I like to put a little damp ground bait in with the maggots, it stops them coming out too quickly and gives a little scent and cloud.

Interesting how Andy advocates long hook lengths and demonstrates the hook length falling behind the feeder in a straight line. The matrix underwater series has shown that all hooklengths over 50cm generally still fall no further than about that past the feeder and take an age for a bite to register! Interested to hear his rationale?

A lot of the bites will come on the drop, obviously maggots fall a lot slower than an 8mm pellet on a great big hook. All about getting the balance right, if you are missing a lot of bites once the bait has settled then it can be worth shortening the hooklength. But going too short you miss out on a lot.

Great video as per normal. Is this set up good for both small still waters and smaller rivers and also for both cage and maggot feeder set ups?

Hi Martin, this is my go to set up when using either a maggot feeder or a cage feeder too.

Andy, how do you store such long hooklengths? I appear to have the same MAP hooklength box as you but this only allows max 24” and if you try too do multiple loops on the box I find it tangles even if they are taught?

Made me spend more money now..... I was wondering as you guys are very successful and have all the kit your hearts desire. If you had to strip it all back and were match anglers on a budget. What your your one chosen method be. If you could only pick one way to fish?

    Andy what about shockleader 0.22 or 0.24 just a shot 2 m.?

    • @richardbarrett7544

Not required with such light feeders of 10-20 grams. 5 lb line is more than enough to take the shock of small bombs and feeders Elo.

What lb is 0.20 mainline? I can't work out all these mm to lb things 😳
