Last view of Lahaina before Fire - Visit to Lanai by Ferry
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 сер 2023
- A walk through Lahaina on August 3rd, 2023: just days before it was destroyed by fire, while catching a ferry from the harbor to Lanai. See Lahaina's great banyan tree which sadly is no more (actually, have heard it might recover!). A visit to the remote island of Lanai by ferry from the port at Lahaina, Maui, (the port has now been wrecked by the blaze). On Lanai, see Lanai City, the island's relaxed and peaceful main urban center and watering hole.
What a beautiful place it was. This video will be so important to a lot of people who want to remember how it used to be. My heart hurts for those of you who suffered through the fire.
❤ 💯 ❤

Love and Prayers to all through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ ❤
Just about one week before the fire my wife asked me “Hey Honey, what do you think of going back to Lahaina for our 25th anniversary”? (We spent our honeymoon there in 2000) she was planning ahead 2 years. I said “Cool-Yes”!!!
@@badapple65Well, at least there's lots of other options. Wherever you may go instead, have loads of fun!
I feel sorry for all the ones that have lost their lives, including all family, pets and wild animals ,
My condolences to all who lost family and friends
May God see you all through this
As I read this, news reports the loss of life almost at 100, but with still maybe a thousand still unsearched buildings in the town that have been destroyed. I am grieving for them, who did not get out and that we may learn of soon.
I agree with your sentiments
It is heartbreaking to see the devastation with so many lives lost. Humans and animals have suffered so much.
You did a really good job here. So sad that the town no longer exists. Glad you were able to capture the beauty of it all before the devastation.
I appreciate the compliment! Quite saddened that I will no longer be able to visit there again. I was staying in Kahana/Papakea which I hear survived. That and the Kaanapali area may still be a place where visitors can go and see again some time.
1/2 the town is still intact! They weren’t able to burn it ALL down...
Who is 'they weren't able to burn it all down'.?
@@iakshimithambyraja6614 Oh just don't even ask these people. gah! Ignorant conspiracy people think laser weapons did all this on purpose. ffs!
@@iakshimithambyraja6614If “they” didn’t burn it down, It was still a failure in response by how long it took to react to what was happening. Inexcusable..
I will never forget being in the shops in Lahaina by the water and looking over to Lanai. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I am so sorry for such a loss, and I send love and good wishes to all of the people who were so devastated by this fire.
Thank you for posting this. My daughter is among the many who lost her home and belongings to the fire. Someday when she is over the shock of it all and back on her feet a little more, I will share it with her. Aloha🙏🏼💕✌️
Beautiful island. It's truly heartbreaking. 💔
Please ask your daughter if any residents have been allowed in; the “authorities” say no one has been allowed in except them but yet we see pictures of people on bikes and in flip flops wondering about? We are also advised that no drone footage is allowed and so forth and so on? Folks, nothing is as it seems and there seems to be “unsavory” characters attempting a “land grab” from Hawaiians, the governor and mayor are complicit, do your research!
yes. Greenville, California was Erased like this ,in "The Dixie Fire," and FRIEND L, HAD only what was in the car, as her parent's dear olde home, was totaled, as well. 900,00 acres burned. Luckily, I had a lot of pictures of my friends's MOM, and family house, and being there, in '96.. A great idea to take a Day Trip through little towns, and film. Also, a good idea to give dear friends copies of pictures, and photos of beloved things.
So sorry to learn about your daughter
It must be so devastating for her
I hope she receives help
Heart wrenching. All of it.
Thank you. I took a wonderful mother/daughter vacation there a few years ago. Mom has since passed away. I hold the people of Lahaina and Maui close to my heart and in my prayers.
So glad you had that trip oxoxoxox
What a paradise. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering from this tragedy.
Truly a paradise so peaceful and quiet. God bless the people of this beautiful island.
Just last September I was there. Walked those streets. Now, my heart breaks for Lahaina and all of Maui.
I love Maui. Lived at Kihei for a while some time ago. I am beyond sad that Lahaina is gone. I hope the banyan tree survives. So sorry for the people of Maui.
opra is sorry also lolsssss
Arborists are working on the tree. It has deep roots-- a good chance it will survive
I lived in Wailea many years ago as well.
@@kathymcmc I thought about moving over there BUT I will stay in beautiful santa barbara ca
This really shows how fragile and fleeting are our buildings, workplaces, cities and towns. Lahaina looked so beautiful, thank you for sharing this with us.
If there is anything positive to come out of this is these new buildings will be rebuilt stronger
Charm from days gone by, a reprieve from city madness, a walkable town that was scaled for humans not cars. I pray this town is able to rebuild back to quiet charm, but once the big guys get involved, well they don't have the same visions us peasants have, they want bigger and better stuff, bigger roads, bigger high-rises, wider this and taller that. This is a sad day for all, especially those that lost their lives. Thank you for the refreshing video. You're in our prayers Maui residents!
Lahaina was my grandparents favorite place in the world which is saying a lot for world travelers. They went to Hawaii 8 times. They brought me and two cousins in 2000. I have very fond memories of my time. My grandparents have since passed. Prayers to Maui!!
Lahaina was a beautiful town, praying for the loss of life.🙏 Hope Lahaina can be rebuilt as it was, before the fires. Lanai is beautiful. Such a sad, tragic time for all of Hawaii.🇬🇧
My cousin who lived in Honolulu
visited Maui many times and explained the awful road situation and how restricted the people were in terms of escaping.
especially a fire that travels a mile a minute.....
And I guarantee you, THEY knew. It's like buying a house, a car, if you inspect it long enough you will find things that would cause problems in the future and things that would not protect you and your family, like the roof. Think about what I'm saying here, just think.
Our friends took us on their boat, played a round of golf, had lunch then went fishing on the way back to Lahaina . Awesome day. So sorry for the beautiful locals on Maui :-(. Praying for you my brothers and sisters.
How I would love to walk down there just one more time. I LOVE Maui. I hope they can rebuild it with some of the character it had.
Yes - I was so impressed with the character of the town. Such a horrible, horrible tragedy.... 😢
It will take some time Lahaina will rise from the ashes
Those trees are awesome. Beautiful islands. Lahaina was a gem. 🙏💙
The roots survive & if corporations are not allowed to buy the land it will come back in 5 yrs do to the climate around the islands!
They rebuild cities in US destroyed by Hurricanes & tornadoes every year they can rebuild Maui cities
@@bevsputler5455I hope that this happens as a matter of urgency

