Tents. What I use for Bushcraft, Canoe and Wild Camping, Backpacking and Bikepacking.

- Опубліковано 28 тра 2024
- In this video, I will be going through my current tent choices for bushcraft, canoe camping, car camping, backpacking and bike packing.
These tents vary hugely in style, size, weight, material and suitability for particular activities - some are very heavy, but robust and will last a lifetime, others are very light, easily carried, but at the expense of durability, whilst others are strong, yet still light.
I will be going through the tents that I own and currently use and will discuss the merits and downsides of each one in turn. There are a huge number of tents available commercially and they vary massively in quality and cost. This selection of tents is simply my own personal choice.
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching!

Who are the 12 knucklehead people who disliked this video? Simon is always cordial, pleasant and informative. I love this guy and have followed him for years. Another great video Simon. Congrats on your growing channel. Take care mate 🙏🏼⛺️😎. God bless and happy camping
That canvas one you made is my favorite. You are a man with many talents.
He is also a man with many tents or t(al)ents?
Thank you! It’s my favourite too 😁
Look for a old book called "the golden book of camping" that will show you how to make some awesome stuff but it's not the cheapest, I got lucky and found a dirt cheap copy that some kid scribbled on the first page
Those are all awesome tents but I definitely liked your homemade one the most, very cool tent!
With all those shelters, you should start a music festival. «Simon, a DJ in the woods».
Certainly does good music in the vids!
'Come on baby light my fire' could be the openning number.
@@jonahtwhale1779 Lol, that's pretty clever. 😅
What a good idea Kimberly LOL
You buy a tent but you dont need it ..... but when you need it- you have it allready !!!! I have the same illness, love your video !
The canvas Baker tent you made is the coolest tent of all time!
Great vid Simon...and thank you for the shout out.
URL to store?
I like the adapter. Very clever.
Pleasure mate! Genius bit of kit - quite a few people have been in touch after one of them - can they get in touch via another platform other than IG? 👍👍
Could Start uour Own Tent Hire Buisness Si
Kudos to you for taking time to Erect them, and Packaway ,just for the Vid👍
Thank you! It took about 2 hrs to put them up, 20 minutes to take down (oh, and 3 days to dry them and squeeze them back into their bags) 😂
@@simonablokeinthewoods I'm just back from 4 days in the wilds of North West Scotland. My garage still has my tent slung over a paracord line drying out - so I'll be sympathising with you in an hour or two as I pack it away and wash up my very manky zebra billy and TJM kit. The midge were just coming out but weren't biting - but I do have concerns that you'll be bitten to death at the time of year you're going. Thanks again for the content. Keep it coming.
How many memories did it bring back setting up all those tent? Each tent has so many stories to tell.
Just In my hammock watching mate 👍👍👍👍
Good morning from the US of A Simon first guy in , your vids always upload during My morning break at work 😂, So get to see them first thing 👍
Oh my gosh, Simon. So kind of you to take the time to do this for us. It's like a living tent catalogue! Thank you so much.
A sprawling metropolis of tents ⛺️
*He Lā Maika’i Loa!!* _Have A Great Day!_ 🌴
When I told my wife I needed another tent, she replied haven’t you got enough tents ? So I showed her this video 😁
"A selection of tents" you have more ....
I have 2, and I think that is 1 to many 😉
Something decent to watch while we have all this rain! Cheers Simon
Ive said it here more than once and will continue saying it. The home built Baker tent is fantastic! I wish I had the skills neccesary to make on of my own! Great job!
Thank you!
Same here baker tents are cool.
I had one custom made
🤠 2 people can live in one when it rains day & night day after day & not get cabin fever.
Excellent stuff Simon, great to see some of your tents ⛺️ and how you use them. Great to see Maggie being a willing co presenter as well….🐕🦺😂👏🏻👌🏻
I had a custom made baker tent kind of heavy, I chose Egyptian cotton.
a person or even two can live in one comfortable when it rains all day day after day. Now I am 80 yrs old if I get outside I would use a square tarp 3m*3m🤠
Thank you sir. This has helped me tremendously in my selection of tents. How you manage to find such interesting music with all of your time constraints is amazing.
Many, many moons ago my father came home driving a brand-new Rambler Station Wagon. And in the back was a brand-new Bakers tent. My mother said that the only reason he bought the wagon was because the tent was included, for FREE! Dad would just grin and laugh. He never denied it though.
3:30 am and my ever present insomnia is kicking my ass, thank god for this. If you knew how much I enjoy these you’d be charging. Great film, and a great selection. Always wanted but it’s impractical S for me. Had a 5m bell for six years and still not had it out of the bag, life has unexpected twists and turns. But the one I envy is still your Baker, I’d love one! Take it easy pal, and thank you, really enjoyed that.
Yea I must say the Baker tent is my favourite, having watch you make and use it on a number of occasions.
