In the mowing scene Marty just projects his own cheating actions on rust. It's his own guilt coming up and he suspects other men just to be like himself.
Little fact: Rust's dialogue - his pessimistic philosophy - is lifted straight from the works of Thomas Ligotti, a philosophical horror writer. Some say it's plagiarism, some say it's inspired by. Still, I highly recommend reading the works of that man, if you're ever in the mood to confront the potential of the true abyss that is. There's nothing quite as brutal and more unforgivingly noir than Ligotti's vision of what the human race is. Can't wait for your thoughts on episode 4! "It's time, isn't it? The black stars..."
I don't think there are any screws loose in Rust at all, I think he really does see reality much clearer than everyone else, and probably clearer than you as well. It's depressive realism; life itself is inherently full of suffering, and the delusional religious fantasies of some life after death is obviously just idiotic fairy tales that people try to convince themselves are true because they can't cope with the hard facts of reality.
@@sparksdrinker5650: Like he says, he can always tell when he's hallucinating. That's something that can happen from a wide variety of neurological damage, which is exactly what he explains that he has. That's not a "screw loose" in the psychological sense, any more than e.g. being deaf would be. He's entirely correct when he says he's the person in the entire state who least needs any counseling; if someone's got screws loose, it's pretty much everyone other than him.
@@sparksdrinker5650: And I'm telling you he doesn't have any screws lose at all. It's everyone around him who are totally delusional. And I just explained how the hallucinations part doesn't have anything to do with what it means to have screws lose, those hallucinations are a sensory problem, like being deaf is.
"The world needs bad men, Marty. We keep the other bad men from the door." That line lives rent free in my head to this day.
Elie back doing a reaction to one of the greatest seasons of television ever!
🫡😎
10 years later, episode 3's ending still sticks with me.

Love your reactions Elie!

Thanks, Elie! 🔍
I can relate to Rust. I only admit it because this is anonymous. He's also super hot. Handsome and dysfunctional! 😔
Wow those subtitles are bad. Marty says "cases" and the sub reads "acacias". What the actual f?

Oh he's definitely got some screws loose, including hallucinations. But he manages to hold it together really well.

@@hoon_sol it's not debilitating (yet), and he's dealing with it. I didn't say the screws fell out, some are just loose, it's ok.

@@hoon_sol no you're arguing none of his screws fell out, which i agree with. just loose.
