    Why do people think tunnels are cheating? I love tunnels, because it keeps above ground looking better. And I love the tunnel that pops out and then go back unground. It reminds me of this trains I would ride as a kid. Always going in and out of tunnels on the journey. Coolest shit ever to see if done correctly.

      I don't mind tunnels either but I think they are frowned upon by those trying to create realistic cities. I think their cost in real life is much higher than that of a bridge and as such they wouldn't be built as often.

    I'm not fans of tight switching train cuz its will slow down the train a lot. And I'm will try avoid more switch nearby train station cuz that thing will jam real quickly from regional track. Other than that, I really like how you layout track from regional to industrial inland cargo to reduce truck. Mine only have 1 that serve 3 industrial zone and then 1 cargo hub harbour acts as import my oil industry and I'm kinda surfer with traffic around 80%

    • @jester.Gaming
      @jester.Gaming  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Zai Han, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment - welcome to the channel! I appreciate you taking the time to leave some feedback. You've brought up a few good points about the design that I've chosen. Most of the switches I've put in aren't too bad they mostly slow down when there's another train on the track that they're joining. I'm thinking of putting in the tunnel that I had originally suggested to connect the cargo terminal to the left regional track. The current setup will work but I worry that in the future it will cause some issues. Trains will back up not only because of the switch close to the terminal but also trains waiting to go though the metro-monorail-train hub as we saw in the video. Your city sounds awesome - 80% traffic is impressive!

    I like the thought process behind what you're trying to do, but since you know about imperatur's channel, I would have expected more from you. With as much room as you have, you could have used the slope tool to keep all rail on the ground. No rail tunnels are ever needed unless you're going through a mountain or hill. Or, perhaps you want to tunnel under the city in an appropriate way (again, making it at least LOOK like you're going into a hill). Your other content is amazing and I expected more from this one. Also, the freight setup is not optimal. You should split stations. For every external rail connection, you should have one freight station. So if your rail line goes to one end of the map to the other, that would be two. Then, you can have a transfer point from the external line to the local line. This way to eliminate train backups and empty trains from the region. Still gave you a thumbs up though!

    • @jester.Gaming
      @jester.Gaming  5 місяців тому

      Thanks Josh, I appreciate the feedback. Admittedly sometimes I go for the easy route to get an episode finished rather than what might be more realistic. I also feel like I am not the most creative or artistic person ... I'm amazed at what some of the other content creators come up with and don't feel like I'm quite at that level haha. Rather than train traffic I would have truck traffic to transfer between internal and external lines instead though right? Assuming the stations were close together it might not be too bad though

    • @joshgellock
      @joshgellock 5 місяців тому

      @@jester.Gaming you're correct! Trucks would do the transferring. Also, check if there's a water connection to the region. That would be an additional station.
      I actually think you're quite creative with your designs. I think anyway. Try it out and see what happens!!

    18:12 'this might not make sense....'
    I used to be a professional Chef but now i'm in Retraining to be a Dispatcher (what a Change eh?) at 'Deutsche Bahn'. That's the Railway Company running all the Train Traffic in Germany. What you're building there makes Sense that's for sure. The only Thing that wouldn't work in RL are your Overpasses. Trains can go up a 6% Pitch max. (Branch Lines) and only 2,5% on the Main Lines due to Safety Regulations. Problem is Trains are too heavy to go up the Tracks and they would need a huge amount of Energy/Fuel to do that. It's just not efficient.
    But that's a Thing you don't need to bother about. ;)
    The Tracks you've made look pretty realistic and would totally work.
    Edit: Check out the UA-camr 'Imperatur'. He is showing quite awesome Stuff on his Channel.

