    16:28 First step to build confidence: be selective about memories from your past
    16:45 second step: be careful about the stories You tell yourself about yourself in the present
    17:20 beliefs structure actions and actions structure results
    18:16 third step: how do You think about yourself in the future?
    28:55 You have to be realistic about the situation you are in and yet optimistic about the future

    I feel like I knew everything every philosopher or influencer has been talk about for the last 15 years when I was 17 and it was slowly eroded away by jealous adults and proto social justice warriors and in college and then I had to relearn everything about programming computers and myself through study of philosophy through the stoics, though the German Idealists, through the Taoists, Christians, and finally my own damn self through journaling, trial and error making sure my ego didn't control me but instead being a friend to that which is ambitious within me in the service of others. Learning how to make money and not just consume inheritances, it's about responsibility and engaging with life even though the forces out their vying for our attention are demonic and seriously compromised. One must choose whom to follow, as Epictetus says, "Do you feel no shame handing over your own mind to be confused and mystified to anyone that should verbally attack you?"

    David knew he had the right, had the right tools, the right support system, (his God), and was *in the right to defend. He owned the confident mind before he faced Goliath, and so he won the victory even though he knew himself to not be the typical warrior in size/stature or practice or popular opinion of his peers, aka reputation. His confidence was not at all based on a deceiving ego. I have found loud assertiveness in speech is usually a telling of lack of confidence in most, an overcompensation tactic to convince others that confidence is there when it is not. The truly confident ones I have crossed paths with are calm and need prove not a thing but act when required and that without need of approval of anyone. May we all be so peacefully confident

    Desire to "become" Confident makes you feel 'Un-Confident'. Epictetus in a discourse gives example of a musician and says that if musician tries to impress his audience then he will not be confident. But if he sticks to playing Music only he will be confident.

    Because the one's governing our countries throw powder into our eyes to maintain us, the Dispensable, where we are so they can be where they are. We all need to stop depending on systems or the 1% waiting for them to pull us or our children up to that somewhere, we all need to pull up our sleeves & to live our lives. It is up to me to teach, 1. Myself 2. To be able to teach or to pass this on to my children. Schools do the basic, unless specialized, and for us to bring ourselves & our children beyond the "This is how it is" & get/give right tools for building a life in the present, that builds the future. I wake up between 2am & 4am, make a coffee, listen to men like Ryan, go back to bed 6:30 to 8am, wake fresh to take a new day on. And i share with my children.

    So maybe the answer is somewhere at the end of the video but what do you do when you haven't had a win in literally years. I can't remember the last time anything went my way no matter if I put effort in or not. So it's hard to be selective and think about the wins when they haven't happened in years.

    • @dys699

      The part where they mention the quote about war. The fear you have before entering a battle. That’s the first step to overcoming your doubt, to win the battle within yourself. After you win that battle, you get that ‘delusional’ confidence to win the battle. Not entirely delusional, during war anything can happen to you but you have faith in your skills and training. It’s better to have that kind of confidence rather than going to into battle “hoping to win.” In real life, overcome the doubt and face the challenges to train your skills in whatever endeavors your interested in. Failure is our greatest way to train until we win.

    • @SteveBIRK
      @SteveBIRK Рік тому

      @@dys699 I think the problem is that I know it is delusional. And since I’m self aware I can’t fake it. Doesn’t matter if I put effort in to train or not.

    A moral compass is very difficult to lose. In this case, I do not think it is possible to lose it completely. A shift in how you behave, how much weight do you give your moral compass to affect your decisions is what happens. How do you lose something like that? The answer is you never do, it transforms like so many things. Phantom limb is an example that comes to mind. The neural structure of the limb does not get lost with the limb and it can stay there for a long time. Values, ego, morals and your choice on how they affect your judgement is always there. Tradeoffs, not solutions. Shifting, no absolutes.

      This is the perfect attitude of the people that were sent into gulag in Siberia by Russian Communists. Because you are more concerned about having your feelings hurt and ignoring what's actually going on around you. You are like a scared child who puts a blanket over their head to hide from the imaginary monster. But monsters are real. Just ask the Ukrainian people fighting against the people right this very second. That you choose to pretend do not exist. WAKE UP OPEN YOUR EYES. Before you end up like Ukraine.

      No, he cannot. He has been in the spotlight too long. I noticed he attacked faith using the most baren definition he could, like a caricature that people of "faith" would most likely object too and Dr. Zinsser gave a definition of faith that included evidence and not knowing everything (which is to me, what faith is). Ryan does that a lot, uses incredibly uncharitable definitions of those he despises.

      I think he means that the hot hand doesn’t exist outside of the mind ie. Rolling dice or other things left to chance. But psychologically it does exist. He mentioned how slumps can create a self-fulfilling prophecy, therefore acknowledging that the mind will influence results.
