    Basically, this takes energy out of the water by changing it's direction (due to being in a conservative force field) and by changing it's ending velocity. So you are getting energy from gravity and preexisting potential energy. So your optimum impeller design will necessarily change based on how you use it, whether horizontally or vertically.
    If it is fully submerged, you need to treat it as both changing the direction of the water within the confines of the turbine, and as a diffuser that changes in volume over the length as some function of the impeller design.

      This is a perfect write up! It had not even crossed my mind of the different forces for when it's fully submerged. I think I skipped that step

    I really like your thought process and trial and error! If I may make a suggestion, the water you’re working with is like a horizontal waterfall, so the area you’re working with should mate with something like a water wheel. Anything round will fight with any torque you’re going to get. You could try throwing a pvc pipe over the shaft, so you can direct a cylindrical water fall.

      Check out my newest short! This is very much so a water wheel haha. Great advice for this one I'll definitely look into this

    The OL on the meter is for overload. The motor`s output voltage were more than what the meter were set to.

      When editing I figured this to be the case as it was well over 50v which was unexpected. Thanks for clearing this up for me though

    Hoverboard motor should be easy to find used, cheap and work well for this application. Keep testing with the load on it.
    Keep this up. Cool project.

      I've seen alot of comments for this. I have an ebike motor that may work pretty well too. Hoping to start digging into this soon. Thank you for the kind words!

    so cool

    Need to try a solid shaft , could also make a wide mouth combiner that will direct more water from the sides into the propeller I like the bevel on the inside, but try it twice as long, print one with a different pitch and see what that does. Good deal for you to try this. Good job. But don’t trust her, it was shorting out. 😂

      Check out my power on a stick vid! There's a collector on that just like you decribe. I'll see what I can do on this I'm just worried too much will make it unstable as well. 🤣 ik when I was editing I saw them and decided to really zoom in. That could have caused the jumping as well

    I think it could be longer, and the circumference would be based on expected depth of water average

      I'll have to play around with this idea of adding more length! If I continue testing in the water fall, the diam can have a pretty decent size range. For rivers/streams that is correct though

    You should always hook up a MPPT controller with a battery. Otherwise those numbers are kinda useless.
    You could try and add an 1 foot axle that the cable would connect to, and also add some more "pipe" after the turbine, to make it more stable.

      Thank you for this comment, I want to get all the other kinks sorted before adding in more components. I think adding more pipe after the turbine is a great idea! Stay tuned only a matter of time before its making power

    It looked like the bevel inward made it more stable too. It could have been a symptom of it being larger but, this is really cool stuff. maybe a more "apples-to-apples" aka same size rotor, different bevel.

      This is an interesting point! How about this 80% size both bevels? And a 3rd with higher pitch

    Power = voltage * current, so measuring voltage alone doesn't really mean anything, you need to load the circuit and have current flowing, which will also make the motor resist the impeller movement, and only in this case will the impeller be doing useful work (which is power * time)

    • @evka85
      @evka85 2 місяці тому

      This is definitely a cool idea though, just need to measure correctly, and optimize to those conditions (while consuming power)

      Yes this is true! I miss spoke when I said voltage earlier on in the video. When I switched to the power analyzer there was the resistive load. I didn't with the multimeter though.

      Thank you that's the next steps in this and hopefully get some meaningful power. (Not voltage lmao)

    Could it be the chamfer that made the small turbine unstable? As you already said, it's not getting pulled in and centered like the big one.
    As soon as you can reliably place the turbine with a constant Speed, you can use a large Potentiometer or another variable load, to measure Voltage and current instead of using a fixed resistor, so you can calculate or measure your peak power.

    • @Beyond_The_Print
      @Beyond_The_Print  2 місяці тому

      I think it could be that partially, but the main factor seemed to be it tensioning the cable to the point it has to "flex" rather than the motor. I really like the idea with the potentiometer to regulate the resistance! Thanks

    dc motors dont make very good generators , you should use a three phase generator like one for a wind turbine .
