Who doesn't love some good drone footage? But honestly, its not super educational to see it. I don't own a drone and I doubt most angler's are taking drones fishing. When you are out on the beach looking out at the surf, that's what the average guy's perspective will be. So knowing how to read the water from that perspective I think is more important. Maybe you could use the drone footage, but put it side by side will a timecode synced shot from a chest cam.
Thank you again for always be willing to try new stuff! I told you they’d bite the smaller profile… for the resin bomb or similar lures you really gotta be willing to work the bait hard and fast…. I stole his retrieval style with actually designed lures and am not looking back or apologizing… I still love the jerk baits too‼️🍻
Great content. I am interested in what you store your "keeper" fish in to take home and cook. I have not seen many videos on the types of products out there to keep your fish on ice for a day of fishing in the sun. (I know you can use coolers with ice in bags). I would welcome any comments or recommendations you have on that (or even point me to one of your videos if you have reviewed that type of product). Thanks!
Yes! More of these! I'm learning a TON. One thing that would help me is to know approximately where you are landing your casts in relation to the structures. Maybe you could put some red X's on the photo with your red ovals?
You probably won't catch any red tails where you're at. Red tails have a size limit of 10.5 inches. Max limit is 20 perch , but only 10 of one species's. The only exception is 20 shiner perch. Inside the san Francisco bay the limit is only 5.

(b) Open Season: Open all year, except surfperch may not be taken or possessed by a person in San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay between April 1 and July 31, inclusive. Shiner surfperch (Cymatogaster aggregata) are exempt from this seasonal closure and may be taken and possessed up to their daily bag limit in these areas during the closure period. (c) Daily bag limits: (1) In San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, the aggregate limit is five surfperch, not including shiner surfperch. You should try some heavy surfer 90 they are a 3/4 Oz 90 size jerk bait that casts a mile and they come in great colors I've caught quite a few perch on those they're just a bit harder to work kind of a walk the dog action

I'm very new to socal surf fishing but I've been using big 115 lucky craft and calissa and not gonna lie I've only been catching big perch at least 12" and yellowfin croker that are 13 to 18". I get less bites but when I do they're big
Edward amazing video man!! Love seeing you out there with papa Leroy. I love these videos and drone shots of you breaking down the water. So much knowledge. You got the limit and left them biting!! Seems like the still calissa really shines up against the other lures. It’s still cool to mess around with other lure options though. Whenever I find a bait that works for me I always fish it hard. Maybe a confidence thing?? Idk. I get stuck in my ways sometimes when I like a lure. It’s still always good to try other lures though which you definitely gave a shot in this vid.
Nice work with the drone footage! Did you use a polarizer? The different camera angles with Leroy as a reference point relative to the troughs, sandbar, etc., really helped with the visualization. Well done!
I just want to mention [if no one has yet in this comments section] that if it's a red tail surf perch, which looks similar to the barred, limit is still 10 (in combination with any other fish in the perch family, except shiners) but they have to be at least 10.5 inches to keep. However, they're native to the Pacific North West so I don't think you have to worry about it too much if you live and fish in So Cal. If you live in the PNW, then make sure to be able to identify between the two if you're planning to keep your catch for dinner.
Thank you again , great episode , if you can make an episode on all 3 colors of the bomb lures , maybe one of the other colors might be more effective, due to watercolor and the weather.....
another great video. I really enjoy the drone shots of where the structure is and the layout of the surf. would it be possible to splice some drone footage in with your on the ground angle? i'm just starting on the surf journey but it doesn't always look the same from ground level out at the surf.

So im not sure where you are from but i was curious if you do the high and low rigs. That's what i have been learning from people in Washington. I really enjoy the content you are showing and im definitely going to try some of the lures.
We do high low rigs for rock fish. This lighter style keeps us more mobile to cover water. Plus for many it’s much more enjoyable feeling vicious strikes vs tap tap and weight.
@Hook2Cook that makes sense. I'll definitely try that out. Just subscribe to your channel and been watching your videos all morning! It's great stuff. 👍
I like your content. Very informative. I'm new to surf fishing and I'm looking for a Rod. Any suggestions would help. I see you have one from More Than Fishing. What is the blue one you're using here?
What was the hookup ratio on the Calissa between you and Leroy? It seems Leroy’s stock Calissa was more productive than your modified Calissa without a center hook and with the two upgraded hooks. I’m thinking the difference might be hook wire gauge, swim action, balance, buoyancy, etc. Either that or Leroy was at a better biting spot.
Great video quick question the new Calissa's that I'm getting from amazon have a spinner on the back hook have you tried fishing with them or do you remove them?
Yes change out the hooks if you dont plan on fighting the fish with very loose drag. I remove the middles treble and replace the front and back with VMC size 4 4X strong hooks. 2 of those hooks weigh the same amount as 3 stock hooks.

I’m starting to understand from a high drone view but for those like me without one it’s really hard to read the water from ground view. I’ve been all your videos about reading the waves more than once and I’m still struggling! Help!
The goal is to understand what the bottom looks like based on what the water is doing on the surface. the surf is constantly moving and changing. take time to watch a section of beach next time you're out. watch some sets of waves come in and out especially after catching fish.
