      Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated 👍🏻. Glad the videos are helpful. I think the Stoeger is a good second hand buy, especially seeing as they seem pretty tough and respond well to a bit of tuning. Is yours the version with the wood stock?

      @@nickvending9688 Mine is identical to the version in your video, although I think is has had a tune up at some point, either that or I've got the elusive responsive trigger. Once again great videos 👍

      It could be worth checking if someone has fitted a bearing in the trigger assembly, that could be why the trigger is working well. I would have done it to the gun in the series but there wasn't the budget for it.
      Good choice with the composite stock, they are pretty tough.

    nice one mate 👍 cool video for sure . i hate those clips always come off ok but normally ping one all around the room putting them back on 😂😂😂 piston weights well it’s a subject that’s for sure . i find it usually slows down the gun and you get more recoil as the weight slams up the piston . but not buy a massive amount. top hat made of lighter stuff speeds up the process and can take a bit of the twang away with a good piston sleeve and guide as for power hard to say for me as i put spring to set up using and adjust to get the power were i want it

      Thanks Paul, much appreciated 👍🏻. Glad it isn't just me that has that problem with the clips. I've never understood why piston weights are fitted, as you say a decent non-metallic top hat does a much better job.

      When I first shot it I couldn't believe how badly it grouped. I filmed a pellet testing video but the results were so bad that I figured I would get backlash and accusations that it was me that couldn't shoot (the internet is an odd place sometimes) so I didn't post it.
      I did show the targets in a project update video.
      When I tested the gun over the Chrony the results suggested there was a problem, hence the teardown and repair video.
      The trigger still needs improvement but due to perfectly understandable budget constraints from the owner I won't be doing the RC bearing mod.
      I did think about buying the wooden stock version for myself and start the process again from a new rifle to see if it is any better. Maybe later this year.
      What trigger did you fit, was it the Charlie D Tuna?

      Apologies yes, I should have mentioned that.
      Each time I've removed a piston seal it has been because it was scrap, so I just proceeded on autopilot. I must learn to give more information when I'm filming.
      I use the hot water treatment to fit the new piston seals, still a nerve wracking process though.

      @nickvending9688  Рік тому

      Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated. Is the scope at the limit of its adjustment or can you zero it to bring the point of impact where you want it?
      I wouldn't use silicon oil, it can cause galling.
      Bisley, Express or Napier gun oils are best for lubrication. Browning Legia spray for protection from corrosion. Personally I don't clean airgun barrels unless it was dieseling, I prefer to let the lead build up as a lubricant and coating in the barrel. I only clean the barrel if accuracy goes or if I've used old or dry pellets.

    End of scope,was touching the barrel that would never zero so did you put it on for video if not whats going on with the scope touching just before the loading port

      Hello thank you for your comment much appreciated 👍🏻.
      As mentioned in the video, I didn't fit the scope, the gun came to me for work. There is actually a tiny gap between the objective and the cylinder, the objective is adjustable and it turns freely when fitted to the rifle. So while yes it looks close, it is not actually touching.
      I think that the gun's accuracy issues are internal, we shall see after the rebuild.

    Interesting to see what is inside! Have you ever taken the Gamo apart? Mine seems to diesel a bit after a lack of use (then it goes to normal in a few shots and sets about trying to kill the attached scope).

      Hello
      Thank you for your comment much appreciated.
      Sorry to hear that your spring broke.
      From the pictures of the A30 that I've seen I think they are basically the same as the X20.
      If you are in the UK it looks like you are limited to a Titan spring, no.11 I believe but please check that before buyingas I'm going by info on one seller's website. I'd bet it will push power up over the 12ftln limit, so please make sure the rifle is chronograph tested after fitting the spring and check it again after you've used it a bit.
      I don't like fitting Totan springs because of having to alter them, but they do damp.down spring reverb and they do last well.
      The spring I fitted was a Titan No.6 spring from a Mk6 BSA Meteor, as you can see it needed a lot of work.
      Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else.

      @nickvending9688  Рік тому +1

      All I did to the trigger was change the screw for a longer one. It is still terrible, but at least now it is a bit lighter. There is a mod using a roller bearing from a radio control car, I haven't tried it due to not having anything suitable in my stash of Tamiya spare parts.

      @@nickvending9688 Awesome tip on the bearing. I have plenty of tamiya ww2 1/35 armour kits in my stash but no RC.
      I wasn't planning on spending over 200-300 on a cheap plinker/beater, and I wont be shooting at great distances nor that often most likely. In your humble opinion I've seen a s/h stoger x20 for £170 or a s/h bsa lighting xl tactical (prefer tactical to wood), for £275 on guntrader, which would you recommend? The cheapskate in me favours the x20

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Рік тому +1

      £170 seems way too much for a second hand X20, I thought they weren't that price new.
      For me out of those two it would be the BSA, while they have their issues they are much better than the Stoegers. The trigger is better too.
      For £275 I reckon you could get a s/h Weihrauch. A Richter Optik scope in a decent one piece mount is ideal without breaking the bank.

    • @ClarkesonTheMarksman
      @ClarkesonTheMarksman Рік тому

      @@nickvending9688 Admittedly £170 is a tad excessive, obviously I have looked at full retail price on other websites. Generally speaking they sell for 180 brand new I've seen some as little as 130 on offer, but they had sold out. I'm a sucker for the tactical aesthetics man. The Weihrauch HW97's ticks the boxes and looks sexi, especially with some of the laminates they supply but the price is rather more than i'd like to spend, I will have a look on guntrader.
      Thank you for your advice

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  15 днів тому +1

      It's the spring guide. It is an odd design and won't be helping with the harshness of the shot cycle. As far as I could tell, removing it will rob power because it adds preload to the spring, also locates the spring properly. Perhaps try adding a non metal spacer between the spring and the guide. If you are in a country with airgun power limits you would then need to check that the spacer hasn't made it too powerful, you'd need to shorten the spring to bring the power back down.

      You need some sort of spring guide, if nothing else to position the spring correctly. So you'd need to replace it with something the same dimensions but made from a non metallic material.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688  Рік тому

      I had to carefully select the adjustment screw because if it was too long the gun would not cock, if it was backed out it would come loose (which made no sense seeing as in theory it is under tension).
      I wasn't able to do the bearing modification on this rifle due to lack of budget from the owner (hence almost no new parts beyond the seals). I know some people totally remove the adjustment screw when they do the bearing mod and some leave it in.
      Sometimes the bearing modification can cause the trigger to stick after the first stage, so if it is released without fully pulling the trigger it won't return to the start of the first stage, which doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

      Hi Nick, found an 11mm long 3mm cap screw and installed it just to the point I felt some resistance did not attempt to go any further. The gun cocks,saftey works,no discharge on severe bump test, time to squeeze the trigger, almost hair trigger, tried it 5 times and the results the same, one huge change from a 6 pound drag to soft as. Easy to hold for free hand shooting as your trigger finger now does not pull the rifle off targer. Many thanks for your suggestion about the screw ,it works.
