    This video is not a technique it is a drill, you won't be fighting like that in real life. Drills usually helps you be familiar with the advance techniques that you will learn when they teach you(the reason I'm saying this is because so many people on the comments are thinking that this video is a technique the can be used in a real knife fight)

    Love technique; but i dont feel comfortable using that 1# section, drill with two hands crossing. Shouldve be 1,2,3,4,;5,6,7,8,9 ,10, etc. LoL! the first drills was 5 movements not 4?

    This is a question for anyone in the FMA community. I live in Europe and i train modern arnis. Most of the videos i watch from America, call it Kali, or sometimes Escrima. Are these all names for the same thing (FMA). Or do the names mean a slightly different style of FMA.

      Here's what I found to explain it
      Kali is a non-Filipino term. It's a generic, umbrella term for stick fighting but no Filipino ever uses it to describe FMA. Arnis and Escrima is basically the same thing, at least in modern times. Arnis is the term used in Northern Philippines, Escrima is what is used in the middle and southern islands.

      Union Martial Arts That's great to hear! My friends an I practice FMA and DBMA for stick fighting competitions. It'd be cool to have a chance to learn some honest to god Kali from you. I stay following ypur videos!

    Im a Kali practitioner and an avid follower of yours, I love what you do but I have been taught that the way that you grip the knife is weak ie. you arent using your thumb fully to grip the handle in either position. What is your reason for gripping the knife the way that you do?

    Wow!!! This is amazing!!! Just imagine two experts or grandmasters doing this at full speed! At a faster speed it would look like a knifing version of Wing chun kung fu STICKY HANDS. Look that up, its an amazing thing to witness in the combat world!!!

    That knife grabbing is inferior. You are giving an advantadge to your opponent that may be crucial.

      Exactly. Maybe some people WANT to train and know something than running. Not that we only will fight and never run, but dude it i an ART! It is an activity! It is healthy! It makes you smarter! Why not train Kali!! I do Ensayo Kali Tactical from Malabon City in Metro Manila.

      There are always counter-attacks to any attack - and there are counters-attacks to those counters. Learning good flow drills improves hand-eye coordination and quickens muscle twitch reactions that goes above and beyond fighting.
      Then there's the fact; running isn't always an available option, and you may actually have to fight for your life.
      As Guro Jason Inay says, if you don't think Kali/Eskrima is an effective combative art, you're doing it wrong... ;)
      Beyond that, learning FMA is crazy fun...

    1st Mistake. Smashing bone on bone does major damage to your weapons in real world. Should your weapon dislocate from your grip, the pain from a fractured or bruised bone would hinder your ability to suppress the influx of the engagement.
    2nd mistake muscle memory is useful when applied correctly. For bladed weapons, I would not suggest this type of regimen.
    Lastly your movements and technique are premature in nature. Simplicity is key to all things.

      1. smashing bone on bone only hinders you if you're a weak ass bitch.
      2. muscle memory is useful for recognizing and capitalizing on reference points. anyone who trains anything practical knows this.
      Lastly, you fail to understand the principles behind drills. Hence, you are a dumbass. you probably do krav maga lol...
