Lahaina Maui Hawaii before the Fires : Walking and Talking Tour in 4K
We are devastated by the Fires in Lahaina Maui Hawaii. We wanted to keep the memory of this old town Lahaina by uploading our Driving Front Street during Sunset that we did last month. We visited this small town Early July and walked up and down Front Street and enjoyed the sunset.

The SUNSET Driving Tour of Lahaina Maui is here!
It's like the 9/11 of Maui. I've been visiting Maui for 20+ years. I was walking Front St. in May, just a few months ago. I will miss this place. So heartbreaking 💔😫😔
Yeah man I’m there same as you.
I can’t believe this. I’m coming back in about 9 months and I’m bringing cash and my helping hands with me and I’m not relaxing there until they can too.
My next trip is about getting some work done along side my Maui Ohana
9/11 of Maui is exactly correct!!!!! And same evil people intentionally did this too!!! 9/11 wasn’t an accident. Nor was Paradise City CA fires. This was an act of terrorism to our land and our people. Nothing about this fire was natural 😢
@@colecarrabello3504Thank ❤️ You so much for your love & kindness. Good 🍀 Luck and safety on your trip.🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦
Had only been through there and stayed at a Kaanapoli Coast hotel some 30 years ago. It looks like there was a lot of growth since then. I remember that area near and around the Old Banyan Tree, the boat docks and all the activity on Front St. Am just in shock at the horrific devastation and loss of life. My condolences and prayers to all who were affected by this terrible fire.
With all due respect, we shouldn't compare an act of hate that killed 3000 people to an act of nature.
This video is a treasure! Of all the tragedies on the news this one is the hardest one for me to watch. All my memories are there growing up. I left to Alaska in 1984. This is shocking. This is the best I will ever get to see again. God be with you all. Prayers with them all and the help they receive.
Thank you! Here is the SUNSET Video of Lahaina ua-cam.com/video/88aLkRIWCH4/v-deo.html
I am lucky to live in the 21st century and be able to see on camera all the places I will never have enough money to visit thank you for sharing your experience

Great video! was there 10 years ago, loved it! can't believe it's all gone:( It will NEVER BE THE SAME!!!!!

NO it Won't be the same if the 👹 has IT'S way! 🖤🖤🖤
We were supposed to be there last August 8 and have booked a car to drive around on August 9. I had an appointment on August 9 that I can;t miss, so, we moved our trip supposedly next week (eventually postponed til next year). My heart goes to the people who lost everything and for those who have lost their loved ones. Thanks for this video, I got to see Lahaina.
It’s all gone 😢💔 I have fond memories of Lahaina. I’m from Moloka’i just west from Maui. From the beach I could see the flames 🔥 After I got out of high school I’d catch a ferry ⛴️ boat to Lahaina to enjoy the food night clubs & the people. It’ll never be the same ❤
I really miss this beautiful and cozy town.
I suddenly realize how important what we have lost.
My heart goes out to you.😢
We went to Maui and stayed in Lahaina 7 of our 8 visits... but it was just before we were vlogging like we do now... thank you for sharing this. Our hearts go out to the people of Maui who have lost family, pets, friends, homes, businesses and jobs. It's crushing. We hope the spirt of Aloha will help heal Maui.

Very eerie hearing “Set fire to the rain” playing in the background.😢

Lahaina is more famous. But i did one of these for a city in my state "Detroit Lake" which completely burnt down also. Very sad but these videos are important for memory.
Thank you for sharing this view of the paradise lost. For those of us who have never visited, it is an exclamation mark on that loss!

The place looked so nice, thanks for no crappy music.

Wow, it is so big and compacted. What an incredible loss.
To all the people of Hawaii, my sincere condolences of the devastating loss of loved ones, homes & the beautiful wild Animals who couldn't make it out.😢

Thank you for sharing this video of Lahaina before the fire. My heart is breaking for the people who lost their lives, home and family businesses gone forever, historical treasures gone. Peace to all of you in Maui ❤

