I've been posting 'work in progress' pictures and footage on Instagram if anyone's interested instagram.com/andyphillip67/ Thanks for watching and supporting my channel ....
This gave me an idea... In roughly the way you made this one, you could make an elegant globe of a fantasy planet with white resin polar caps, blue resin oceans, and green or beige wood or resin continents. Bands and spalting in the wood would come out looking like geographic features. It might perhaps need a hollow spherical spacer in the center to reduce the weight. Do you think this is worth trying? I think it'd be exciting to unveil your planet at the end and see how it came out!
I have been looking for a turning lathe, should I go new or craigslist? Any recommendations on better models, I notice that you upgraded from the red one. Thanks
Recently, I started treating myself to the videos you posted before I had the recommendation from UA-cam (must have been around Xmas? I have no idea, time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana). Each and every one is an absolute delight to watch. Not a single work of art would not be welcomed in my home, and I really don't do knick-knacks and ornaments. Initially I thought that your use of acrylic would somehow undermine the quality of the finished article, but I was 100% wrong. You find a perfect balance between wood and colour and it always works. Some people are just jammy when it comes to having talent! Yet another one I would have given house room to!
My dad is an accomplished turner. Just some beautiful works he has created over the years. I wish I could take up the hobby, but my asthma and allergies simply cannot handle even being in the shop.
Stunning , I have one with no color that was a year in the making (as was learning). I have been turning for 2 years and I appreciate learning from people like you. THANK YOU!!
Each piece I watch you do, I say it's my favorite! But this one makes me want to cry it's so gorgeous! I guess I should watch these in some sort of order or something! But a different one pops up and I have to watch it because it's just fascinating! Have a great weekend! I hope your hand is alright! Looks like it probably hurt a good bit! (Well about 18 months ago anyway!)Take care!
I know my comment is *way* out of date, but at the time *I’m* watching this upload in Nov. 2019, I was just in the process of re-bandaging & taping together the *exact* same two fingers & wrist [+elbow] on my right hand/arm (I had ulnar release surgery at the elbow for cubital tunnel syndrome 2 months ago, then unfortunately subsequently suffered further complications & severe pain due to ulnar nerve damage), when I noticed *your* bandages too! Hope whatever ailed you at the time of this video has [I was about to say: "fingers-crossed!", but I can’t actually physically cross them at the moment!] now successfully healed; & of course, *wonderful* finished product, as always!
Am sorry you're hurt. Those wood shaving can hurt. You create beautiful and useful pieces of art!!! ) Thank you for sharing your creation processes!!! )
Stunning work! I am curious if you have any guidelines on the epoxy resin in the pressure pot, e.g., PSI or kPa, and time to set, or is it just trial and error.
Hey Andy, may I make a suggestion on the next dragon egg that you make? Carve a dragon figure in the egg and then put either a blue or red or yellow for the yoke or even clear resin over the egg. Making look like there is a baby dragon in the egg. Your things are really awesome and wonderful. I would like to have the tools and even a small part of the talent that you have developed.
Looks like you broke a finger. Doing your craft I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Take care though. I’d never heard of mallee burls until now. I did a little research on the net and it’s a very pretty would especially the red mallee. That bud vase is extraordinarily beautiful. Do you sell them??

The vase came out beautiful!
Stunning work! I am curious if you have any guidelines on the epoxy resin in the pressure pot, e.g., PSI or kPa, and time to set, or is it just trial and error.

Beautiful piece! One question: I was surprised that the hot glue didn't hold the whole piece into the container more. How did it come out so easily?
Thanks .. The hot glue doesnt stick that well to ptfe plastic ..a couple of taps and it usually frees itself ..cheers
Stunning!! nice work
I have to say Andy, you’re getting a bit good at this resin stuff. Really nice looking piece 👍🏻.
Regards
Geof
Andy, what are you fishing it with?
Almost looks like Westeros
Cool work man
I really like these. I wonder what it would be like with a sort of amber coloured resin?
Hey Andy, may I make a suggestion on the next dragon egg that you make?
Carve a dragon figure in the egg and then put either a blue or red or yellow for the yoke or even clear resin
over the egg.
Making look like there is a baby dragon in the egg.
Your things are really awesome and wonderful. I would like
to have the tools and even a small part of the talent that
you have developed.
