My husband and I are Platinum members on Carnival. We have always dressed up a bit, but never in formal attire like ball gowns and tuxedos. We will be sailing on Royal Caribbean soon, and we won’t be buying new clothes. We will dress the same as always, so they had better allow us in the MDR.

Even if your feet do smell like roses, it’s just rude and speaks to the character of people.

Hope you're doing well Jayson. The feet on chair backs is ridiculous. Unfortunately this is the type of society we live in today. There is a total lack of respect for others & other people's property these days. I read stories of brawls on cruises, aboard flights, and at professional sporting events. My fear is it's only going to get worse.

Cruise lines need to double security, enhance observation, and strengthen their policy's to give them legal authority to call out and enforce
penalties on abusers, including kids and their parents.

Getting older I do not want to be required to dress up at all on my cruise. Maybe the cruise ships can still have formal nights but have sign ups to see how many people will attend and just block of an area of the dining room for them. Or have it in one of the specialty restaurants. I like longer cruises and typically do not want to take shore excursions. A bit of walking right off the ship suits me fine. I’m there to relax, have fun with my hubby, enjoy the scenery and get away from the stress of home.

If you want a formal night where people wear a Tux and ball gown, you need to change cruise lines. There are cruise lines that demand you dress that way.

We are on a cruise, when I'm on vacation I don't want anyone dictating what I need to wear. I always bring my formal wear but there are times when I don't wear them or not even participate. It's my choice. I'm platinum as well and glad I can choose to go all out formally or not and not be judged on Carnival!

My opinion on formal nights is dress up if you want, have fun, but I don’t want it mandatory for everyone. Secondly respect the ship property and rules, bare feet below at the pool, not in the theatre. If you break a rule, like stealing on a drink package, ban them from sailing anymore.

  • @MaritaRipple

It used to be that way on Carnival. I do miss it. I still get really dressy on formal night. But it shouldn't be mandatory.

Regarding formal nights, if you don't like how someone else is dressed, don't look. It's none of your business and you're certainly not entitled to tell someone else how they must dress!

People should not have to rent a tux. Nor should women have to buy a gown.

    • @CynthiaRockroth
      @CynthiaRockroth Місяць тому

The cheapest way to get a gown is go to a prom shop in advance or a used bridal shop and make your purchase beforehand ( like when you book your cruise) roll tge gown instead of folding, and ask for it to be steamed iron when you get on board. Same thing for any costume party. Buy in advance, take it with you. If you don't like it, you can drop it off at any goodwill when getting off before getting on a plane home.

One fancy is awesome. I miss it. But when u only get into the dining room 1 time on a 7 night cruise due to the dining room people gave absolutely no clue what they're doing and food sucked. Well

As for formal nights, it should continue as is, dress as formal as you choose; others can dress more casual, as they currently are doing. If the person at the entrance of the dining room doesn’t turn them around, then guess shouldn’t have a thing to say, just enjoy your meal, that’s what I choose to do.

As far as formal night goes, it should be more relaxed on all cruise lines. I own a tux and a white dinner jacket but many people who cruise might be on their first and only one because of the cost. Can you imagine a couple who save for years to cruise on their anniversary being turned away to the buffet on a formal night. Women and men must decide for themselves if they prefer to dress as a lady and gentleman for dinner in the main dining room or as a girl and boy at the buffet. It is not so imposing for a lady to pack a nice dress or a gentleman's dress shirt and slacks- a tie doesn't take up much space either. Those who would impose gown and tuxedo dress code should book a suite and dine in their own restaurant.

To bring ball gowns on a cruise ship if you are flying will only cost more for luggage. You would have to put those ball gowns in a separate suitcase to avoid getting them crush.

ROLL THEM DEAR. and ask for a steam pressing as soon as you board. also if you want MAIL THE DRESS TO YOURSELF AT THE MAIN POSTOFFICE AT CITY WHERE YOU ARE BOARDING. ( don't forget to insure it.) And mail a week or 2 in advance having them hold it.pick it up at least a day before you board.

Cruise is for relaxation. If you choose to dress like you're in a formal wedding, that's your choice but should never be required. Most people don't want to pack and haul that attire around.

For formal/ Elegant nights on the cruise we always dress up, my gowns usually don't cost less than $400.00 each, then I donate them. It would be nice to see everyone at least in "Sunday " clothes on those nights.
Unfortunately we live in a time where people only thing about themselves, so putting their dirty feet where they want is what they will do.
I won't eat in the buffet for the reasons toy described, some people are just disgusting!

When I require a formal suit and I have to hire one which is expensive. I went on a cruise with celebrity and I could hire a suit on the ship but it is expensive and if I have to bring one it adds to my luggage weight plus I'm not confortable in formal dress so try and avoid it whenever possible. If I'm on a cruise and I cannot go into the main dining room because of formal night, I end up in the boffet.

We were on a b2b on Celebrity Apex on October/November. I had packed enough formal wear, but then we decided to go only once to such a dinner.
We were dressed nicely, hubby wore a suit (but no tie)
There were lots of people with dark suits or dinner jackets and the ladies were decorated with jewels. Like Christmas trees 😊
Nevertheless, there were also people at the same dinner with Hawaii Shirts on, one very old Texan couple had matching T Shirts with a cruise relating sentence on the front.
In which world either of that is "formal" I cannot see - but they were allowed in the MDR!
So I guess we others just have to take it as it is, close our eyes on SOME outfits and enjoy our meals!!!

Cruise lines should take the step to remove the drink-package stealers from the sailing at the next port in addition to cancelling the remainder of the package and billing accordingly. If it's short cruise, no additional ports, sit in the holding cell until the cruise ends and then proceed with the remainder of the process. So dumb.

  • @pterrypower5140

I think they should do away with “formal night” or “dress your best’
There is a change in attitude of people who say this is “ their vacation” and it is inconvenient for them to dress accordingly to a minimum dress code.

A big problem with "sharing drinks" most people dont realize. IT IS ILLEGAL TO SHARE DRINKS BECAUSE BARTENDERS ARE LIBIL IF YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE UNDERAGE OR IS ALLERGIC TO THE CONTENTS OF THE DRINK.
This includes soda pop and milk products. The drink is poured for the person drinking it PERIOD. Health and safty standards are of a restaurant and requirements BY LAW MEANS ZERO SHARE INCLUDING INSIDE A FAMILY GROUP.

People need to worry about themselves and stop trying to dictate what they deem others should do on THEIR vacation! With the feet on the seats, people have no decency and common sense. Everyone feels entitled to do whatever they want and the heck with everyone else. Enjoy your hard earn vacation! But remember, others worked hard for their vacation as well, have some respect!!

On the subject of tuxedos and ball gowns Carnival built their business on getting away from this, one fix would be designate a single dinning room as "Dress Code Enforced". Just my opinion.

I always dress up on formal nights. I figure that when we go to a nice restaurant, we dress up. If we don’t want to dress up, we go somewhere casual. On a cruise, I see the MDR as a nice restaurant and dress accordingly. And in case you think I’m a stuffy old fart, on a recent Alaska I saw a family of about 6 or 8, all dressed up from the oldest to the youngest. Then I noticed one of the teenaged girls, in a lovely red evening dress that she looked amazing in, was wearing black converse high tops. It was hysterically funny and utterly charming. So age-typical! I love her confidence and her ability to follow the rules, but throw in just a hint of rebelliousness.
