Jerry, I LOVE your analysis. I've always loved this game, but never understood why White played his rook back to e1. You always seem to explain the moves I wasn't getting, and you use your time efficiently. Keep up the great work.
Wow. A MASTERPIECE.ONLY CAPABLANCA.. ITS SO SIMPLE BUT AT THE SAME TIME SO DEEP AND ACCURATE THAT ANYBODY COULD SEE WHICH WAS HIS PLAN BUT NOBODY COULD HAVE PREVENTED.HE HAS TAUGHT EVERYBODY HOW TO PLAY CHESS AFTER HIM
Wow what a brilliancy, this is a great analysis which shows the utterly brilliant minds of true Grandmasters. Awesome video, one of Capa's greatest, I've never seen such a "Royal Rook" in all my time 🥂🔥🔥
Beautiful game! I'm currently reading "Capablanca's Best Chess Endings" and this is one of the games in the book. I wish I would have read this book years ago as I never fully understood why Capablanca is revered as one of the best players in the history of the game. From a very young age he developed the ability to simplify winning positions and convert them to wins. I say developed but he truly mastered his abilities by the time he was a young adult. Had I read this book years ago I would probably be rated 200+ points higher today as I could have use Capablanca's endgames as blueprint for my own endgames and a jumping board for further development. As always, great analysis from Jerry. Cheers!
Thanks for the video Jerry! I saw Kg3, but wasn't sure about it. Then again... the King is just as much of an attacker as the other pieces in the end game. Very nice play by Capa. I'm still learning, and this was a very educational game. Cheers!
I still say that Capablanca was the strongest player ever and my favourite. There was a study done a while ago with engines that showed Capablanca to be the player that played the most correct chess however you have to take into account the competition he had and his style. But still easily top 5 of all time.
anonymous 1997 theoretically it seems you’d want to have your king behind the head pawnwith the two supports next to it, and try to get one promoted before the king and rook get together and take the supports
R, 3P, and 2 kings is 6 pieces so there is a tablebase on that. You can enter it into the free endgame tablebase on shredderchess.com and it will show you how to play every position perfectly. Not that that endgame is one of the best to learn if you're trying to improve. For that, I recommend Silman's Complete Endgame Course.
I studied it with an engine once, even against 4 pawns ( it depends how advanced and connected the pawns are, also king position plays a role) if the pawns are in the enimies position it can get dangrous, otherwise the Rook is just too fast for the pawns.
I'm reading the same book and just came across this particular game. I couldn't wait to see some analysis on the game and kicked back a little until I go through the actual game in the book. I can't wait to go back to the book (tomorrow) and continue with the rest of the games.
I wonder what's the problem with playing king to g4 before the bishop and knight are exchanged. Doesn't this allow the king to get deep into black's camp even earlier and have an easier time maintaining connected passed pawns?
Black can reply with Rg8 threatening Rg7+ skewering the rook, and if white plays Re7 protecting the rook then black can trade and wing the g6 pawn next, creating what I think is a drawn king and pawn endgame. This forces the white king back to f6 after Rg8 and is just wastes a move. the game move is more productive. But hey, that's me analysing, and I'm only rated like 1700
@coolio4695 @Temsik I had the same thought but @ 17:30. I would have thought the KF7 at this point would be checkmate and that the Rook is actually too late to defend which may be why that idea doesn't actually defend well? I am not even rated so you know, just thought about that example as not being very robust to circumvent the king + rook co-ordination if I'm understanding it correctly. I'd appreciate an explanation here thanks!
More often than not I get the right moves or the right plans when you give pop quizzes, Jerry. Nonetheless, I'm still rated below 1500. I think I need a master to set the position up for me and then say "here, there's a win, find it." ...if only.
Hey Jerry I love all your videos and livestreams But I think many would be thankful if you'd invest some money in a new microphone There are always crackling noises when you're recording or livestreaming while you're not talking It's not a big issue, just a feedback from me :) Greetings from Austria
ChessNetwork timestamp is basically 0:00 until the outro comes in , it's there all the time but when you're talking, your voice is just louder than the noise. You might only notice it with headphones, because I always hear it and I always watch with headphones And no, it's not possible that it's my headphones that produce that noise, I use many different headphones and I never hear this on other videos or livestreams, but always on yours. So it must either be your microphone or something about your audio settings / mastering. Hope that helps
Okay I just checked on an older video, from 2016 and it seems like you're using a different microphone there because of the quality of your voice But the crackling is also there So it must be the audio settings in the recording software you're using. I assume you use the same now as 2 years ago?
Great choice! This is one of my favorite endgames; and you were on the money with the analysis. Be careful with the pronunciation of Tartakower though. It is pronounced TARTAKOVER. Don't pronounce it as the last part of the word "tOWER," but rather as the vehicle brand Land ROVER. Or just as you would pronounce the word "cover": TARTA-COVER.
Jerry, I LOVE your analysis. I've always loved this game, but never understood why White played his rook back to e1. You always seem to explain the moves I wasn't getting, and you use your time efficiently. Keep up the great work.