    • @DeKay1980
      @DeKay1980 3 роки тому +2

      48:14 you've built two Bridges for your Train Tracks there.
      In Real Life they would only build one and connect/separate the Train Lines on both Sides. 😉

    • @jester.Gaming
      @jester.Gaming  3 роки тому

      That's quite a change DeKay and some really awesome information - thank you for taking the time to share! I'm glad you approve of the tracks ... for the most part :D I wish I could do a little more fine tuning to make them a bit better but I am somewhat limited by what the game will allow me to do. Some of the slopes that the game lets you put in are totally crazy. Even pedestrian pathways and metro line slopes get very steep.

    • @jester.Gaming
      @jester.Gaming  3 роки тому

      I might change it to a single bridge and have the switch just on the other side - I thought it looked cooler with twin bridges :D

    • @DeKay1980
      @DeKay1980 3 роки тому +2

      @@jester.Gaming Ah, it's totally fine. It is a Game after all and you're doing great. Your City looks beautiful and it's working fine. :)
      The Game does Things on it's own so there's not much you can do. Maybe you can make overpasses by editing the Terrain? Streets and Railways can be lifted Step by Step by creating gentle Slopes or am i mistaken? Maybe worth a Try.
      Well the Game drives the Trains nonetheless across your Bridges and Pedestrians take any Slope regardless of how steep it may be. ;)

    • @DeKay1980
      @DeKay1980 3 роки тому +1

      @@jester.Gaming The twin Bridges look definitely cooler. Just leave them be. :)
      You can't build single Track-Railways anyways. No Worries about how Things would be or look in RL.
      You know, Trains go in 'Block Sections' -divided via Signals. A Train enters a Block - Signal goes red. Train leaves that Block -Signal switches to green and the next Train can follow.
      The freaking Game just pumps out the Trains and let's them go everywhere. :D
      The same with Roads.
      It's fine.

    I had a train nightmare recently in my city. I got hit with train spam and had switch tracks crossing each other in the regional network outside my city limits that had incoming trains blocking outbound trains from leaving, leading to a full gridlock on my rails. Seeing this gives me some ideas on how I can rework my train lines in the future to keep the trains in my zone of control at least, moving. Be careful in your city of those 2 way tracks with trains crossing each other's paths going opposite ways, you could have the same thing happen at some point.
    For my train nightmare, the solution was to replace all 2 way track switch tracks with 1 way tracks and have the crossovers happen on either an overpass or underpass/tunnel to stop the trains from getting in each other's way and preventing any train from moving. Luckily by the time that happened, 1 of the regional line intersections, I was able to fix it up so inbound and outbound trains don't block each other in an impasse, but sadly there's still a T intersection between 2 regional lines far outside my city limits I have no control over which is still at risk of jamming everything up.

    • @jester.Gaming
      @jester.Gaming  3 роки тому

      This is my fear. I was really hesitant to make anything too elaborate for that very reason ... I've seen a few videos where train networks fail as the volume of cars increases. I have no idea how these lines will work long term but if/when they do you've given some great advice, thank you Jason!

    Hi, very enjoyable and interesting to watch and learn
    2 comments
    1. at about 30:00 when you are trying to do the overhead, some time as with roads and pedestrians you can start from the centre and work out ie select rail lines, press arrow up to have your overhead lines and start near those middle lines and then click to the space you cant to go, this will do a small high/bridge, then you can click on end and arrow down to drop slope and join up to land level rail - i use it often with roads in say hilly areas or tight areas where is will not snap in
    2. What i have done recently is if the map has 2 rail way lines as outside connections eg North and south or East and west, i use one lines entry point and use that for freight train line , and often i use the other outside connection and make one multi station or 2 single station next to each other, the first is the inter city the other one is the starting point for the rail network inside the city - sims will have to walk from one to the other, if you use a multi station not a problem if you use 2 basic single stations you can place them either side of a single road or one in front of the other - then sims will happily walk
    The main issue is not to cross connect the commercial and the passenger lines - the commercial will happily run as it is, the passenger lien will not share the line with commercial and all other stations will not suffer out of city congestion ( i do turn the option button of ) but this will never happen as you r inner city lines do not physically connect to the outside other than the original first station that does not branch into the internal network
    Regards
    George.