It is such a tragic thing to happen
My cousin used to live in Honolulu and visited Maui on a number of occasions and told me how beautiful it is.
Thank you so very much for showing us. My heart is with Maui. Much love, North Carolina.
A very sad time capsule. Glad someone preserved it for the world to see!
I'm so grateful you did this. It's a good memory for those in Lahaina that have suffered a great loss. My prayers for them.
Thank you so much for sharing this. My husband, son and I lived on Maui - both Kihei and Lahaina - many years ago. This brought such great memories of the beauty of the island. There are no words to describe what I’m feeling now. 😢
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Hard to believe that Lahaina is gone. Prayers for all who have lost loved ones, homes and property. I hope they rebuild it to look as it did and try to recapture the charm and character.
Beautiful video of once beautiful Lahaina.
Thank you…my thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families!
Under normal circumstances, your pleasant music would make me want my Sunday brunch somewhere in Manhattan…… under current circumstances, it could not help but thinking those who lost their lives and everything out of their control. We are all very fragile, please be kind to the environment.
I agree. Replace the music with something Hawaiian and it’s a winner. 😊
I published this video before hearing about the fires. What a shock when I saw the news reports! I did not know that this would be a sad topic at the time, and I think it might be better to have a cheerful memory for people to somehow revive their good memories there, one day, if not right now. After hearing the news, I have only changed the title and title page.
I agree it's almost obnoxious I stopped watching due to it actually
I feel like we are touring with you in such loveliness! It’s a treasure to see how it was! And so sad and scary!😢
Such a sweet and beautiful town full of the most generous and lovely people. We have so many happy memories of it. I hope it can rebuild better and stronger.
Before the fire was such a peaceful and beautiful place.❤❤
Mahalo for sharing. Beautiful memory of Lahaina!
Thank you for posting. We were there just 3 weeks ago, before the fire. I am still waiting for a reply from the kind women of Island Spirit Yoga. The studio is gone, but I’m hoping they are ok. We love Maui and it’s people.
Maui Strong!
Have you heard yet? 🙏💐
Thank you for this. I especially loved the early morning stroll, esp the banyan tree. I live on the Big Island, always felt so much love for Lahaina. It's been over a decade since I spent time there and walked those streets with my friends, enjoying the annual Halloween party on front street. #mauistrong
Oh those Halloween parties were beyond fun. Everyone had a good time and no violence. One of the most memorable times for me back in the late 80's.
Priceless video, but sad to see such beautiful neighborhood gone forever. Perhaps they can use this video as the blueprint for the rebuilt.
What a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing.
A very poignant and timely capture of the ambience of an early morning walk to the harbor in Lahaina. Nicely done!
Thank you for placing this! Plus the important tree! South Africa
This film is a treasure!
My heart breaks for everyone impacted by the fire. God bless everyone.
So sad, so many beautiful memories with my family there. Maui holds a special place in our hearts. I pray everyone effected by this tragedy finds comfort and healing.
Thank you for sharing this amazing video. I will always hold this beautiful place in my heart.❤❤
Lahaina, Aloha, ,& Mahalo, Maui, no ka oui, forever!!!!!!
Excellent footage of Lahaina!!!! It is so depressing to think all that history is gone! The lives lost is appalling!!!! The “warning” system wasn’t working??!!! This whole fire and lack of care to the survivors sure seem nefarious
Yes it is very sad but i hope something good comes out of all the heartbreak. We are relying too much on the internet for things like warnings and the connection is so fragile. There needs to be back up that is totally not relying on electricity or internet - like the old air raid sirens. I live in Australia and we have fires like this all too often and i feel for Hawaiians and also the Canadians and Greeks that either have just had or are experiencing wild fires.
A wonderful trip, but oh, how sad !!! Enjoyed the journey and thanks for taking us along on one last trip !!! 😢
Very nice documentation. Appreciated the map view of the trip to Lana’i as a geography major and someone who values the views of land from the water. I’m from Hilo, but have never been to Lana’i and didn’t even know this ferry existed. In the past week I’ve been trying to jar my memory for long ago trips to Lahaina, but couldn’t remember much. Thank you for helping.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The ferry to Lanai to snorkel
All the trips to Maui will be cherished memories😢
WOW.. such a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.
Prayers 🙏 for all the people of this beautiful town who lost loved ones and everything else.
May you draw on God's peace which passes all understanding.

