Im writing this as Im listening to you. VERY HELPFUL for a years long city builder novice. In a word: Suck, at city building. Love the sandbox to do what I want. People like you, ThaJonah, Moose, Imperial Jedi and Dava. And all the other Twitch creators. But I like your tutorials here because you can listen like a pod and go over what needs to be learned better. Thanks Slay 👍
The zoning was especially helpful as although others have mentioned it they have waited for the buildings to grow in. You demonstrated that wasn’t necessary. Thanks
I got one question you might be able to help. I'm noticing a constant demand for low density residential but almost never any demands for mid or high density. The guides don't seem to have a good idea why this is and wondering what would be the best way to help?
So one thing that seems to effect this is education level. You can incentivize getting a better education by having a college and a university and then lowering taxes for high and well educated. Give it some time and it should push demand for offices and higher density residential.
Solid tips here, thanks Slay! I haven’t started playing yet but I already know it would have taken me FOREVER to learn about passing electricity through highways. 😂
Barrier Island is an annoying first square to deal with. I recommend building road networks to unlock the first to maybe the second milestone to open up the bottom right of the island for industry.
Thanks for the tips. When I played today on the Tampere map, I noticed the wind speed and direction was different on the large scale. I'm not sure if that is procedural or if everyone's Tampere map has the same winds. It didn't really affect where I placed my industrial areas, but it surprised me.
Thank you! I just know that the wind is static per load. So when you start your city, it's not going to abruptly change; however, I'm not sure if it changes per new start on the same map, although I could appreciate that if it was the case.
Is it actually possible to get a "perfect" block, like you would in Cities 1? I remember in that game, if you had all your roads perfectly parallel, and exactly 8 tiles apart, the gap between would be perfectly filled with zoneable tiles. I haven't played a huge amount of 2 yet, but I've found it pretty much impossible to replicate this, especially since the road tool no longer tells you the length in tiles, but in meters.
You can get perfect blocks, yes. With 2, sometimes they seem to break and it's hard to understand why; however it's still possible. Just use the window around the road that gives you a radius of the zone to try and align roads next to each other, often you'll find you can make that perfect square or rectangle. Sometimes, I have to turn off align to guidlines to correct some issues that I've seen.
very nice video, learned quite a few new things that have benefited me in my newest city. but your first tip is not 100% accurate, you can actually change your theme mid game, when placing down the buildings or zones there is an option to change between european and north american. I really enjoyed the tips about highway electricity and fixing zones, that has been a big blessing lately :).
You can change your building theme but there are elements you cannot change, like service vehicles. So, the tip is correct, you need to select the theme you want to use because you won’t be able to change everything on the fly.
nice video! But for me exporting water doesn't work. Having a lot of water and also connected a normal road to the end of the map but still no water trade. I don't get it.
I wonder if there's an issue with it.. I've noticed the same thing before, but then I thought I had some trade happening. I'll have to look further into it! Thank you!
@@Slay3K Update....if you make a road that connects to the arrows outside on the edge of the map...and draw water/sewage under the road....you will export water/sewage
Can we please get a beginners guide to public transit please. Im 20 hours into the game and i still dont understand how trains work. And people wont use my free bus services at all for some reason.
Incorrect. For example, you can't change service vehicle theme, can you? No. The map theme is different than the building theme. There are a few things that you cannot change the theme of. It tells you this in the game when selecting a map theme.
You're incorrect. You can change building themes for example, but you CANNOT change the map theme after you've selected it. Once selected, the map theme will then be default for things like buildings, or wherever you can select a theme; however it will also alter service vehicles which you cannot change ingame. It even says this when you go to select the theme.
That was a great list, very helpful 🙂
Thanks friend! I appreciate that.

Best tip I have is export all sewage. It's cheaper than the maintenance cost of dealing with it yourself and you never pay for more than you need.

Ignore them, and just build med density. Or you can get rid of the demand using taxes & by building education buildings.

You can change the theme afterwards for actually every type of building
I’m not talking about the building theme though. Two separate things, map theme controls more.
good video....hav you, or anyone else anyone figured out how to export water ??

any ideas on how to add trees to road? 🙄
It’s in the road tools that you can unlock with development points.