I had one custom made from cotton at a tent & awning place. I have not had many tents once a person lives in a baker tent they are not likely to change. 🤠
That canvas baker tent you made is awesome:)
I'm almost 50 and have never gone camping in my life even once, yet I just watched 20 minutes of a guy showing me his tent collection. How does that work?
Enthusiasm is contagious.
You have a deep inner NEED to retreat to the wilderness! Since you are new to camping I recommend semi-wilderness first, such as your backyard.⛺
Tigersden utterly embodies the 'tarp camper' idea of perfection. -probably why it's sold out every time I look😞. If you need a mountaineering tent then there are designs for that, I'll keep dreaming about the Tigersden because it suits my needs⛺️🏕😍.
Hi Simon, as a native from Scotland, if it were me I would take a tent that pitches as one for your Scottish Trip. Them pesky midges can get everywhere (only females bite) ✌️. The west coast is a stunning piece off the country
Ps what’s happening with your subs, the number doesn’t seem to be increasing, does UA-cam have a problem with your account. I remember in the past you mentioned, you weren’t getting notifications. Come on UA-cam get your finger out. Great video as always, keep up the good work 👍👍
Thank you , Simon .
🐺Loupis Canis .
I still do miss my old two person canvas tent. Now mostly sleeping in my car. 🍻
My favorite is still the Homemade Canvas Baker. I can watch that first video a couple times a week. Nice job, Simon A. Bloke... LOL Skillet
I have not had a lot of tents a cotton bakers tent was the best tent I had.🤠
Ahhhh the warm welcoming youtube hug that is Simon. Love your videos, cheers for all your effort. Appreciated
I guess I am retro....
Canvas tents in the 60s, camping with scouts and army cadets
We had the 120 pounder, an eight man A frame tent, then the eight man bell tent
We backpacked with the canvas pup tents, which weighed a ton when wet
You could not touch the inside of the canvas or it would leak
Times have changed
Yep, I remember those heavy canvas patrol tents from my scouting days - a brutal carry!
Hey Simon, new subscriber here , i found you through Andy's videos and love watching you both, you guys are the real deal and make me want to get back out into the real world, I've been sitting behind a computer for too long, also i cant wait to get my mini grill from Trevor at TJM thanks for showing us the cool things you've acquired , your trip to Sweden was also one of my favorites. keep up the good work and always split your time for the family , there first in life understandably.
WoW Simon you have quite a collection of tents and bevies but the baker tent you made is my favorite one. Camping in that one looks really comfortable. I’m sure the others are too . Great video once again the drone camera was a little off but we still got the picture.😁
I had a baker tent custom made. best tent of any I tried. now I use a square 10*10 foot tarp.
I had a Hurricane Alpha I bought in around 1989. After about ten years or so the fly delaminated badly so it ended up in the skip. Great tent in it’s day. Went to Wales intending to do some ice climbing. When we went to bed we were pitched on snow. When we woke in the morning the weather had changed completely and we were camping in a couple of inches of water. We were bone dry though because of the neoprene tub.
Отлично, Симон, показал разновидности палаток, больше понравилась для полицейских и кухню можно и печку 👍🤝🙏✌👌
I am partial to banjo and fiddle music. Great musical accompaniment to a very interesting presentation of your various tents. I particularly like your own homebrewed Baker tent. Looking at your canvass baker tent reminded me of my years as a young boy scout. My boy scout troop back in New York State (I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico now) camped with canvass baker tents. Nostalgia is a very powerful drug! Thanks.
I love how the Backcounty 2 became the backwards 3 , still laughing 20 mins later, another great video, thanks Simon.
Me too.
You could have all your friends over for a camp out!!😀
100,000+ of us all wanting to have a cuppa with Simon - It would make world news!! LOL
@@Kenbur a little Woodstock! Hehe
Hahaha - you bring the marshmallows, I’ll bring the tents! 😁
Hi Simon no Dutch oven bread this time , man it was a lovely fluffy bread 😁
We went last week to Mackinac Island in the State of Michigan , we had toured the garrison of the British Royal Navy that was established in the early 1800s, and then handed over to the Americans . It was a wonderful trip and I hope that one day you would have a chance to camp in that paradise 👍
Great video Simon and many thanks to your Dad in law. Hope you got that cuppa!!!!!!
A tent for every purpose & plenty to share. Thats a lot of gear, but it seems we have seen you camp in most of them!
Can remember watching the making of the Baker tent vid, great job.
Got an old vango force 10 from 1976 love it! English bloke in Arizona USA all the best Simon! Miss the uk!
Thanks for showing us, Simon. Very Cool! And I hope Maggie made scale wage for modeling. LOL
Love the baker tent u made and loved that series to. Would like to see more camps with that tent though, another great video
Baker tents rule 🤠 2 can live in them even when it rains all the time & not get cabin fever.
Tent expert too... My daughters think I’m outdoorsy. I sigh, shake my head and think about you and Andy. Texas
LOL, people collect all sorts of stuff, your the first tent collector i know of. Impressive ! And I learned a few things from this vid too, thankyou .
