NV123 BSA Ultra SE. Stuck Pellets & Won't Cock
Note to UA-cam, there is no assembly, abuse or selling of firearms in this video. No reason to demonetise it and no reason to age restrict it.
Anyway, back to the video. The moral of the story, try not to get multiple pellets stuck in your barrel.
Sorry to do the CMOA bit, but I take no responsibility for any damage as a result of copying this video.
Good luck.

Well that was a shock. My HW98 decided it identifies as an unregistered firearm so that needed sorting out. Enter a Tin Bum Tuning Kit with short stroke. Will it fit, will it work? Will it ruin my favourite airgun? Some of these questions may be answered, probably in the comments before I have a chance to film part 2. You're playing with fire making these videos. You are shooting an unregistered firearm for everyone to see. It doesn't matter that you are trying to reduce its power. The police don't care what caused it to be over the limit, all they care about is you have a firearm and it carries a five year jail sentence. I've worked on air rifles for fifty years and I'm telling you for your own good, give it to someone that knows what he's doing or don't advertise the fact you have a firearm.

  • @geoffankrett7012

    You've got a firearm and just told everyone on the internet. As it is now a firearm. You aren't allowed to work on it. Try practicing what you preach 😮

      Actually I believe I demonstrated what every responsible airgun owner should do, which is keep an eye on your airguns lest they stray over the limit and resolve accordingly. If airgun owners can't test and/or fix it themselves then they should take it to someone that can. My point was that it isn't cool or funny to tune your airguns up over the limit. But anyway, thank you for watching and thank you for commenting.

      @@nickvending9688 Actually what you have demonstrated is your complete and utter lack of respect for the law. You have very clearly admitted that you are the owner of a firearm and shot it. There is no leniency for ignorance. You are lecturing people on the legality of air weapons in the UK while working on a firearm. It's against the law to handle a firearm without a licence. Don't take my word for it, ring firearms and ask them if you feel so confident enough.

    Giraffe 2 years late. I bought an SMK PR900W in 2019 but have hardly used it. I do like it though. Even if it had been available I wouldn't have bought a Diana Stormrider the additional 20 odd quid would have been the reason though. There are as you commented quite a few budget PCP air rifles which are obviously based on the SMK Victory/Artemis platform. I personally don't much like plastic stocks but they do have their uses particularly in tropical environments (I used to live in Queensland) and had several polymer stocked rifles in .223, 7.62x39, .308 Winchester (all Wetherby) and 7.62x54 R Stockman (my companies own brand) for various applications. My .460 Wetherby had a wooden stock and was far too pretty to take out often and then only for Buffalo. Now I am back in the UK and stuck with sub 12ft lb air rifles. 😭

      Hey, better late than never! Please check out the budget PCP series for what can be done with a PR900W, I love mine although like you I don't use it much. What were the Wetherbys like? I believe they are made by Howa? I'll have to research Stockman, I've not heard of them, interesting that they made a 7.62x54R Could you apply for a UK firearms licence? Don't be put off by the scaremongering, it takes time but we'll worth it.

    I remember an article in one of the airgun mags a long time ago where the Venom tuning guy was showing how to remove coils. He cut the coil and then flattened it using a blow torch and then dunked it in water to quench it. This then creates very hard, but brittle steel, so he finally grinds it flat and the heat from the grinding turns the steel blue which indicates its been tempered back to spring steel. I did the same when I was sorting my brothers HW98 and it worked a treat. I cut it a little shorter than I needed and used PTFE shim washers to add back some preload for easier adjustment in future.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688 14 днів тому

      Hello, thank you for the information, very much appreciated. I prefer to use old engine oil in place of water. But ideally I don't want to modify another spring after this farce. My patience wears a bit thin when working on airguns, I get it not working first time, or second, or third but this really took the proverbial.

    • @geoffankrett7012
      @geoffankrett7012 19 годин тому

      That is the correct way of doing it. Just collapsing the spring is basically the same as putting a stack of washers at the back of it. You should always cut the spring and collapse the last coil. Using square section springs are better because they don't suffer with spring twang as the round springs do.

    What a coincidence. Got my old BSA Scorpion FT gun out yesterday for a bit of 10m paper punching. As I eased the Finale Match Light pellet into the breech it came to a sudden stop. Ten minutes later, after much gentle knocking on the end of my cleaning rod, out of the breech popped three deformed pellets. My son was the last person to use the gun, and he'll get a piece of my mind next time he comes over. Still, no harm done, the rifle shot just as well as it always does once the blockage was removed 🙂

      @@nickvending9688 Long story. Friend of mine asked me if I'd like to join him at a local FT club. Not having too much cash on hand at the time I had to go the economy route. My old Mk1 Scorpion got a used Ginb skeleton stock, with a UK Neil butt hook and silencer cum barrel weight cum air stripper. It is a super accurate air rifle which had been previously tweaked by UK Neil. To finish the rig I bought a battered but functional Big Nikko scope for not too much money on the BBS and job done for a rookie FT shooter. If you get a good BSA barrel the accuracy is astounding and can keep up with much more expensive kit. Shame they sold out to Gamo.

