  • YORKSHIRE DALES TOUR FEATURING BRIMHAM ROCKS, PATELEY BRIDGE AND HOW STEAN GORGE
    "Natural Beauty of Nidderdale”
    Filmed 1st November 2016
    Post-production completed 5th February 2017
I spend a day exploring the lovely Nidderdale in the Yorkshire Dales. After a spectacular start at the amazing Brimham Rocks I visit the pretty town of Pateley Bridge containing the oldest sweet shop in England. Heading north I visit Gouthwaite Reservoir to finish at the fascinating How Stean Gorge, where I need to wear my hard hat…..
Filmed in the Yorkshire Dales in the county of North Yorkshire. Locations include Brimham Rocks, Pateley Bridge, Gouthwaite Reservoir, Ramsgill and How Stean Gorge.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

Nidderdale is indeed a hidden gem. I went back for a brief visit the following year, without the camera, and enjoyed a leisurely day looking around. Thanks for watching 👍

As a Yorkshireman I am ashamed to say that I have never been to Nidderdale and boy am I missing out, Brimham Rocks and Pateley Bridge look absolutely lovely. This is a fabulous film with superb music. Loved it and must visit myself as soon as possible. Thanks for your effort as usual Patrick, great job.

Yorkshire as a whole is such a huge county though isn't it, so it's no wonder there will be places there you won't have visited as yet. Glad you liked this one, it's another personal favourite due to the music. Many thanks 👍

Wow Patrick every film you make introduces us to great new places.
Loved Pateley Bridge, especially the sweet shop and Police box,and the gorge was incredible,it's like a ready made film set,I have to visit this year.
My wife is hoping to go on a few weekend breaks this year and mentions places like Malaga,Bruges and Budapest.
She will love Harlech,Clitheroe and Pately Bridge !
Another superb film, the up tempo music really suited it,love the parts that seem unplanned where you break off from talking about the walk and tell us a tale about someone you have just met, you're a natural in front of camera and your warmth and friendly spirit come through.
Definately another one added to my to go to list.
    Cheers Patrick.
    Pete.

This was the very next day after I had been to Ilkley, so my cold had really come into full swing by this time. I was planning on making two films in Nidderdale, but because of the way I was feeling at the time, I decided to do as little walking as possible and film a whistle top tour of the area instead and make this one film. As it happened this turned out to be another of my personal favourites, and the up tempo music you mentioned was one I was especially pleased with. I returned to Pateley Bridge (without the camera) early in the following year for a leisurely trip out, and called in to say hello to Keith, the sweet shop owner. He is also the Chairman of the Nidderdale Chamber of Trade, so he works hard to promote Pateley Bridge, and was very kind in sharing my video which helped it gain more views. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick :)

The TV gardener Geoffrey Smith was always talking about the beauty of Nidderdale where he use to live. One of the benefits of it not being within the National Park, is that it is off the tourist trail and spared from the throngs of visitors so characteristic of the other Yorkshire Dales.

Patrick youve become an action man ... discovering caves ,and the like , I have to admit before this film i d never heard of nidderdale ... which i find unbelieveable , and to find out it had its own railway ,even more surprising , Il have to do , my homework on different gauge railways mate ....Not to much walking footage involved this time but i am sure you did cover a fair distance....
Myself and Lee ,very much enjoyed this film , but it just makes us realise how limited we are by our lack of driving ability having said that we still manage to get to lots of places and it wont stop us getting out and about , so thank you once again ,As always a very enjoyable journey with you Patrick ..... Best Wishes from Myself and Lee , and until the next time , take care .....Ps ... We did spot The TARDIS ............

    • @solitaryrambler
      @solitaryrambler  7 років тому +1

I'm glad you spotted the TARDIS, I only wish I tried to go inside :-) I was originally planning on making two films in Nidderdale, each featuring a walk, but at the time I was feeling really rough with this cold, so I chose on the day to try and make it easier for myself and do less walking. However it was still a long day of filming due to the wider area that I covered, but that's no complaint as it was still highly enjoyable. Thanks as always Frank and Lee for watching, Cheers, Patrick :-)

That was fabulous. I have never been to Nidderdale but it looks wonderful. I have to say the music score you composed for this video is just spot on and goes with the footage perfectly.

Thanks Debbie! There's actually another cave there where you've literally got to crawl through and get wet at the same time, so I didn't even attempt that one!! Cheers, Patrick :-)

I couldn’t do the cave but the rocks look really interesting. I am in NT too and had the same problem at the car park at MamTor.!

I couldn't go any further in this tight cave hence turning back. I think NT parking meters have improved since I was here back in 2016! 👍
