops. The average BMX rider doesn't have 6-7 Grand to spend on a bike & IF they do manage to get that kinda money saved up? I don't think many riders out there are expecting for their own safety they'll need to be spending that kind of money twice a year or if they really want to chance injury once a year!?
      As much as Eclat is one of my favourite Brands, I literally have a full WTP/Eclat Build based around a Doomsayer. I very nearly got the Carbonic Rims it was only when I noticed even the Eclat Team Riders had swapped off them that I decided I'll just stick to the E440's.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234

      @@pirate_duck4985 actually most ti frames are built like chromo frames. And ti is only 40 percent lighter at best then chromo per same strength. But most people don't just cut 40 percent of the weight off the frame. You also have to account for flex issues.
      If you went about half a pound heavier then most people do on ti frames you'd likely see alot less issues. And further more the best steels actually beat titanium and strength per gram.
      Reynolds 953 for example.
      Yes I know about the carbon issues. That'd about the risky part of it. You'd likely want some fairly durable tires and high tore pressure. And grinds idk especially on anything rough. However 2.4s also help reduce rim hits. And eclat had their team on them includes dudes known to murk rims. And other riders used them on clips after destroying their normal alloy Rims and had the carbonics hold up fine.
      There is a sweet spot. 16 ounces is about as light as you can go with an alloy rim before you give up strength. And usually needs to be 7000 series or another better alloy, vandals use g2 or whatever which is 6000 series but with a better heattreatment aging process.
      Carbon gets you to that sweet spot where you can have a race rim weight with enough strength for a street rim. Albeit given cost you may want to make some considerations about potential causes of damage.
      But they aren't as dumb or overpriced as people seem to think. And hilarious most rims these days are only basic 6000 series. And some of the 7000 series or other better alloy options are older designs or weenie designs.
      I murdered a birdcage real quick. E440 or vandals probably hold up better. But how much better. And still like a qp heavier for the rim set. And the second further rotating portion of your wheel.
      It let's you run better tires and still get within khe and weenie rims set up. While having stronger rims and more durable tires.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 Рік тому

      Deffs won't hold up rear. And the x lace is like 19 ounces. A birdcage is lighter.
      Also people used to murk 7000 series rims. Most modern rims are only 6000 series. Versus we already know good carbon rims can out strength alloy rims in the mtb world. The only issue is they do still fail in a rather sketchy way when they do fail
      But so do most weenie rims.
