    I love the track drives where Mr. Goose has an instructor riding shotgun telling him what to do.... I know damn well my boy could outrun 99% of these instructors out on a track lmfao.

      +kkthxk Completely agree. i thoughy for some crazy reason they were gonna be logical and reward the miata when it got down to the top 3. Nope lets have a sold GT4 and Merc win. wow makes me feel even poorer. I might be able to buy a Focus RS one day. hahaha Thats my max $ on a car.

    Good job, haven't seen any press from this event yet, saw it here first. You can definitely hear the difference in that engine with the flat plane crank. High RPMs it just screams.

    Wow that was good video.....Excellent driving also. The GT350 like the Boss before it is just hard to top at 55k. You are dead on about the regular GT being an excellent car with just some slight modifications. No one would pay an additional $7,000 or so more to take 200 more pounds out of the car even if most of it was unsprung weight.

    I think you have a point about upgrading the suspension on a GT Mustang, but that engine in the 350 is just fantastic. The sound of it ripping up to redline is worth at least $10k. The flat plane crank and engine tuning is what I think makes the 350 GT so special.
    I also really liked your comment on the MotorTrend COTY. I hear the AMG GT is a blast to drive, but it requires so much room to enjoy, I'd have the Miata any day. Loved your review of the Miata by the way!

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому +1

      +HandsomeAlex25 Thanks glad you like the Miata review, its easier to do a video when you have a car like that. I won't lie that 5.2L in the 350 is amazing but personally it's a one off and I reserve any major endorsements for it until it's in the wild. (Tested) As Turbowski said how is warranty support going to work, and not only that normal Ford dealerships are not going to be fixing much. It's a car that may have more hidden costs. The GT 5.0L is already proven.

    • @HandsomeAlex25
      @HandsomeAlex25 9 років тому +1

      +savagegeese This is exactly why I appreciate your channel so much. You and i-Turbowski focus so much on ownership costs and the engineering underneath the car (literally) as well as the driving experience. Your point about servicing the unique 5.2 flat crank engine is really pertinent to potential owners... You deserve a lot more attention than you get.

    • @robertgarcia488
      @robertgarcia488 9 років тому

      +savagegeese Would you say that the only purpose of owning the R version would be to track it? If I just wanted a super badass mustang and had the cash with no real intention of tracking it. Would you just advise someone to get a regular gt350 track or tech package? There's something special I think about owning a R version..idk about an extra 13k though. Plus 3k for electronics added. Just wanted your thoughts..

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому +2

      +Robert Garcia No track = GT350. Same great things more practical. Having no AC, no radio, no trunk or backseat and DOT R tires for street a waste.

    • @future62
      @future62 9 років тому

      R version is definitely not worth it. I agree with your assessment though. GT with mods sounds best for sure. Tires, brakes, springs/shocks are where I always put money first. Aftermarket always yields more value.

    Savage, thanks for the great review, but I have a question I hope you have time for. Is the C7 Corvette a better option for similar money? Would like to hear your thoughts comparing contrasting these two very different high performance cars. Thanks.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 років тому +3

      Thats a very difficult question. The C7 is a better sports car from the group up. Dedicated platform and not built to a price point. The Mustang has budget car roots. But... this motor and trans if reliable make it a car that anyone should be able to work on and service. I think the C7 has higher potential overall as a track car as the Mustang is maxed out here but that does not make it any less appealing. If I was going for mostly street with some track duty I'd take the GT350 with track pack.

  • @TassieLorenzo

    1:11 flat plane crank goes down-up-down-up which is a bit strange, compared to the more unusual down-up-up-down for most flatplane crank V8s and four-cylinders. Interesting.

    I've heard people say that the Gt350R has similar lap time to the 997 gt3,that's the only reason I have slight interest in the 350,but clearly all mustangs are quite porky. High Torque and high HP can hide the weight in a straight line,I'd imagine the weight would show up in the canyons,still want to test drive one before i make a decision.

  • @xevious2501
    @xevious2501 8 років тому +1

    Great review and pinpointing the cast steel pieces, thing is they reduced the weight and roational weight via the carbon fiber wheels, Makes a great aftermarket target for weight reduction almunium pieces. one thing he kinda misses is the the fact that the flat plane crank engine with its 8k rev is exclusice to the gt350's engine that cant be had within the GT. so indeed you can make the GT perform better with magneride dampers but overalll you not getting the same experience as the gt350, and at the end of the day those gt350 will be worth millions especially the R's '

  • @zzubuzz
    @zzubuzz 5 років тому

    You can get a/c in the R if you get the "electronics" package, just thought I'd add that info, which also includes other goodies like upgraded audio system. Maybe if a fairy granted me a wish, and the R didn't cost more, than I'd get it as long as it had the electronics package.

  • @Justacogg

    I realize in the states motor and engine are interchangeable. Could you please bear in mind that and the rest the world a motor is electric and the engine is internal combustion. Thank you for your consideration. Truly love all the videos you do and the honesty that they invoke.