In 1979 at 20 years old went to Maui for vacation with a friend, spent much time in beautiful LaHaina - Primo Beer, Maui Wowie, and Mai Tai's for days and some of the nicest people on the planet, needless to say we had alot of fun- what a devasting ending, unbelievable
I walked and drove done Front. St. In February. This is so hard to comprehend. I feel so bad for everyone there. They're such great people.
I lived in Lahaina for two years. I am absolutely devastated and heart broken!
Mahalo ! You take me back to beautiful Lahaina and I can feel nostalgic about there. My heart goes out to Maui .
Thank you! Check out the Sunset Tour of Lahaina ua-cam.com/video/88aLkRIWCH4/v-deo.html
Thank you for your memories.
I hope and pray it gets built just like it was. No giant Waikiki style hotels are needed in Lahaina
I agree, no crazy hotels and giant crowded spots
i hope people on the island find and share mercy.
Amen 🙏🏼 Thank you
Es una tristeza lo sucedido, nuestro más sentido pésame con mucho cariño para todos desde la ciudad de México, pensamos ir en Septiembre y nos perderemos esa belleza
Dined at Longhi's and Bubba Gump's before they were closed down. Great memories, hope they rebuilt it even better than before.
What once was so beautiful. I'm sure lahaina will bounce back from this may not be the same but I'm sure recovery will happen.
I would hope that nothing is allowed to be built/rebuilt within 300 yards of distance from the beach. To allow for a park area in between the beach & city. Any structure needed within the 300 yards, should only be built below the terrain surface. The marina should be placed Inland like the Marassi Marina Infrastructure networks in North Coast, Egypt. The old buildings are gone, now there's an opportunity to recreate the coastline of the city back into the Hawaii paradise it was before humans covered the beach in concrete & asphalt.
They need more parking. The only reason we didn't stop was because we couldn't find a place and my mother had a hard time with long walks, so we kept driving, trying to take in the sights. It was beautiful but congested at the time. Lots of people and activity going on.
Thank you for sharing this for posterity.
i see fire hydrants, were those not working during the fires?...very sad surrounded by water and can't use it.
1:32 - To my surprise, the Lahaina Cannery Center (on the left) is still standing, even though things on either side of it were burned down to the shoreline. 3:21 - I saw a photo of the Methodist Church on the left. The only things remaining are the stone foundation pillars and the cement steps in front. Everything else was reduced to ashes. 5:49 - The Lahaina Store building on the left, built in 1916, is one of the few things still standing here. Since it's concrete it survived, although the interior was destroyed. It's one of the few structures that might be possible to save and revive.
Thank you! Here is the SUNSET VIDEO of Lahaina ua-cam.com/video/88aLkRIWCH4/v-deo.html
I remember the beautiful older Catholic Church a couple miles from Front Street. I hope it was saved. The Hard Rock Cafe I am sure is gone such a nice big front porch. Went to luau at 505 Front Street.
Amazingly, the Catholic church survived. @@billfunk3168

We were there during our honeymoon... now its all gone .... so heartbroken
Thank you for the video. I can see how it could all burn and spread so well in a firestorm. Cheap little high density tinderboxes for tourists. All about profit with little thought of surviving fire.
Us not-so -smart humans should look at communities elsewhere and build more wisely.
They should bulldoze the debris away and give the entire island back to the natives IMO.

I appreciate this video. I have never been there, but it looks like the kind of place I would have really enjoyed. I am not a fan of overdevelopment. A great and tragic loss in every way.

With what happened recently it’s actually eerie to hear Addels song of all tunes to be one of the only prominent songs or sound of anything you hear in the video background noise.
Yep. Caught that, and I remember that particular area. How ironic.
@@gayle9428 other than the country itself being USA it is related to I otherwise never had been to any of Hawaii and really loving the movie LILO and Stitch for non related reasons but upon further looking into of this situation it sucks for everyone and everything involved because they definitely didn’t have anywhere else to go at on the main lands you could flee to other cities or states not this one though the island it happened was actually a lot bigger than thought because before I always thought they were since they are all quite literally in the middle of nowhere with oceans from miles around.
Wakiki Beach has the same kindling all through its infrastructure.
All good things come to an end
What an all original- no name brand -beautiful little sea town !!
BUT I’d like to know WHY people aren’t getting the supplies that have been sent !! A woman said that babies at the shelter have been in the same diapers since Thursday and some people haven’t eaten since then either !!! WHERE do I send those items RIGHT NOW and how to make sure the babies/people in need get them ?!?!?!?!?

So sad to see the detestation that happened to this amazing g place
The sign said "Jesus Coming Soon." WOW, how prophetic.
I know, right?
I was once told to go to Kauai instead of Maui because Maui is too touristy. After seeing this video, I see what he meant. Far too many buildings and too many people for my liking. Now had I known all of this would be burned to the ground a few years later, I would've vacationed in Maui instead to experience the history before it was wiped away.
Had it rained recently? The roads look wet.
I see horrible narrow roads ...they should have buried those utility poles a couple of decades ago ....should have made those resorts and hotels pay for the upgrades to the infrastructure if they were going to bring that much traffic and tax revenue in

Now looking at all those telephone cable power lines on the streets is eerie.. knowing that is what caused the fires once they went down 😔
Hard to watch. I can only imagine being a Red Cross worker making my first trip to Hawaii, for this. Be safe. Peace.

