How do I move forward with 12 years of similar likes and dislikes, that everything is a reminder? Embracing everything that I love individually, riding, hiking, etc. etc., is a catalyst for even more pain. Every step of 17 miles of trails reminds meof the loss of my fantasy, the loss of my wife.

after 22 years of marriage and two daughters, she's asked for a divorce and we've signed the papers. I'm a wreck. She told me she's been thinking about divorce for the past two years, but when I've asked about counseling she says it's too late. I'm lost as I am very depressed with the challenge of moving forward without her and our whole family unit. What hurts more is it seems she is just "fine" if not happy as she moves forward.

I’m on the same boat, 14 years of marriage and two kids. After only a couple of months of separation she started seeing someone new. It’s been five months since separation and she treats me like a total stranger. We communicate strictly about the kids. I feel lost and confused about how we got here. She claims she just slowly fell out of love. Just know that you’re not alone as others are on the same journey of grieving and picking up what pieces of yourself are left.

As a Catholic Christian, I unite my sorrow, loneliness, pain, disappointment, sadness, shame, anger, resentment, physical illness, mental and emotional wounds to Christ's suffering. All of which pale in comparison to His suffering for our sins.
I no longer willingly carry these items. I asked for forgiveness through Reconciliation and Penance.
You have to get up and be willing to do the work of surrender and forgiveness to your spouse. You're angry? You have a right to, but don't hold on to it.
    Pax Christi Salve Regina.

@@RachaelSloanRelationshipCoach the most specific thing I can say is to try to think about what part of my body I feel my sadness in. I'm not sure why but it does seem to help keep things at a manageable level. I guess trying to identify where on my physical body I feel emotional pain helps it seem more finite.

@@johncapito4066 thank you. If you’re curious about why that helps, I have a free masterclass that explains it in more detail. When you focus on the physical sensations you activate a part of your conscious brain that communicates directly with the limbic system, which is where emotions originate. The science behind it is pretty cool!
You can find the masterclass with all the details in the free version of my Better Beyond Divorce App. You can get it here if you’d like the deeper dive: resources.rachaelsloancoaching.com/bbd-community-sign-up1692041471505?inf_contact_key=fa61e53f2836baf1077448fdb54715ae

Am I crazy for almost wishing my wife had cheated on me so it would be easier to hate her? I do feel mostly anger but I also know that we had a toxic relationship for most our 17 years and in a situation like that it’s not just one person. I know I am not good with stress management and neither was she. I just was willing to do anything to fix our marriage and she wasn’t willing to do anything

Right?!? But it totally is. I live in Oaxaca, Mexico, up in the mountains at about 8300 feet above sea level. Summer is the rainy season here, and it is often misty and cool... so totally sweater weather even though everyone else in the world seems to be baking right now 😂
