The Difficulty In Making a Battle-Damaged TIE Fighter
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 чер 2024
- In the realm of studio-scale Star Wars miniatures, modelmakers have successfully replicated many of the iconic starfighters and ships from the original Star Wars trilogy. But there are some models with elusive details that make for more challenging builds. Modelmaker Jason Eaton walks us through two such projects: a battle-damaged TIE Fighter from The Empire Strikes Back's asteroid belt chase sequence and a Rebel transport ship!

Adam, good sir. Could you maybe do a test and see if a Lexus SUV can reach 24mph in 60 feet. Also test if it could launch a 217lb man 30 feet. Also test if the bones in a human arm could break a taillight without breaking themselves. The world will thank you.
The true difficulty is that TIE fighters only come in two versions: Perfectly fine and totally destroyed....by being sneezed on.
The only damaged TIEs are those that are in the process of exploding! 😂
Norm is the perfect person for these types of videos.
He's come so far as an interviewer since the early days of this channel. Takes a lot of practice and hard work to get to this level
i used to watch mythbusters with my papa growing up he sense passed im 23 now ! still watching
Oh okay there is nothing unique about that
@@HuskerPower97maybe not, but we can all relate, and it's the sense of camaraderie that Adam Savage and Mythbusters inspire in us all that unites us together in a meaningful way, and that's what matters :-)
@@brandongaines1731 so again nothing unique.
@@HuskerPower97 my point is, that's not the point
@@brandongaines1731 my point is that it's not unique
Whenever I see this intro I am left absolutely flabbergasted that Alita: Battle Angel has a fan base.
The quality on this plastic panel is awesome 🤗. Please bring us more deep in detail into the conception. It's remember Adam AT-AT Walker garage tour.
I really love seeing the videos from this show. Stunning stuff.
The actual difficulty should be because ties are one hit kills. I dont recall ties taking more than one hit 😂
Unless they were Darth Vader's TIE, they usually ended up in an explosion of pieces.😂😂😂
SO, so damn cool
I never get tired of looking at the beauty and precision of these models, thank you, Norm and Jason!❤❤❤
A battle-damaged TIE Fighter is a rarity indeed. Usually, they blow right up from the slightest hit because of thin armor and no shields.
How about the SNAFU Selection for the entire collection of badges?
Genuinely curious. What are these modles for? Are they just hobby creation or used for props or what?
Hobby. For the enjoyment of the builder. Some builder try to recreate the prop. For instance the tie fighter is actual size to what the studio would have used for filming.
The “Colonial Movers” on his website! Ha‼️
Regarding naming the entire demerit badge collection, how about calling it the "OH, SH!T! Demerit Badge Collection"?
Always great to see Norm. I miss the more ensemble approach to Tested videos back in the day
Great video norm sir
Are those like 3 railway gun carriages chassis in the centre?
Also see a Gepard turret at 4:03, lovely to see those greebly parts in detail
@@BillKermanKSPYES! I spotted that too! The radar mount is pretty recognizable.
Adam Savage for the win!
The ANH Falcon doesn't exist anymore?! What happened to it?
The FUBAR bundle.
The problem I have with weathering and battle damage from hobbyists is that almost everyone adds it where they think it LOOKS good, but it's unrealistic and subconsciously tells you it's all fake - there's not a lot of thought process and picturing an actual scenario for it like a movie set would.
There'll be worn areas on a gun deep in a crevice to "bring out the detail" where there's no actual chance it could be knocked from wear and tear. Take this tie-fighter (I realize this guy says he took it from reference photos)... Sure the damage looks cool, but HOW could the tip of a wing curl out from damage without the actual wing itself being bent or blown off? The force to cause that damage would have taken the wing off or at least out of parallel but apparently it's perfect. These guys need to get experience in a car body shop to see how things are damaged and torn and misaligned.
You need to look deeper at the dudes who kitbash/scratch build models of old battle damage WW 2 photos then but i can't say if any of them have had experience of near death in war lol
Agree that a high amount of hobbyist models have weathering that is too much, unbelievable, etc. What I am not sure about is: what looks good on _film_ , especially the 35mm film stock used in a lot of those movies. Maybe it takes a lot of weathering, more intense colors, etc. in order to look good under bright lights, with motion blur, film grain, etc.
So, IF the hobbyist is trying to make a _filming model_ and the above is true, that could explain what we see.
I don’t make models or props or costumes , but if I did, I would be faced with answering a lot of questions for myself, before undertaking the task. Because I enjoy films more than film making, I’d probably prefer the “how it looks on screen” appearance (then there’s the rabbit hole of _what sort of screen_ ? Silver, HD Samsung TV, iPad, cathode ray tube…).
My favorite thing to experience regarding replica _or real_ props, models, costumes, is when I look at it and think, “I can’t tell if the weathering is from genuine damage from use or not.” There’s a palpable sense of reality with well made movie items. Creating that sense is an art form, in my opinion.
For something like a TIE fighter, I'm cool with it being a bit fantastical and who knows, maybe it's blown apart like that because some blaster bolts hit the radiators and caused a steam explosion on the wing there. And if there's reference for how the damage should look based on the film version than the blame lies with the people who made the original.
I do agree however moreso for actual scale models of tanks and aircraft, will sometimes see people add smoke/oil/rust/wear in places it should never have been. One case in point for a model I'm researching now is people putting exhaust trails on the wing vents of a B-17 when those are air vents from the radiators and would if anything be leaving trails of 'clear' metal where burnt oil from the engine would otherwise be coating the wing except where the hot air from the vents pushes it away.
What I want my tomb to be like.
I spy... Forbush Man!
To be fair, I think it's also difficult in universe to have a battledamaged TIE. 😀
Ah, a Lotus 78 chassis piece...
The lost an eyebrow bundle?
i love your channel
Hellooool
❤❤❤
The OT aesthetics are unmatched. The design of the prequels was lame and inappropriate, the sequels were tired copies or modified in a clichéd way.
So many 3k-9k frequencies in the opening music scene. I don't know. Namastè.
Anyone from 2038 😢 Double tap to like 😅
Oh wow. That was so long ago, I can hardly remember it! Amazing how long these videos stay up with their comments intact.
Misleading title. 75% this video is not about the TIE. I also don't like the feel of these types of videos, seems like paid content...
Not sure how it feels like paid content. I was there, Norm asked the modelers if he can film them. Nobody pays these guys to travel to Kentucky and to be featured on TESTED is amazing.
The whole bouquet (of oopsie daisies).
