I''d like to add about Shadow Namatame. Is that is boss design is also foreshadowing to the fact that he's not in control, his appearance literally that of a windup toy puppet. The anime even shows him having a coocooclock in his apartment. The implications is that the halo gears circling his head are controlling him is also interesting to note how there two gears, a cog inside of a cog. A possible nod to how adachi "wound up" namatame, and he himself was influenced by izanami. Another bit I'd like to add is how Namatame is meant to force the investigation team to reflect on their true motives. Are they seeking out the truth to do what's right, or are they just playing savoir for their own betterment? After all, Namatames goals for putting people in the TV are complete identical to the investigation teams. And the boss even has you fight your own teammates to invoke self reflection. Funnily enough, shortly after this boss you do have to fight you own team to convince them not to kill Namatame making you face what this investigation is really about. I think the fact that Namatmae is a scandalized politician is also relevant. He truly is the towns representative embodiment to gossip and live in blissful vendictiveness. His survival is dependant on whether the team can rise above that.
I will be talking about Namatame from a few different angles in the Story analysis and Nanako analysis. The coocoo clock stuff with the anime is cool and a neat addition- generally though I don't take the anime into account when analyzing the game though due to it consistently mischaracterizing, contradicting, or reordering events from the game in ways that significantly change the understanding of P4 being viewed in any consistent way.

The Ameno Sagiri in depth analysis was super dope really loved to learn about it in a more detailed way. The family tree was extremely interesting to look at along side the explanation.
Creating and rendering a family tree in a 3d space in my editor was so time consuming but probably the most fun part of thus segment. Just having a detailed account was nice. Especially including Kanji, Rise and Naoto on the last zoom out

Idk if it was intentional, but the Sagiri parallels the father sky and mother earth archetype that commonly appears in other mythologies. Sky representing order/masculinity and earth representing chaos/femininity. Which is probably why Izanami seems androgynous, at first appearing as a male gas station attendant and later as a goddess. But Izanami isn't perfect because she is only a part of Marie, and she herself is one half of the whole (Izanagi being her male counterpart). So her incarnations (The Sagiri) end up being distorted since Izanami is incomplete. At the end Marie becomes the complete female archetype, and the protag is the male archetype. dunno if this makes sense

I really like this video, definitely the best analysis of the Sagiris. Something else I think is interesting is the fact that it's implied that Teddie's shadow was related to / controlled by Ameno Sagiri, is there anything you could add on to that?
Thanks! And yeah if you couldn't tell by the blacked out character in the family tree chart, I have some more to say about that with Teddie. It will be in Teddie's full segment! - I don't exactly agree with the current theory but I think I figured out what the game was going for
Another informative video! I knew nothing about the mythology and genealogy behind these bosses so it was cool to finally learn about that. Keep up the great work man!
I had a lot of fun making the family tree! Glad it was informative. The drier segments likes these I'm afraid may be less interesting for some but for me I loved researching and learning about these things. I'm extremely excited to have the story/mythology video drop eventually
I also find that weird. Maybe because they thought people would get closer to Japanese pronunciation if they foregoed the space? Or maybe they thought the no would cause question and wanted a first name last name structure? Idk
The eye always have remind me to the "Big Brother" show. I would say that is pretty accurate: everything is a show made by the Gods who are enjoying it and watching which "contestant" will be the winner.
Man I'm 9 months late. Just beat the game. Think it's possible Ame no Sagiri would make a return? Just the last few things it said while it was clearing the fog from the town. Just sounds like if people wish for it, it'll come back.

