Howzit guy's . . . awesome show. I bought my MAGFORCE in 1986 . I'm now 66 yrs old & I still have mine as a collector's item. Now using a grandwave 40 ,& enjoying it. Fishing lighter now.
Howzit fishous nice to see the members growing. Lekker to see these old multipliers but I would never go back to using one. Too many memories of birds nests
I have a little TLD 10 that casts a mile Ironically some of the winning kob in our kobtober comp were caught on multipliers and mono sliding out big live mullet, its a skill we all should still have, its not that difficult.
You guys should get one of the field casting guys to do a basic tutorial on the cast control on multipliers and how to set them up properly. The spool tension knob is not to prevent over-winds, it is to align the spool. The cast control (magnetic and/or centrifugal) if setup up properly should not cost distance, it should add distance. It's primary purpose is not to prevent over-winds, it is to add distance. Reducing the chances of an overwind is an added benefit. All the world casting records are on multipliers using the reel's cast control. Multipliers have lost popularity because very few SA anglers know how to set them up correctly which means that the reel is in effect being handicapped and not performing at it's full potential. A correctly setup multiplier casts a long way with little chance of an overwind.
Yeh and No, we all used the side knob to control the speed of our sinker drop, to fast and you were looking for trouble and too slow and distance was poor, I think the mag allows you to throw harder with confidence and definitely helped control overwinds to the ends of a cast, I get that the side knob was to control free play, but we spent decades casting these reels further than we should have. My casting style is so embedded that I still punch over my shoulder rather than the wild swing most grinder anglers prefer.
As I say. Spend some time on a field with a field caster. I think that many very experienced anglers will be surprised at what a modern multiplier is capable of in terms of distance and ease of casting when set up properly. Slowing the fall of the sinker with the cast control knob is like driving with your handbrake up.
I also find there is a huge difference between distance casting in a controlled environment and real world casting. I have a old Shimano TLD 10 lever drag with no speed control that I easily cast an unclipped bait beyond 100m with a 4oz or 5oz. Going for 150m plus casts gets difficult and normally leads to frustration on the rocks, often softer baits fall apart when you cast to hard
@@donczns Agreed. It would be very impractical to do a full field casting pendulum under most fishing conditions, but setting up the reel properly will make casting far easier and more enjoyable, and most likely add some distance to even a fishing cast. It's about more distance with less effort, not maximum distance. I only mention consulting with a field caster because they understand the fundamentals of cast control better than most fisherman who only fish. Almost all field casters fish as well, so they understand the constraints of casting under fishing conditions.
@@MaxHarding-s6q There aren't any East Londoners I know of. Pendulum if done poorly though can also snap rods etc. Despite being big I load and time far more than strength
Thanks for the video I have the 35+ year old Magforce SMF 250 .. I am looking for a replacement parts for this reel to restore the reel to its original state 🎖️