How did the one hotel Lahaina manage to not burn to the ground?
Direct Energy Weapons. This fire was not natural.

Interesting
All those old beautiful buildings made of wood turned out to provide plenty of fuel for the fire....so so tragic. Rebuilding efforts may have to offer different materials....nature is way too powerful for man. My prayers go out to all the people of Maui.
If you've seen the many photos and videos of the 40+ abandoned, incinerated cars on Front Street after the fire, in this video this stretch goes from 3:28 to the intersection at 4:03.
So Sad..
It was nice! Wow! I wish I could live in a place like this. I am sure the other half of the island is beautiful too...but I can't afford to live there. For natives, but mostly rich White folk... the natives can't afford to live there either and are moving to Las Vegas. Hawaii will become a place only for rich White folk.
Wake up people!
Exactly!!!! This was not a natural wild fire
are you saying all this is gone
Yes. However, I just heard on the news that the large Banyan tree (at about 7:45) still has sap in it, so there is hope.
It is
That is truly amazing since the palace in front of it is destroyed.

Never was there it looks like Mexico
It's a Hawaiian town
Good place to retire, nice one bedroom apartment $300/ month, lobster and steak in restaurant overlooking the ocean for $15, beer $2 a bottle.
more like $300 a day! I would love to retire there but I can't afford to! I love the sea, beach, the ocean, my favorite color is blue and all shades of it.
ps..I just saw a YT videos about the prices...it is $10 for a gallon of milk..The locals can no longer afford to live there and are moving to Las Vegas. They resent all the rich White folk that buy land and build huge homes that are gated. They raised the property prices that they can't afford to buy a property for a young local family. They feel they are being forced out. They have a big community in Las Vegas. Hawaii will become the place for only rich white folk from mostly California. They received fantastic pensions. A firefighter receives over $100k a year as a pension. California caused the real estate crisis a few years ago.
@@Dan-xx5jq - Sad. And that's happening in many states now. The middle and low income are barely making it or are forced to move out of long-time homes because the cost to rent or buy is way outpacing wages.
If you love Hawaii don't come here to vacation. Tourists still wanna enjoy our beaches while there's 1,000 still missing and bodies still floating in the ocean. STAY HOME
AMEN 🙏🏼 Maui is closed
Assuming you mean Maui as rest of Hawaii is undamaged and needs tourism industry
Yes, give to help if you can and stay home for now.
all the Hawaiian island are connected and impacted by what happens. Yes it would be better if tourists stayed home period or go somewhere else.r@@williamlloyd3769

30. But the day of the Lord will come LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 1 Peter 3.10 - 12
Rather quaint and low class buildings. All wood alas.
Low class? Simple rustic structures of wood were an organic ideal for a coastal town.
Lahaina folk used to say it was the best place in the world to live. Most of the historic district was wood. That's is typical.

I can’t give a like because it’s sad but true
As a warning to humanity: Lahaina is how cities around the world would end up looking like following a nuclear war. Governments are incompetent and do not protect any of us. The shear negligence that allowed this fire to happen and spread out of control to destroy the entire town is sickening.
It was intentionally set. This was not a “wild” “fire”, nor was Paradise City

I am beyond devastated.
I’m sorry this planet is cruel. To the people of Maui, and Lahaina and all of Hawaii. Nobodies culture is as interesting and cool as yours.
Maui has been a part of my life for over two decades. Not my home. But a second one.
I’m worried about a friend of mine who lived there, grew up there. His whole family was generations deep in Lahaina.
I’m thinking about you, people of Maui. Especially the natives that lost things that have been in their families for GENERATIONS. I’m coming back in 9 months, and I’m bringing donations and I’m going to get my hands dirty with all of you. I’ll be there, and I’ll see you all soon.
I went over there and taught a bunch of “Pineapples” how to build houses, years ago, for my friend “Butch Holt”. They will recover from this, I hope they “keep it small”. DKS! (And deport the ones who will choose to build sky scrapers, and destroy “a way of life that still exists there”.) “Good luck to all of you survivors”, if you need help, “we will be there, “again”!
Much better.