Like your Lavvu tent cosy inside with your wood burning stove. Thanks for sharing tent collection Simon.
Thanks for the new vid Simon - it was great to see Maggie wandering around a bit. Cheers!
Can't believe you had that many tents setup and it didn't rain.
I once stood on the hill overlooking the Little Bighorn...
Your father in law's field looked very similar to what General Custer must have seen when he stood in the same spot.
As soon as the video plays I click like as I’m so grateful that you do this. :) God bless sir
That Vango tent is beautiful!!!! My gosh I can alllmost feel the quality from here haha . Nice piece keep her good she’s a good one that :)
Brilliant Simon. Cheers for the massive effort to make that video!
The home built canvas baker tent is the daddy for me. Love it. 9:22 Flatulence?
You've had the Vango Hurricane for as long as I've had my Wild Country (Pre Terra Nova) Quasar. I considered the Vango myself, iirc they won an award for the design, it was the 1st Vango tent to use the "Tension Band System" TBS and was the 1st tent that was marketed as being designed to be pitched Inner and Fly together while still retaining the ability to separate them. Most tents that pitch fly 1st can be pitched inner/fly together but Vango seem to have been the 1st to use it as a selling point due to how they zipped together. I think they came out 89-90, certainly they're listed in a Field & Trek mail order catalogue I have of that year, 2 models, Hurricane Alpha and Hurricane Beta
Hi Simon. At 1st look, I thought you ran away and joined the circus,,,lol. Great video as always and am in awe of All your tents as I only have one, a Cresent from Gander Mountain. Its a 2 person but I'm the only one in it. Have had it for over 20 years and still looks brand new. As in like yours, it's all in how you take care of your equipment. Cheers from Alabama~
This kind of shit is something I like to watch, and I guess some others do too! Greetings from Finland :)
Thanks for showing your tent collection, mate. I thought that I have a lot of tents. You put me to shame.
I’m not a summer camper anymore but when I was I would use an inner mesh tent and then use a separate tarp as my rain fly suspended above because if I just put the tent rain fly on you would bake in there like an oven
Simon, a bloke in a campsite😆 Wonderful and uplifting as ever pal👌👏👍 KTF🙏 PS: bought me a hat like what you have😆
Thanks for sharing 👍👏🏻🤝🙏😀
From Vienna 😍🇦🇹 Austria here. Stay safe..God bless 🙏
The Baker tent is my favorite one!
LOVE those Baker's tents!
Great video Simon. A tent for all seasons.
You definitely have a complete selection of good quality tents for any and all occasions. Thanks for demonstrating these. For a long time now I have maintained a minimum of a small, medium and large tent but I keep finding good deals on quality tents that I just can't pass up. Thanks for making me feel a little less abnormal by having over 10 tents in my collection.
What a choice! That’s a cool gift from Andy the bell tent mate, I keep pestering the wife to get one but she’s not having any of it 😂.
I really liked the drone shots over the top too pal.
Great choice of tent for Scotland I’d say mate, enough height to sit up in and quick to put up. Top video as always, thanks for the upload 👍
Now I can't wait to do more camping trips :)
Just what’s needed to watch on a Sunday 😊 thanks 🙏
Nice video, good music, cheers
bet the neighbours curtains were twitching when all those were getting set up🤣🤣🤣
I love the one you made. It is the best of all.
Thank you!
Interesting stuff as I'm becoming a collector
Lol 😆 - looks like you’re having your very own rave! Great vid as always 👍
I am glad to see you have more tents than i whilst being a bit of a hoarder.
kidding.
Cheers mate.
Wow!!! Thank you for sharing all these tents!!
Wow! Awesome bunch!
Nice one Simon. Thanks for sharing. I really like that Baker's tent that you made. Nice work!!
Haha love the whole setup jingle.. Awesome
Just found you, really enjoy your content! You're making me want to sleep outside tonight.
You have one understanding wife! That canvas baker tent was my favourite, what a great looking tent. Similar to my Oztent RV4. Although I dont have a wood burner for my Oztent. Not sure it would be a good idea with 2 dogs! keep the videos coming, they are really good. All the best.
Hi Simon I hope your okay, I haven't seen anything up in ages. Hopefully all is well 🥰
Best wishes
Thoroughly enjoyed each setup!! Thank you for sharing!!

Excellent video, Simon! This will be an excellent resource for many of us. Thank you!
Cracking spot that Simon, would make a lovely place for a break!
Cool tents👍
Christ! Lol. .. there's me worrying that I have too many fishing rods lol!! I must show my wife this video !! Nice video Si
Haha - no such thing as too many! 😂
Great video brother. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks!
The last tent is the type I used from 1985/6 until 2019 when a pole snapped while putting it up , I have 're water proved it once but I gave it a lot of use mainly in the mountains but also at lower levels. Fantastic tent that never let me down.