What a brilliant display by Capablanca. This was a wonder game to showcase and break down. Thanks, Jerry. :)
First time i ever got the right answer when you ask for the next move! Feelsgoodman!
Zach Shepherd Great job! I am learning slowly too.
I thought it was Ke2, not because of the meme though, it seemed like a good position to defend the pawns
Wow what a brilliancy, this is a great analysis which shows the utterly brilliant minds of true Grandmasters. Awesome video, one of Capa's greatest, I've never seen such a "Royal Rook" in all my time 🥂🔥🔥
Jerry with the uploads! Keep it up
Capalanca endgame and overall stratigic play is well known and regarded even to this day, good to see a game by him.
Nice explanation Jerry. Thanks!
Thank you
I appreciate your complete analysis without excessive commentary on all the optional play. Keep up the good work!

As always very instructive lecture

I think first or the last game would be enough
We don't want to see Capablanca lose. :-/
Good analysis, Chess Network.
A nice Capablanca analysis on my birthday.
Thanks, Jerry.
Lots of love
Happy Birthday Dude! 👍
TheDude21 Happy b day man!
Great video Jerry! I'm quite glad I found Kg3 there. I love Capablanca's style, but had not seen this game yet.
I've seen this game in so many books, it's just fantasticly done by Capablanca
Lovely video!
Just as i was about to sleep, a notification rang. Good job keeping me awake, Jerry!
Yeah.. way to go, Jerry! Keeping us entertained like that..
Thank you Jerry

Feeling it to be similar to Magnus Caruanna 2018 game watched in the morning.Thanks.
Thnx for this game The Great Jerry
Can u please make a video about rook vs 3 pawns endgame
I have searched everywhere and no results. Hope u will help me out

Guys suggest me a engine for learning chess im using deep fritz trial version
+, at 13:24 it is not obvious how to win for white against connected 4 pawns and king
I love your tutorials!
Thanks!😎
You better follow the Dutch rules. -GM Varuzhan Akobian.
awesome thank you Jerry-n-CN.! ray in browns-town..
very nice game
"straightforward" is probably a better word than "simplistic", yes?
A great video about a great game! This is my favourite game from Chernev's book "Capablanca's Best Chess Endings".
Thank you Ryan. I appreciate that. It’s a gem...many books probably have it. 👍🏼

Can you distinguish the essence of Morphy from the essence of Capablanca?
move 37, can someone explain why not Rook to D7?

Wait till Jerry brings Tom. Then the fun will begin
Jerry is back in business. We want a 960 tournament!
at 10:40 why not Kg4 Rxc3 Bxf5 gxf5 Kxf5 - it seems better to just position the king to recapture the pawn before capturing the knight
Maybe because white needed to keep black's f pawn on the board in order to eventually block the white king from checks when on the f6 square?
I wonder what's the problem with playing king to g4 before the bishop and knight are exchanged. Doesn't this allow the king to get deep into black's camp even earlier and have an easier time maintaining connected passed pawns?
Awesome job😘❤❤❤❤
Somewhere in the middepart of the video, I saw that the white bishop could check the king. Is that a weak point? I ask this as a beginner to chess.
16:22
Yes that was excessively nifty - genius baseball level strategy…!
savage title lol
Whats the downside to pushing the white king forward to F7 @ 14:17 ?
Black can reply with Rg8 threatening Rg7+ skewering the rook, and if white plays Re7 protecting the rook then black can trade and wing the g6 pawn next, creating what I think is a drawn king and pawn endgame. This forces the white king back to f6 after Rg8 and is just wastes a move. the game move is more productive.

Why does Capablanca look like G ez
what is G Eazy doing on the screen of the video?
Move 14, why didn’t white play d6?
👍👍👍 coverage

There can only be a brilliancy when there is a corresponding mistake by the opponent.
Well played capablanca
Excellent KP endgame
what a game !!
Capablanca is amazing I mean he destroyed the MArshall Gambit on first play. The gambit still used even tho the first time MArshall lost!
There was an additional pawn move in there that was better.
There are 21 persons; each knows at max 4 (if A knows B, then B knows A of course). Prove that there always are 5 people who don't know each other
So what is gonna happen if Tartakover would play a6, b5, etc. Will Capablanka lose in this case?
Nines Rodrigez probably this is a balanced endgame because both sides have the same amount of pawns and quality pawns
not sure why black got rid of that beautiful light square bish
velo exactly my question.
it was a great blockader of white's kingside majority, and it wouldn't have been easy to target g6
Got some snacks, let's watch!
THis is better than xvideos

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I’ll look into it. There are many variables so it’s not so easy to pinpoint.
ChessNetwork I hope I was helpful and I hope you know what crackling I'm talking about

I watched this whole video. I wish I played chess.
I hate how Capablanca makes it look so easy.