We stayed in Lahaina many years ago and it grew up so much. This beautiful island burning just breaks my heart. ❤❤
Good job of documenting the island before the wildfires.
What a beautiful city it once was. I hope the owners do not sell their properties to any real estate poachers. But instead, rebuild and thrive.
Thank you so much for making this

My cousin lived in Honolulu for a number of years
It was always my dream to visit Hawaii but sadly I will never fulfill
that dream
I feel so sad that the awful fire

🥺🙏🏼✨thank u for sharing this❣️my heart goes out to everyone in Lahaina… so hard to see the devastation, sadness and loss. I hope that families will ge able to rebuild their lives after such a unimaginable disaster. Love to everyone on Maui from California.
So grateful seeing this video, today. My heart breaks for Lahaina Town, for all the loss, so much grief.
Thank you for the trip to Lanai. I always wanted to visit. My friend who grew up in Honolulu told me the ferry had been discontinued. She told me that when we were on Maui in 2009. I've returned once or twice but never thought about the ferry again. Evidently, the ferry was running again. Now, it may be years until a tourist ferry is in operation since the fire last week. Residents will still need a ferry. Thank you for showing me what I missed. Lanai is a beautiful island.
Thank you for sharing. Praying for its people 🙏❤️
It was such a special unique place and it always stayed country. Fighting off big investors to keep her from becoming another Oahu❤️
Mahalo nui loa brudda Ed. Funny how you find yourself capturing something so important. A last view of old Lahaina. Please capture for us a view of the new Lahaina when the time is right, and help us through this grief as we grow and rebuild.
It's an honor, bro!
I am trembling about Palm Springs being zeroed in on by Hurricaine Hillary. I don't wan't another of my videos to describe a place that has been struck by disaster!
This is such an important video. It's tragic, but your videos are a tale of how things were. Tragedy for the people of Hawaii.
Loved your video. We were in Lahaina the day prior to the fire. Is is so heart wrenching to think of the people of Lahaina and how they are suffering. Thanks for such a good video.
You are welcome!
Definitely brings back a lot of memories when we were there last month. The pictures we took are now priceless and deeply cherished & greatly appreciated. Maui we love you and all your people, animals and spirit 🤍 mahalo for such beauty
It is always sad and scary and heartbreaking to hear of any fires, hurricanes, tsunami etc, but this time and the destruction of Lahaina and its victims, just brought me to tears. That was a piece of heaven on earth and even that is gone. Devastating….
These fires are MAN MADE!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the narrated tour. Love your music style, too.
In just a short period of time , such devastation.🍍
Such a tragedy. Prayers to all those affected by this disaster.
I can never figure out why believers have to inform everyone about their praying. Just do the praying (if that's your thing) without the declaration.
I can never figure out why non-believers have to inform everyone about their annoyances. Just be annoyed (if that's your thing) without the declaration.
@@megatuanis I can never figure out why believers have to inform everyone about their ignorance. Just be ignorant (if that's your thing) without the declaration.
@@anitamiller7960 See, now you're just copying me, so not clever. What's funny is that I'm not a believer but I don't get my panties all in a knot just because someone says, "prayers to all those affected by this tragedy." That person is sending his or her well wishes and good vibes the only way they know how. You, on the orher hand, introduce irrelevant attacks when people are talking about a tragedy. So much bitterness and wasted energy. Live and let live. So what if they send their prayers? Who cares? Good bye.
@@megatuanis You realize your first comment copied what I said almost verbatim, right? So, not clever. Members of the religious cult need to be confronted at every juncture. They are a scourge on society. Maybe you don't care if they dictate to others their righteous dictums, but I do.
