  • Our second drive in the new Ford Shelby Mustang GT350. For 2017 the track pack is standard which adds trans cooler, oil cooler and magnaride dampers which is all equipment likely required to keep this car running and enjoyable to operate when driven hard. This was from our 2016 MAMA Rally at Road America.
    With so much competition above and below it's price point from GM, Porsche, BMW, this still remains an obtainable driver's car without having to blow a life savings to have REAL fun.

    Have to agree with what you said here. I was cross shopping the 350 when I wasn't certain I'd be able to find one at MSRP. As far as new vehicles were concerned it really came down to the 350 and the M2. I was able to find a dealer who sold me a 2016 allocation at sticker, so I ordered it with the track package and haven't looked back. The interior of the m2 is certainly nicer and is likely the better daily driver from a comfort standpoint (especially for those my size, 6'1 and 270) with the recaro seats. I can't say that I have any regret's about the purchase and absolutely love driving the car. I can't wait to get on track with it at the track attack before I take my own out.

    God I feel like this car will be remembered as something special in the mustang lineage. along the lines of the 03-04 Cobras, and 00 Cobra R's, and so on and so forth. I am 23 and i feel that i need one of these in my life right now haha. Man, i need to find a wealthy benefactor to help me achieve this goal. having a car would help change my life at this point and having this car could make every step of the way enjoyable haha.

    Its not common for a car manufacturer to come out with a vehicle that can deliver overall performance. It was a no brainer for my C6Z06 to trade. I will in the future acquire another C6Z06 but doubt if I can buy a shadow black no stripes w tech pkg. new off the showroom floor again. There is no replacement for displacement...until a high revving 1 :) Thank you Savagegeese for your video. You guys are honest drivers/evaluators that share good things to the people who are considering their options.

    Nice video/review. Thanks for posting. I got my 2017-GT350 a couple of days ago & all I can say is Holly shit. It is by far the best car I've ever purchased. It is so much fun to drive & I'm loving the interior. It's clean, simple, & a real joy being in. From the second you get in you feel like you are part of the car. It is literally glued to the ground. This car is a 10 & videos/pictures do this car no justice. You've got to see/drive one in person. It's an incredible experience.

    Also, you've driven the GT with the performance pack so in your opinion, how far removed is the regular GT than the GT350 in terms of handling? I know the engine is just in a whole different level, but in terms of handling and ride?

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +8

      I am doing a video with a buddy next week who has that black GT. He is young but smart, dumped all his money and time into track days and autox and only tires. But after I drove the GT350 I told him dampers are everything makes a huge difference on the stang. He just did OTS Koni yellows on stock springs and shaves off 2 seconds a lap at MAM. If you are going to do track I'd say spring for the GT350, they have the cooling sorted, chassis re-inforcements and dampers setup. No dicking around and the way it delivers power is so controllable. But if you do more street and some track you can get a GT, tires and dampers done for probably 36k and its going to be likely be very fast. I cant imagine it being more than 3 seconds a lap slower on most tracks. But part of that extra 14k for the 350 is pure driving enjoyment that you get from your senses being filled.

    • @maximus9401
      @maximus9401 8 років тому +4

      Really looking forward to that comparison video. The GT350 is seriously an attainable dream car and hopefully I'll get my hands on one some day. But in the mean time, I wouldn't mine fixing up a GT because there's just something desirable about these new Mustangs to me. As a Japanese import fan, it's conflicting to see more and more describable options coming out from the good ole US of A. The new Camaro has me eyeing it really hard too

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +1

      +Mark Backeris Thats a hard choice, you get a V8 version of the F22 with GT350 and roll down the windows and it makes up for some of the loss of precision you get with Cayman. But drive both for sure.

    • @markbackeris7215
      @markbackeris7215 8 років тому

      +savagegeese I'll say. Also trying to factor in running costs. I would guess that the Ford would be cheaper overall, but who knows what types of issues may pop up. Im spoiled by the cheap parts and tires on the s2k. Gotta be ready to pay to move up to the big leagues I guess.

    I know BMW are known for their 'silky-smooth' straight 6 engines but the sound of the current gen M3 (and M4)'s compared to the previous E9x generation M3s and E46 M3s are underwhelming in my honest opinion. Even if the F8x M3/M4's straight 6 is smaller in displacement compared to the previous 4.0, when you're on the track, the fuel economy isn't much better because you're on full boost. I don't really know if this down-sizing effect is due to the fact that GT350 is only sold in N.America and that BMW has to consider its broader demographic (when some countries like China having displacement tax and countries in Europe that have ridiculously strict emissions regulations). Sorry for the long comment haha

    • @eurotrash4629
      @eurotrash4629 8 років тому +1

      I think its fleet average MPG requirements. BMW sells far fewer high MPG economy cars (in THE USA) to offset its gas-guzzlers. In Europe they sell smaller displacement models and Diesel models. Euro emissions aren't ridiculously strict they are just different. They do have high fuel taxes there and insurance rates partially depend on displacement. (I think)

    The GT350 is the perfect balance of new technology and great driving dynamics. To make it more like those cars would make it expensive, shitty to maintain and fucking horrible intrms of long term reliabilty like those cars.

    I really don't get it,.... the standard Mustang GT is 400 foot pounds of torque. You go from 32k to 65k to the Mustang GT350R and now you have 429 foot pounds or torque and a car that is as fast as a 37k Camaro SS why would anyone buy this car??

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +7

      +Newton Washinton Its not about TQ, its about how usable it is. The GT is much harder to control and is far less predictable. The GT350 because of the way it delivers power makes it much faster as you can go flat without having to chase the tail all the time.

  • @derekktong
    @derekktong 8 років тому

    I don't think comparing the m3 to a gt350 is fair. Even though both cars are performance, enthusiast grade cars, the m3 is still a luxury car. There are going to be those people who have boatloads of money and will just get an m3 (probably with the dual clutch, but still) and daily it. Those are the people BMW are trying to make happy with better fuel economy(thus the twin turbo v6), non-manual cars, all the bullshit luxury electronics. No non-enthusiast is going to buy a gt350 to daily, although the fact that there is no other option than the manual probably is a factor here.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +2

      No you are right, and the M3 has it's market and it makes sense. Also start one of these up cold with exhaust valves open and it's gonna open some eyes. You have to admire the rawness here, while other are trying to neuter and tame their cars, Ford said screw it, loud fast, manual trans and shitty fuel economy all in the name of fun driving.
