I have used this microphone once on a live show and it truly blowed my mind. Absolutely gorgeous piece of equipment. But wait a minute… that monitors… is this a new version of PDP Owl? Looks definitely more ATC-like 😅 Please tell us more about these 🙏

Love this concept - will definitely consider it as my next mic. I've found over years than recording vocals at home in suboptimal conditions is really difficult with sensitive condenser mics and ended up using dynamic mics most of the time. But this form factor could be the perfect of two worlds for the home studio use plus it will be incredible for live.

Great review, and very solid advise on getting your own microphone; and pick one that matches *your* vocals!
So many vocalist I met that assume to "just hand me a mike" or never even tried anything other than an SM58 (everyone uses them, so they must be the best microphone, right?). And those times I selected different mikes for different singers in the same band (why do I get a different mike?).
I wonder how much cat hair has snuck its way into their electronics? One day, they'll pull out a power supply to find its fan completely clogged with Floppy hair. 🤣

We did a private pre-launch for our discord members and email subscribers back in December, featuring a brand-new model which is is a huge advancement and improvement on the original design we showed on UA-cam last October. I suggest joining our discord or email subscription, both of which are free, if you want early access info. Otherwise, it will be about two months or so before we share anything further on UA-cam :)

This is very very similar to the Austrian Audio OC707 and the OC707 WL1 concept. Did the manufactures exchange research or did one copy the other?

I remember when I did production for fun and this free loading hip-hop group couldn't understand myself saying this they should invest in their own microphones.
I'm spending thousands on equipment so they can make this music, why can they save and invest in their microphones?
If I was a singer I'd be trying to find the best sound for my voice and then carry that around with me, just like someone with a guitar would... but, even if those people sing they don't... how does the sound of their voice escape the concept of "getting that sound"?
I would save and invest in both my live and studio microphone setup... I'd be working on the entire chain also, not just the mic for myself.
I remember them cupping the mics and gesturing "WT flip" to the sound engineers when there was feed back, almost don't want to irradiated that issue

Disappointed that the Flopcat Purr test wasn't included for the ASMR fetishists, but I'm sure he'll eventually manage a live performance if bribed with kippers.
Looks reasonably idiotproof, which will be useful for a great many vocalists.
3:00 it's true that most singers cup the mic because we're narcissistic idiots, but there are some grrreAT!!! singers out there who cup the mic specifically for that tonal shift, my favourite among them being Chino Moreno of Deftones. That up-close moaning sound that's made him the darling of Goth girls everywhere can't be done without intimately cupping the thing in front of your mouth like a teen in heat.
5:40 I tried bringing my own proper mic in my early days, but not one single live engineer ever let me use it: The SM58 is the best mic ever built and no other attempt has ever come remotely close to even being useable, apparently.
As for a studio mic: the few times I ever recorded in a proper studio, they always had incredible microfibres at hand. The best one was 22 years ago in studio 1 of the Faroese public broadcast institution, and it was an ancient ribbon or tube mic without any brand or serial number. Now I have a Lewitt LCT 640 TS, but no studio to bring it too

Nobody's gonna buy a Lewitt hand-held mic at that price - Shure have enough trouble shifting their hand-helds in a similar price range - it'll be a bargain in a year's time when it's £250-£300 for what is obviously a very good hand-held mic.

That’s not true, we review all kinds of stuff! Take the Behringer mics we reviewed last year… that was quite something 😂

It’s true. This isn’t “expensive” as such, there are certainly more expensive mics out there. But, it’s a decent mic so it deserved a review, and overall you get what you pay for