Its always great to see mythological representation and interpretations thematically represented in stories of all kinds, its one of the reasons why I gravitate towards Shin Megami Tensei so much, and while Persona uses these interpretations to explore psychology over morality, that doesn't make the Gods of the Persona series any less relevant to the themes of mainline, and the parallels in how the negatives and positives of each alignment echo human nature are worth recognizing. The "Ignorance is Bliss" mindset is a recurring abstract antagonist in Persona 3, 4, and 5, and is often one of the biggest detriments to the Law Alignment where the truth is hidden and others do the thinking for the masses.
Hiding in Private, you know what? UA-camr, "LadyRainOfSorrow" would be most intrigued by this video for a couple reasons. She did an entire 260-part video documentary of Persona 4 between September 2012 thru April 2013. And when Izanami revealed herself, LadyRainOfSorrow had briefly mentioned how she has studied about the legend between Izanami and Izanagi. Plus I'm forever indebted to her for making me REALLY appreciate Persona 4 which is the most personal video game to me as well! Along with having numerous awesome musical soundtracks throughout the game, I even came up with quite a unique Japanese name for my protagonist character--> "Chokoshi Yakafuki" !
When you said she made a documentary I was sweating a bit - I thought maybe a thorough analysis of p4g had existed all along and all my word was un-needed lol. Seeing it's a let's play now I feel a bit more at ease but wow! For her Suze and you to be such a big fan so many years later makes me wonder what sort of person she was to create such passion. Maybe I'll listen to a fee parts. Also how would you write your protag's name in Japanese?
@@HidinginPrivate oh no, no, no! LadyRainOfSorrow was recording her entire playthrough and posting it online for her channel as well as her fans to enjoy watching her gaming videos. I always thought they were just extra gods like in a hierarchy that watched humanity and brought judgement depending on what humans wished but never really understood everything about them
Those will be dropping in a bit over a month I think. The izanami one is more or less tied into the story analysis video, although some parts of her are discussed elsewhere. The Marie video is 25min though and coming!
Besides feeling dumb in not realizing that Magatsu Inaba was floating over the real Inaba this whole time 🤦🏾♂️, I enjoyed every second of this analysis! All your videos give great insight ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! It doesn't always show but I spent a lot of time researching and consulting japanese forums to see what people were thinking over the last 10 years
Great vid, if you have any other closely/directly related vids in the series putting them at the ending title card or within the vid at certain timestamps would help with following along with em all. I'm interested in watching more, subbed.
For now I've been adding a link to the playlist since many of the related parts aren't out yet but if I release a part that references a part that is already out I will link it properly! The broader mythology/story video should be out in less than 2 months!
Kuni no sagiri seems also a parody to new age/hippie/catholic religion mindset with the all "make peace and love, not war", more passivist mindset. While the Teddie's shadow/ame no sagiri have a more an atheist/nihilist approach, "there is no truth.". Both end up being, two sides of "Ignorance is bliss" not seeking the Truth.
@@HidinginPrivate Read my comment...😏 I never said they were. You used mythos/lore to explained what they are meant to represent, I instead, I'm using what is said in the game. Teddie's is a shadow that gained a sense of ego and mastered his own inner fears. Naoto made a reference to that, what came first in regards of Teddie's human form/Persona. When Teddie's shadow appeared the speech is similar to Ame no sagiri, the all embrace nihilism, ignorance is bliss, embrace the fog. While in Smt, we may fight Gods/Demons, in Persona is assumed that those aren't actual gods, but representation of them, avatar, people's perception of Death, Truth/Blissful ignorance and being controlled like 🐏🐑 in P5. Meaning, if Izanami wasn't the actual goddess, but an avatar created by Collective Unconsciousness of people, the sagiri and Marie and Teddie are creations of that Collective Unconsciousness, unlike the human cast and mc. Ps: Even Marie in her boss battle mentions her purpose and Izanami explained what's Midnight Channel and Tv World. Reminded me of what Bilbo said. "I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." - Bilbo Baggins. "My world is a place shaped by human thoughts..." TEDDIE lol And Izanami created a window to that world, thus the Midnight Channel. Even Chie mentions how shadows are similar to things that we saw in tv, because we grew up watching to much tv.
I love Strange Journey but unfortunately it has led to this false stereotype of Law (probably due to most people not really playing the Law route) that it rids you of your capability for free will as seen here, despite Chaos doing the same in that game.
In smt3 the most "law" route (hikawa) also robs everyone of free will. Smt4 also has Jonathon and the rest abandon their free will to become vessels of YHWH. It's a fairly common portrayal in the SMT games.
@@HidinginPrivate SMT3 doesn't have the typical alignments, which is shown by who goes for what. Hikawa, who you pitted as Law was the leader of the Gaea cult, while its noted that the Great Will (who is the actual Almighty) according to Kagutsuchi chose the freedom ending before and the angels chose the Reason of Yosuga. As for SMT4 Jonathan merged with the other arch angels to become Merkabah, (which isn't one of the avatars just another more powerful angel) something that Chaos does with their heroes all the time and just like with Chaos Jonathan has to be willing to do the merger. Heck YHVH doesn't make a single actual appearance in SMT4 and the Law route explicitly ends with the kingdom of Mikado ruling themselves and at peace. A far cry from people being brainwashed to go up to their roofs and do nothing but worship Shenkiah.
did i miss the izanami fight because i did the marie ending or can you fight both? I mean i think i remember playing original ps2 persona 4 and fighting izanami but not in golden?
@HidinginPrivate Ah I gotcha I think I missed Izanami somehow while focusing on Marie's if that makes sense? I still had fun and probably will do a new game plus later. Also awesome videos I love the detail involved.

Besides feeling dumb in not realizing that Magatsu Inaba was floating over the real Inaba this whole time 🤦🏾♂️, I enjoyed every second of this analysis! All your videos give great insight ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks! It doesn't always show but I spent a lot of time researching and consulting japanese forums to see what people were thinking over the last 10 years
i love your videos best boy, you're doing amazing~~
Oowaaaooowaaaa 😭🤧🤒😷😖
uh.. nice party and outfits you got there.
Lol I do have a reason for the outfits and it's explained in another segment haha. You're actually the first to mention it
@@HidinginPrivate in all seriousness great series
I hope this guy got his PhD from all these video essays. Some deep thought into some of them. ❤
I love this series so much
I'm glad!
That TOTALLY makes sense.
Izanagi-Okanami-no-Picaro
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching! (And engaging)
Teddie's shadow is not Ame no Sagiri
@@HidinginPrivate
Read my comment...😏
I never said they were.
"My world is a place shaped by human thoughts..." TEDDIE lol
And Izanami created a window to that world, thus the Midnight Channel. Even Chie mentions how shadows are similar to things that we saw in tv, because we grew up watching to much tv.
Ooohh, so this is not jet in your persona 4 playlist, by the way love your persona 4 conntent.
Nice work, that's all I have to say.
Thanks!

@@HidinginPrivate
SMT3 doesn't have the typical alignments, which is shown by who goes for what.
Both. Izanami is the final boss. Marie's dungeon is optional unless you want the true ending but it is before izanami
@HidinginPrivate Ah I gotcha I think I missed Izanami somehow while focusing on Marie's if that makes sense? I still had fun and probably will do a new game plus later. Also awesome videos I love the detail involved.
more japanese mithology in p4g videos! yay!
Indeed! We haven't gotten enough of those segments yet!
are you philemon