      Hopefully this video shows it's better to buy a decent kit from the off rather than trying to modify over power springs to work. The gun actually shoots quite well, but I'm not happy with it and will be rebuilding it soon with a better (at present secret) spring.

    Not a fan of short stroking these imo they don’t need it For what been spent you could of had the piston glided by a proper tuner with guides to match the original spring 👍🏻 Nice clear video and good to mention about power levels 😊

      Yep, I agree with you fully. These kits had a lot of recommendations in the comments on other videos, so I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. As I'm sure you can tell, I can't see what the fuss is all about... Still, at least it is legal now, albeit extremely legal.

      It was a shame. I did get a replacement which works fine, but being honest it doesn't blow me away. I like the Gamo single stroke pneumatic pistols. I would like a go with the Beeman and it's Weihrauch twin to see why there is the price difference or are they just the same pistol.

      Hello, the name is: Irwin Quick-Grip Heavy Duty One-Handed Bar Clamp/Spreader I bought mine from Screwfix, most DIY stores sell them. Measure the length you need and buy the clamp that's a bit longer. I only recommend the heavy duty irwin clamps, I've had other brands shatter which really wasn't helpful.

      @nickvending9688 I have the same one min it's consistent then it goes to shit , I had h&n ftt 14.66g 5.55mm head size pellets running between 601 fps 11.76 fpe to 614 fps 12.28 fpe ( a little hot I know ) but I the tried jsb 15.89g pellets and it jumped to 13.30 fpe , I've just removed a small slip washer and the ftt are down to around 10.3 fpe I'm beyond frustrated 😠 also I'm using a combro mk4 so I'm also convinced the slight recoil is giving a false reading as it's attached to the barrel idk 🤷‍♂️

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688 Місяць тому

      @peterconnor4193 I've noticed sudden jumps with mine but it is then repeated when shooting the rifle and usually due to burning off grease giving sudden hot shots. I'm not struck on the barrel mounted chronographs, I feel the recoil will falsely increase power but must confess I haven't done a side by side comparison.

    How did things go with your replacement? I've just got it's Beretta sister and have been loving it so far, they seem to be maybe copies of Umarex's pistols and while I've not the funds to risk it I'd be intrigued if the Mags interchange. Are you shooting right handed here? I get it aswell but it could be possible you've got a touch of the Gorilla grip when pulling the trigger, Right handed shooters go to the right and lefties to the left (Im ambidextrous so manage it both ways lol), try and conciously make your trigger pull more gentle and you might see it straighten a bit although anything smoothbore as you probably know gets a mind of its own.

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688 Місяць тому

      Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated. The replacement works well, but must admit I haven't used it a lot and I haven't really bonded with it. It is mostly used as a static display piece. Thank you for the tip with trigger pull, I'll give it a go.

    Just re watched your video , i spent yesterday in my garage here in florida absolutely covered in sweat, my latest project is my 1987 diana 52 .22 , it was originally around 22fpe , i shortened the spring not to long ago and had it running between 18-20fpe and it was shooting really nice , in the not to distant future we are moving back to the uk , i have spent a considerable amount of money and a whole lot of time getting my air rifles sub 12fpe, the 12fpe law has become a major pima , 😢, instead of buying another $100+ kit i decided to try and use an old spring out of a diana 34 in my 52 , the coil diameter and spring diameter is not the same but very close Jesus what a pita , anyway its now down to 12.5fpe with about 1.5 inches of preload im going to leave it at that for now to see where it settles then start again 😢😢😢 your stock looks really nice by the way thanks again for the videos, il probably collapse a coil on my next endeavor for the 52 , ive spent so much time on these air rifles, one company i ordered a 12fpe kit from for one of my diana 34s sent me a 15-16fpe by mistake so even that simple job went south

    • @nickvending9688
      @nickvending9688 Місяць тому

      That sounds all too familiar, try, try again in sweltering heat or freezing cold, fighting against incorrect parts making the job even more of a PITA. I do wonder why I do it sometimes. Hope your move to the UK goes well, hopefully we might have elected a capable by then (probably not). Thank you, the stock has settled in and looks rather good now, I'm happy with how it turned out in the end. All the best, Nick