  • @English2Elvish
    @English2Elvish 5 років тому

    Question Mark; Both you and Turbowski mention taking the R over the Camaro for the NON-forced induction. Why is that though? Is it based on that a FI car will put it into a higher race category class? Or?

    As great as the gt350 seems, I have to agree with your comments on upgrading a gt. The lower end torque would be much more practical for daily use as well. Do you think it is also necessary to upgrade the gt's transmission?

    Nice job. The Shelby GT350 is going to look great next to my Porsche 911. I can't wait to put one of these on a circuit, my Boss 302 Laguna Seca was a track beast, can't imagine how this will be. I wouldn't say this car is "obtainable." $60,000 USD most people cannot afford. The people that can afford it, chances are they still can't get one.

    Nice job. Btw, the Simpson "Hans" device is really not enhancing safety unless you are in a full 4 or 5 point harness. Did the Ford people set you up with that device?
    No auto blip, me don't want.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому

      Yes is was ford provided, I asked what was the point if HANS tethers not integrated with seat. Answer was insurance reasons. Why would you want auto blip?

      @goons123flofy 9 років тому

      +savagegeese I always knew you were a smart goose. Keep up the amazing work you are doing - best car reviews on UA-cam.
      Re auto blip, on a track, where I am hard in the brakes, I can blip, (having a solid brake pedal to pivot my foot from), however on the street, where I could be just brushing the brakes, I don't have the confidence or the ability to blip at the same time. A lot of it depends on the placement of the pedals also.

  • @masterbamboo
    @masterbamboo 9 років тому

    Spot on, and nice job.
    That 3.73 gear in the GT Performance Pack really needed an extra 1000RPM boost. I think that's where Ford had left off with the BOSS truly. They can't just slam a Boss Mani in there to get it to breath better and raise the RPM due to the height clearance of the hood and styling, so they did it in other ways.
    Also agreed on the GT350 vs GT350R, I quite enjoy the MagneRide suspension in my TT, all you have to do really is get a GT350 with the Technology package, and retrofit the oil/tranny cooler, wider tires and call it a practical fun car/occasional track car.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому +1

      I agree. Any issues with the magnaride of your TT?

    • @masterbamboo
      @masterbamboo 9 років тому

      +savagegeese Not at all, sold the TT@55K miles; to me, that's the most useful feature of that car.
      The problem child of the TT was the DSG. Failed Mechatronics unit @26K miles, then servicing the DSG was like hell. So once the warranty goes out, I got rid of the sucker quick.

    • @masterbamboo
      @masterbamboo 9 років тому

      +savagegeese Geese, I forgot to ask, how did you like the shifting feeling compare to the GT you had previously reviewed?
      I think the stock GT shifter is ok, but no where close to some top-mounted shifter trannies, since they have changed that for GT350, I'm just wondering. :) Thanks!

    nice review Goose, first off enjoyed your insight. I am curious, you mentioned the regular GT with a track pack would be your choice with some upgrades. Was the motor in the GT350 not worth the upgrade alone? I mean maybe its not with 10k extra but 4-5k, no?
    The motor trend stuff, I agree with you a bit, because yes, the AMG and Bentley, are expensive and out of range for most people. However, you have to admit we all love watching it and seeing what those cars can do and be able to see the direct comparison to perhaps a Cayman GT4 or the Z06, although that one was a bit of a no show in the test. I genereal I like seeing the track time diff between those super high end cars and say a car that is more affordable.
    keep up the good work

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому +1

      If you could get a GT350 for within 5k of GT with performance pack yes go for GT350. I just doubt you'd find that with limited production. It's likely going to be over 10k more. Motor Trend has the best videos, no one else online does better with track comparisons, they just don't get into enough nitty gritty or at least edit too much out. 99% of the population will never get into an AMG GTS I think thats worth at least saying? But I do agree with you.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому +1

      I can't imagine not having A/C. Coolers are a must for longevity. All it takes is one track day and that car will be roasting. I think you could live without the NAV for sure.

    Great insights about the Mustang and the "Best Drivers Car" b.s.Ok, as a buyer, what is your impression of the materials, and quality of the GT? I found the outgoing model laughable. As much hoopla that was made about how great it was, I could not take it seriously with the comically cheap materials and fit & finish.I really like the styling of the new Mustang, and looks great on the street. But, has it been improved that much with regards to quality of materials?

      You should look at Bentley if you need special interiors. Track guys want all business, my Porsche 911 is all business, this Shelby the same. I have a coworker who just paid over 75k for a brand new M4....that's a bad deal. The Shelby is a super exotic compared to the M4. The GT350 is more appealing than cars costing twice as much.

      Not looking for special interiors, just something better than a Mitsubishi Mirage. And you can't say Ford didn't try. They obviously cared a lot about the interior design, as it's styled in every facet. It's the materials and execution that let it down, imo.

    In the beginning you say there isn't not enough aluminum and Ford says it costs too much reengineer, but later you say the R isn't a value because it's more money. Go figure.

