Also known as Howdon Lane Level Crossing.
One of five open level crossings (without barriers) and one of eight crossings in total of the Tyne and Wear Metro, operated by Nexus. This crossing only has warning lights (wigwags) and alarms to warn of trains. The metro has five of these crossings, making them all quite unique as they are frequently used by metro trains every hour. They are by far the busiest mainline specification open crossings in the UK. For each open crossing, there was a speed limit set at 15km/h (10mph) for all metrocars and every one must sound their horn before passing.
A schoolboy tries his luck as seen in the video, running across as the train was about to depart.

Thank you. I was wondering if I would catch anyone quickly dash across the tracks in-front of any metro trains and sure enough lol. Waiting a few seconds for the train to pass is all that's needed.

Excellent Video! 👍🏻👍🏻 This crossing seems to get quite misused. That person misused before the loud horn! I’d call that a trespass.

Thank you. I would call it misuse if someone doesn't use a crossing correctly. I only really associate trespassing if someone walked down the track or crossed at a point that wasn't a level crossing.