Great job!! My family and I were just there at the beginning of July. You go on vacations and you never think about making videos like this. We were only on the island 5 days...maybe if we had a couple weeks, things might have been different. Who would have thought to take vacation photos/videos of the stores along the street. Oh course....you were there early. We were always there late afternoon, evening and it was busy. We went down to the harbor for the Atlantis submarine tour and parasailing. Hope everyone's safe!!!
Thanks! Your video brought back so many warm memories of a ferry crossing I took from Lahaina to Molokai a few years back. So sad to see lovely Lahaina totally destroyed but the loss of buildings pales to the staggering loss of life.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing such beautiful memories❤ Perfect timing too! Ive been wanting to see how the place looked before the fires, especially that beautiful tree planted in 1873. I also heard it may survive 🙏 I’m sure with our support and donations, they’ll recover from this and be better than before! ❤
You are welcome! The timing must have been arranged by a higher power. It coincided with my completion of visiting all the Hawaiian Islands, ending at Lanai (taken me since 1978 to do so).
@@baldermusic8697You have done so much for me by sharing the video of your holiday
You have shown me how beautiful Hawaii is
Thank you so very much
All of these Lahaina videos could help in rebuilding the town similar to what it was before the fire.
True, but that won't happen, I guarantee you because they want the land for their own purposes. The savageness of this devastation was unnatural.
Watch what gets rebuilt. Watch whom owns everything. How could they ???? How 😢
I stood on the highest sea cliffs in the world in Molokai. I thank God for my opportunity to be with the natives.
As the shuttle drove along the road to Lanai City, the dried out, tan grasses were very apparent. Now just imagine the hillsides above Lahaina covered with similar vegetation in the days leading to the fire outbreak.
Seeing all the dry underbrush on the road into Lanai city, that is probably the kind of growth that turned Lehaire into a tinderbox in those raging winds.
Let us hope and pray to God Lahaina will be rebuilt. With God's blessings and graces Lahaina will be a better place to visit.
Sadly no it won't. The character and uniqueness of all those businesses and buildings and homes is lost forever. It can be made beautiful again but it won't be the same.
I visited Lahaina last year with my wife before we had our first baby. It was a beautiful little town with so much charm and history. We have fond memories walking along Front St. checking out the shops, chatting with the locals, taking in the serene views and coastal breezes. I can't believe what happened there, my heart and prayers goes to all those who lost everything. In an instant this town went from a peaceful retreat to a hellscape, it's unimaginable.
Actually the Banyan tree survived, but the rest of Lahaina was wiped out. I was there in Feb. 2022 and also took the ferry to Lanai. I went to the Cat Sanctuary.
I was introduced to Kat, the owner of the Cat Sanctuary, in Mike Carrol's Art Gallery there.
That is because it was a DEW attack which only burns houses and cars but leave the trees alive. prayers for all in Maui.
A trip that I would have loved to make

This video is iconic due to the recent fire at Maui. Beautuful and informative video. I really appreciate your sharing this. Thank you.
You're welcome!
I walked those exact streets and shops last September. Memories to be treasured because I will never get back there again.
The area around Dole Park is very unique and beautiful. But I can understand how a wildfire could get out of control because of the brush at the lower elevations.
Lanai has strange tall trees, I’m from New Zealand and used to native bush. It’s very quiet. Good place to visit if you want peace.

Terrific video. Thanks for sharing. I have been to Lahaina town many, many times but have never been to Lanai. What a great little island.
Lanai looks so dry too. My heart is hurting so bad for the people of Maui. My thoughts and prayers are with the ones that lost love ones, homes, jobs and their fur babies. It is so sad to hear the stories of survival and to see the pictures. Yes, it can be rebuilt but you can never build history. I was such a beautiful small town with such character. I am so sorry.