    The 5.2L is the best part about this car. I know you said you would save a bunch of money by modifying a regular GT, but you miss out on that engine. I think thats why most people have interest in it. I mean, lets be honest, how many people are going to actually track it? The R sure, I can see people tracking those, but the regular 350, not so much. If you have interest in tracking the car, you probably will get the R.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому

      The motor is the best part by a long stretch, I just don't see how you can even remotely enjoy this car on any public road. Even starting it would wake neighbors. If you are not using it for track its throwing money away IMO. Its not like we are talking about a 200HP car here where adding 75HP would be welcome. We already have 435HP on the GT. The other issue becomes rebuild and longevity. Flat crank motors are supposed to need more service in the long run. Whether or not thats true, we'll see.

      @mdcohen 9 років тому

      +savagegeese I wonder if you are right about the economics. The GT will depreciate like any car and the mods will not help the value. The 350 in either version should hold its value better, right?
      In the subject of economics, I understand reporters had to pay their own way. Thank you!

    • @MrGovenator1
      @MrGovenator1 9 років тому +1

      Michael Cohen Are they doing limited production runs of the GT350/GT350R? If they aren't doing any sort of limited run deal, I don't imagine it will increase in value or even not loose value, but I think the car will hold its value regardless if its limited run or not better then a regular GT. Especially if you do plan on moding a GT to get the same performance as a 350.

    I would like to ask another question. Would you want this motor in the Ford GT and if it was twin turbo would it be the GT that you would want?

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  9 років тому

      +twissted I'd prefer a high revving NA motor like this in the GT. While it may not have the power output it would be a more visceral experience. My guess is the TT motor in the GT is likely because or weight and power output.

    • @twissted1277
      @twissted1277 9 років тому

      +savagegeese I would think that it is because it is a race proven engine and nothing more. The flat plane V8 is light weight and the reason that it revs so well. In fact if it used titanium connecting rods and wrist pin it would even be more rev happy and make more power. I see it as a motor not yet proven and it leaves a lot of meat on the bone for more sales of the GT down the road. Just think of it everyone wanting this car with a V6.... How many would jump if the car came out with a 1100 hp twin turbo flat plan V8 under the deck. This car puts them on the map and later it will set a standered that few if any can match.

      +twissted Ok just wanted to be sure. Its actually better for the Mustang brand to have the flat plane. Its going to reach more people, despite the "who knows" longevity. I think the V6 in the GT is a mistake for a supercar like that but it's likely a packaging and brand (ecoboost) decision. What do you think?

    I appreciate this review. The GT 350 R is on the shortlist of cars I would purchase if I had the money to blow. Because that's what I would be doing, blowing money. For a cure track car it is not cost-effective and in my opinion half of the racing game is budget management. I get more miles for smiles my beater track car that I will out of this thing and I worry about dinging the paint. It has some cool bits on it, the flat plane crank engine is amazing and the carbon fiber wheels are great but aside from that, what is it? It is a Mustang like you said the same suspension geometry on the front end they been using for 40 years. I can't be impressed by that.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 9 років тому +1

      +Kylroyboi Sadly, you or I are not the target market. For somebody like Matt Farah , this would be a really good ready-to-go track toy that is relatively inexpensive compared to exotics. Think of it as a cheaper alternative to a Porsche or Ferrari etc. Sure it's not as pure as a Lotus, but the Trans Am Mustangs have always had a big racing heritage.

    • @snozbaries
      @snozbaries 9 років тому

      +Kylroyboi not true the front suspension is brand new in all mustangs plus the gt350s have magna-ride

    • @Kylroyboi
      @Kylroyboi 9 років тому

      +Brandon Wyatt its a McPherson strut. It's cheap to make and totally inferior to a double wishbone or some similar set up that you will find on the Camaro an Audi or BMW. The parts themselves are new but it's the same design they have been using forever. This design makes it very difficult (impossible) to have optimal tire contact on both tires in a turn. If Ford wants to turn this car into a track car they will have to fix this. But then again, it's a Mustang. It's supposed to be relatively cheap.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 9 років тому

      Kylroyboi The vast majority of BMWs, Audis and Porsches **DO** use McPherson strut suspenion on the front. The 911 uses McPherson strut front suspension and always has. Heck, Cayman has McPherson struts on both ends of the car. Likewise all BMW M3s from the E30 through to the current model all use McPherson strut front suspension. In fact McPherson struts are very common on German cars. Like for like, the Ford GT is the car you should be comparing to the Audi R8 and so on, and the Ford GT matches the double wishbone front suspension design of rival supercars from those German brands you mention.

    • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 9 років тому

      Kylroyboi PS. A Camaro has McPherson strut front suspension also!? So I don't follow your point at all. Do you mean Corvette, which would be double wishbone being a pure sportscar? :)

    • @savagegeese

      The big draw here is the high revving V8 NA motor. It's always consistent, its a huge pro when everyone is going turbo and lower revs. Its something you appreciate more on track than street.

    • @MistrMcGill
