    Great Interview! So much information in here that would otherwise be hard to gather. I will still read the related literature but this really provides an excellent starting ground.

    I'm an N of 1 so not challenging Dr. Weiss who I respect a lot, but I eat a high carb diet (complex including potatoes and brown rice), very low in simple carbs and added sugar, and I have good blood work. ApoB < 80, HbA1c ~5.0%, hsCRP < 0.3 mg/L, TG of ~80 mg/dL, HDL ~ 50. TC ~ 150., LDL-C ~90. When I stopped routinely eating bread and pasta and beer, and eliminated most sweets, my TG quickly dropped from around 220 to less than 100. Liver enzymes improved as well as other common blood markers. BMI from 28 to 25. I do eat a reasonable (not high or low) amount of fat - olives, nuts, occasional avocado, and a bit of olive oil. Fish once a week - no mammals or fowl or dairy. Get the simple carbs and processed food out of your house and fine tune from there.

      Yep I think a large part of improving biomarkers is just getting rid of the processed food. Even though I do modified keto, I don't think it's for everyone. The more important part is cleaning up the diet to eat healthy carbs and other goodies you mentioned. So great to hear of your progress! :)

    Great conversation.. you mentioned that ldl can be variable depending on time of day. After exercise, etc…… so then Is Apo b variable too?

    What about exercise? Do you talked about it in this video?

      Not in depth in this one, but it's come up several times on my other episodes - still one of the best longevity pills!

    If you have high Lp(a) you can get a weekly or monthly procedure done to DRASTICALLY lower it (and LDL Cholesterol) called lipid apheresis. For an hour or so you have your blood pumped through a machine that clears out most of these particles.

    The term "risk factors" is actually a bunch of bull, because the risk factors are often not causative. If a fire engine is parked outside of my house, there is a substantial risk that my house is on fire, but it is not likely that the fire engine caused the fire. The same is true with elevated LDL cholesterol - it did not cause the heart disease. Further, note that over half of people who show up at the hospital with a heart attack have normal LDL. So the cause is not LDL. The cause appears to be insulin resistance, but most cardiologists are ignoring it and just want to prescribe drugs to lower LDL.

      Heart attacks causese cholesterol to decline so it's no surptise that people who have had a heart attack have lower than expected levels.
      It's simply absurd to ignore the mountains of evidence that prove that LDL is a causal factor for CVD and that lowering LDL reduces the rate of major adverse cardiovascular events.

      @@tomgoff7887 You are sadly misguided by the cholesterol scam.

      @@danielmccarthyy The evidence is overwhelming. Every medical association and every national health authority on the planet accepts this. Only cranks and people profiting from cholesterol denialism claim otherwise.

    Really appreciate this conversation, especially the reality-check when it comes to SFA. It's always a bad sign when people treat science as revealed wisdom and proselytization (thinking of Gary Taubes!) It pays to be pragmatic, skeptical, and open-minded rather than wedded to one idea or another, especially in a field as shaky as nutrition.

    Man there is a lot of audio breakage in this. Your podcasts are great but the audio quality (whether you or the interviewee or the connection) is a constant disappointment that makes me want to click off

    • @livelongerworld
      @livelongerworld  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback! Sorry about the audio. I've now switched the microphone and location, but some of these ones were recorded before I made the switch. So hopefully much better audio quality to come soon!

    •  2 роки тому

      Give it a chance; the audio improves after the first few minutes. Such occasional issues just go with the territory when it comes to zoom/voip.
