    hello Simon! Due to my illness I can hardly leave the house! You probably won't read this message! But I want to say a big thank you for your videos! I'm Portuguese, 44 years old, a widower with 3 children and I'm on daily dialysis because I'm waiting for a kidney transplant! With your videos I can travel! I can smell nature!     I'm going through a rough patch, was diagnosed with ADHD at 41, was quite overwhelming as a father and a sole bread earner to grasp this and the unpredictable work and personal life ahead, grabbing on to the bits, and Simon you give me hope, to persevere and overcome, God bless you.

      Happy New Year, and keep getting better! My best to Mrs Woods as well! This was a nice relaxed outing, and I hope to do the same thing soon, same tent even! Hard to find Black Pudding here, but some of our British or Irish restaurants do serve it. Love it with baked beans and eggs!

    Strange watching you guys camping without a sealed up tent inner.
    Here in Australia you would likely end up spending the evening with critters that can kill you by looking sideways at you.
    Good to see you back out and about and glad that you're feeling a bit better.
    Nearly all our family and friends have had that same thing recently.

      Thats why at 68, and traveled the world, I've never volunteered for Australia! I want to go for a month or so, but I'm sure I'd get bit, stung to death. We are always given safety talks before we go, but never do they rate the wildlife deadlier than human population! Except Australia..😆😁😄

      @@stuartbrierley3381 - You don't get critters sometimes? Like raccoons, or rabbits? Those are critters..Deer wandering around your camp are also considered a "critter", but Bear tearing thru looking for food are not "critters". Camp wisely!

    Fascinating to watch, as usual. Interesting to watch the de-camping process.
    I rarely leave my sofa but I know how to light a fire, pitch a tent (multiple sorts), gather (and split) wood, cook a steak (well, almost), make breakfast and, principally, I know how to open a can of beer - or two. Love your videos. Thank you.

    Glad you're on the mend, and I hope your wife starts to feel better soon! One Christmas several years ago, when my children were very young, I had a terrible dose of the flu. All I could do was like down as still as possible. Christmas basically ground to a halt that year because I was the kingpin that made everything happen. I felt so sorry for my boys that year!

      @@simonablokeinthewoods it was! Boxing day they went off to the in-laws, leaving me lying on the sofa with a jug of water. They came home the next day and I was still in the same place. I could just about make it to the loo every now and then 😂

    We were the same Simon. I got a terrible flu before Christmas, and as I started to get better, around the 20th, my wife got sick. We cancelled our Christmas dinner at our friends, and we're both still recovering.

    Happy New Year Simon!! Your meal looked wonderful. You, Andy and a few others prove that camp food doesn't have to be a can of beans a some bread. which is great if that's what one wants! But really it 's all about how much effort one wants to put into a meal. Thanks for sharing your overnight adventure with us!! Can't wait to see your canoe trip in a couple of weeks!     Another great video thanks Simon. I got back into camping as an adult a couple of years a go to take my son and make some memories. Amazes me that when we do a night or two on a camp site we fill a small van with gear. You create a great camp including a hot tent stove and fill a rucksack 😂

    We were all sick throughout Thanksgiving and Christmas in our family. Made for a sad holiday but what can you do? So don’t feel alone. I’m sure there were many like us as well. Glad to see you’re better.

    I helped on a friend's family farm in Norway summers when at university. Farm Mom made me something else first time she made blu sausage. I did 5 years in Navy before school, and told her that I would eat what she made. No substitutes required. Kind of like liver.
