RNG manipulation setups always look so absurd on the surface if you don't know what's going on. It reminds me of those playground rumors people spread as kids - "you can find Mew under the truck, but you have to do a complicated series of steps first!"
This is one of my favourite games of all time and this was still the first time I found out about being able to make Squall do different moves in that cutscene, it’s insane how many tiny but fun details there are in this game
Went back to watch this again after watching your runs over the weekend, having the context of how this manip works really puts into perspective how important these strats are. It's also really cool to see how the manip has been refined over time. Really cool stuff, and really cleanly presented. Your videos get better and better each time. 💪💪💪💪🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💯💯💯💯
Loved the video. I've hand coded iso modding tools for this back in the day just to change what I wanted and check how things worked, if you need a hand figuring anything out I could probably look into how something works 👍 e.g. did you know it's faster and easier to get infinite rosetta stones from desert prision by just timing it from a cue in the music instead of the other method walking a precise path then opening and closing the card option menu like 57 times or whatever it is.
This is wild to learn about. Always figured there was some crazy RNG manip stuff in this game given how many sequences have some wonky mechanics. Honestly what I got the most from this is that I've been sleeping on Irvine's limit break all these years LOL
Ooh, French PC version huh? Has that got slightly shorter text or something? The French localization is severely underrated. Useless information to anybody who doesn't read French, but it seemed to have a lot more time in the oven than the English one as it wasn't being rushed out to compete with the Dreamcast.
Good eye! the french version saves somewhere between 5 and 7 minutes (no exact testing has been done that I'm aware of), due to the textboxes mostly having less characters than in english, and more importantly, the animation being ~40% faster to open and close. I believe it's something to do with how PAL stuff was converted to the PC/steam port. This would have been interesting to mention in the video because the difference in textbox length changes when you confirm the last prompt and lock in your party, so the manip changes. missed opportunity there by me 😅 Interesting that you say it's a good translation because on all accounts I have from native french speakers it's really, really bad. Definitely interested in looking into that more 🤔
the ultimecia fight characters, both on start and after every time she "sends one through the rivers of time" are full random, not "next lowest level character".
I played the game without any Manipulation. A skilled warrior faces foes head on, not with these Underhanded tactics.
A wild Jimothy in the comment section. This is insane! It must be Jimothy's Jamboree!
Random rule in Triple Triad is an underhanded tactic against having fun. So I use RNG to abolish that crap.
Pressing triangle to spin in cutscenes is the key knowledge I was missing from this game
I want to replay ff8 again just so I could do this myself

Yeah, except that damn Mew trick never worked! Source: Me.
God I'm so glad FF8 Is getting a little more attention, it really is a weird game and more people should know about it
Looks like there are things for me still to learn about this game lol, a fan since the end of 1998.
Great work.

I love these tricks that people come up with!

I didn't even speed run this game, and Irvine was the only one who managed to defeat Ultemicia with him drawing her unique damage dealing ability.
Loved the video.

Babe, wake up! Syo just dropped another JRPG Speedrun Banger! Class video mate, keep up the great work
I love strats that are found without tas or datamining
