Here in the UK I left a pair of Mt. Minnows out in my outdoor small pond (actually in an unheated garden room, top half is glass) for a test to see if they would survive. Even after there was ice on the surface for a few days, I see they are still alive. I hope they will breed during the summer. I also will put some more Rice Fish in with them as the one I tested this winter is also alive. The large lily keeps the water in good condition along with the Elodia. Always good to hear of others' experiences.

These are fantastic fish! I currently have 6 that I had outside this summer and they did great out there. As far as temperature goes, I did not get them out of my patio pond until October and when I did the water temp was 57 degrees! I slowly let the bucket that I brought them into the house warm to room temperature and they did fine. I have not got them to breed yet, however. I’m getting 8 more. Also the fish that’s keeps flaring seems like a male, I’ve tried sexing them and there seem to be 2 males to 4 females. It only seems like the smaller male that’s doing this, he also flares at his reflection. Is he trying to impress the females? All water parameters are good for them.

I had one in with Tetras and Endlers and it was very territorial, moved him on and my other fish are a lot happier now. It was kinda agressive.

One thing I'd add is that they are ravenous feeders. They are disturbing my slower fish from eating. Maybe it's just my group turned out that way. I do feed them food they really like and they are getting obsessive about. Otherwise, they are a peaceful bunch. One thing that happened to me is one of the smallest ones got eaten by my glutinous female betta. He was barely a size for her to get down but she did and I unfortunately witnessed it.

Do you know if it's possible for a salvini cichlid to breed with a firemouth cichlid, because I have them in a 55 gallon aquarium by themselves, they get along great and they follow each other around everywhere? The salvini is a female, the firemouth is a male.

Do you think fish like CPD's could be a decent tankmate for these guys? I was thinking maybe because of the temperature but another opinion is always great.

When you go to the LFS and you find yourself stopping staring at the fish longer than usual.. Get the fish...just bought 12 of these ,ruby cloud minnows they were labeled. No heater, 10 gallon ,sponge filter with airstone , no decorations, no substrate ,black back ground. Just awesome fish!

Thanks Jason, I am thinking about converting an unused 100 plus gallon Rubbermaid livestock trough for a summer tub outside this summer (Michigan.) Do you think they would be a good candidate or just too dang small? Love the channel!
