This is the best how-to video for the Plott Carta I have seen. We are just starting to use this tool in our business, and i really appreciate your instructions.
I appreciate the feedback. I agree there was not a lot of info on it and instructions and videos are very vague. So that’s why I decided to do a detailed and longer video. Still more I’m learning and may do a follow up of more features I’ve learned in the future. Like when I did the second measurement for garden bed. Before moving the wheel at the end of the last measurement, I could have added a new path right from the end point of the main yard perimeter outline. Just a straight measurement to the garden bed then added a new path from that point and did the garden bed. That would put the garden bed in the exact proximity to where it is in the yard in relation to the perimeter. Thanks for watching.

Thanks so much for the tutorial. Just purchased. Question. Can you switch from straight line to curved line I. The same measurement?
For presentation purposes, that would be handy. I use this feature with the Moasure device, but it’s accuracy is weak.

What if you need a measurement on each side? Can it do that?
Does it measure linear footage and cubic footage including height? I measure homes and commercial properties, linear and cubic footage, rarely lawns. Is this wheel just for lawns or anything?
I saw you also had a review up on the Moasure ONE. I've been using it for a while. What's your take on Moasure vs Carta?
I think they are both good and have their own unique differences. The Moasure One has a much smaller more portable form factor and can measure in over 20 different ways. Ie perimeter, area, arcs, angles, gradient, through walls and trace mode etc. It also does 2D and 3D and measurements can be exported to CAD programs if needed. The PLOTT of course has a measuring wheel form factor and can only measure distance, perimeter and area. The software does allow you to place your measurements over pictures like satellite imagery which may be handy for people. So I guess it depends on the person using it and what form factor they prefer. The PLOTT is easier to use out of the box I guess. Being a measuring wheel may be more familiar for people and if you don’t need all the different types of measurements that the Moasure can do then the PLOTT is a good choice. The wheel form factor does have some limitations though. Like measuring a straight line with obstacles or bushes in the way. Also I find the kick stand on the PLOTT should have been side mounted instead of the way it is as it sticks out a few inches on either side regardless of whether it’s up or down. That prevents you from getting close to fences and often gets caught on obstacles. The Moasure design because you place it down at points makes it easier to measure where obstacles are in the way of a clear path. With that being said the Moasure does not allow making multiple measurements in one file like the PLOTT allows. So if I measure a front yard I have to start a new measurement for the back yard where with the PLOTT you can add a new path for new measurements and overlay those over satellite imagery. I will probably do a video comparison between the two at some point after I get a few months use of each during the year. Ultimately I’m glad I have both. Thanks for watching.
Great video! I just purchased one and was wondering if you figured out if there is a way to export the file as a pdf or jpg so a customer of even myself can pull it up without having to use the app. I would go to share but saves it as its own type of file which I didn't really care for.
Yes. Go to where is says measurement near the top and press the three line button on the right. That open a window with all the measurements you took. There’s an estimator and a export data button there. Click on export data and it gives you the option to export to either a .dxf file or .jpg file. The other way that I do it is I just take a screen shot. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the demo. Question. I got one, but it seems the location of the device jumps around when I’m getting close to closing the loop.
I have not had that issue of it bouncing around. I have noticed though, that sometimes when you end a path, that even if your on a straight line the points don’t seem to line up like they should, but I guess that may be an issue with how relatively accurate consumer gps is. In the grand scheme of things for a quick measurment, and to calculate the area for materials, it should not be too much of an issue. Thanks for watching.

Would this work in an underground parking with no cell reception?
I’m not sure. I don’t have any underground parking lots nearby to try it out in and I don’t know what technologies they require to run. Like if it needs gps or data. Your best bet would be to ask the company directly on their website. Thanks for watching.
So does it have an internal gps connection?
I don’t know. The images you see with satellite images are just background pictures, basically screenshots you can add to your measurements later and pinch and zoom to match the measurements. But it does not show you any mapping pictures in the app. So I’m not sure if it uses gps or just the measurements of the wheel plus maybe the internal gyro for direction changes. Thanks for watching.
Cannot find the android app for Plott Carta
At first I was excited about this, but then went researching measuring apps. Why do I need this wheel? Why can't I just use a map and walk around a space? Serious, non sarcastic question here.
As with all objects it’s just a tool to use that will make things easier for some people. For example why buy a car when you can walk or take the bus. It works for some people and not for others. Thanks for watching.
