Go ahead and let me know your thoughts on the region, and tell me in the comments whether you have ancestry from any of these 3 nations, and whether you identify as White, Black, Mestizo, Mulatto or something else all together. Thanks for watching!

Punta is a Garifuna Music genre as well as cultural dance. It is as poetic folk art genre through which social commentary is frequently expressed. The dance represents sexual dialogue between male and female who attempt to outdo each other with unique stylized movements. It is characterized by the shaking of the hips and features an almost motionless upper torso in contrast to the constant movement of the hips, legs, and feet, creating the characteristic shaking of the buttocks found in many African-derived dances.

I’m Cuban, and what annoys me a lot is that in the US I can’t say I’m Caribbean. I don’t like the term Latina or Latinx because I grew up in a place where no one uses such terms, and culturally we are all so different. Caribbean is the best I can get. But in the US people don’t seem to know that Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, and they tell me that if I’m not black I can’t be Caribbean. It’s so frustrating! Anyway....Thank you for your video! I’m a new subscriber.

Now if someone is genuinely interested in what you mean by being Caribbean educate them yet if they want to try and tell you who and what you are tell em' to kick rocks!!! This is scientific and genetic FACTS
      1.) Black
      2.) White
      3.) "Yellow"
When these 3 "races" mixes they produce human beings of different shades and "colors"
They ALL stems for THREE races period.

Mi gente! I'm Greek-Dominicano, born and raised in Greece to a Greek father and a Dominican mother. Never questioned my lineage from my father's side, as his family was Greek and didn't have any records of having a mixed marriage, at least for a few generations. My mom, on the other hand, became an orphan quite early in her life and didn't knew much about her ancestry, with poor documentation making things even harder. I know that we have some african and native blood on our Dominican family, but I can't be sure when and who was the last "pure gene donor" (If that is even a term for it). All I know is that i was raised in Europe being perceived as a white male for the most part, even though I have a darker complex that you would expect even for a Greek person, especially during summer time. But I never felt I was white, and surely neither black. My father's half, which I'm very proud of, is Greek and is one of the oldest European ethnicities, while my Mothers half comes from another, different type of gene pool, with African ancestors brought by force, native people who where trying to clinch to life by interracial breeding and European/Asian settlers and immigrants. So the latter parts make me feel as a person of the world, having the superpower to call all earth home and all humans brothers. Mi Gente TQM!

There is nothing unique about the Caribbean in terms of variety of races . The Middle East is the same. Northern Africa around the Mediterranean is the same and so is Europe with its immense immigrant population and the differences among its Mongolian-influenced Eastern and Russian regions, its Arabian-influenced Southern regions, and its Northern regions with their diverse physically different types such as Nordics and Laplanders who have a strong Mongoloid heritage.
Also, the rest of the Americas, such as Brazil, Central America, Venezuela, etc are similar in racial varieties and admixtures. Furthermore, USA is composed of a smorgasbord of races and those who proudly claim whiteness and blackness are significantly mixed but cunningly ignore it while focusing their racist attention on Latinos. I am Dominican, the majority of “dark Dominicans” are of Haitian descent. We do not count Haitians as Dominicans even if they are born in the island because WE GO BY BLOOD 🩸 you MUST have at LEAST 1 Dominican parent to be considered Dominican. Haitians DNA makeup is very different than ours which is why even if they are born in DR they cannot be considered Dominicans. Now, there are A LOT of Haitians born in DR speaking Spanish who call themselves Dominicans because that’s all they know. However, REAL BLOODED DOMINICANS are VERY different than Haitians. Culture, languague, religions, music, food EVERYTHING. Also, they are MOSTLY monoracials while us Dominicans are MULTIRACIALS. Keep in mind that there are over 2 MILLIONS IF HAITIANS IN Dominican Republic‼️ a lot of people see a Dominican like me and don’t even think of a Dominican because they are used to seeing HAITIANS as Dominicans 😒 Haiti and DR are like Mexico and the United States! There are other ways to get it of course, if you were to get your aplication for residency approved, after living in DR, after living there for 2 years you can also apply for citizenship :) but in the case you had a kid there with another foreigner, you would also need to apply for the citizenship of your kid. @@Paocean17 I am a proud Palestinian Arab Muslim, and I had the great pleasure and honor to live in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico plus I visited Cuba. As a result I am trilingual and tricultural (Arabic, Spanish and English) and am madly in love with the people, culture and islands of the Hispanic Caribbean. However, as an anti-racist and anti-imperialist activist, I find it repulsive in this day and age to base legal nationality on blood. The modern democratic concept of citizenship is not based on blood but on settling in a country for an extended period of time, speaking the national language, adopting some portion of the local culture and getting involved with the local community, whether by means of total assimilation of or acculturation creating a hyphenated identity. The sad fact is the imperial powers until today have divided and conquered the island nations of the Caribbean, all of them by dividing them by racial mixture, language and culture. This is a great historic tragedy and major source of oppression, which if the native peoples of the Caribbean islands don't overcome, their societies will never progress to modern, powerful, sovereign nationhood. I send my love to all the wonderful brothers and sisters of Cuba, the DR and PR, and pray that very soon you will wake up and unite not only as Hispano-Caribbeans but with the other islands as a united Caribbean People. Also, they actually stated that most Dominican people have a level of self-hatred, and want to associate with almost anything else besides African/Black. Slave history is not discussed, skin complexion is a topic: lightskinned/white is preferable over dark skin. However, the food is African in origin, the dance and music, Origin of Africa, almost every aspect of the Island was originatrd from Africa. It's funny how Hispaniola consists of Haiti and DR; however, the major distinction conspicuous. Haitian people know and except their history; Dominicans, for the most point do not. @@Renzee-ct4wz I agree that unfortunately in many peoples minds there is a physiological war going on. I am sorry for anyone caught up in it. We are all humans. It is a false narrative about Jewish slave masters, and Jews controlling the slave trade.
"Other studies, by Harold Brackman and Saul Friedman, reached similar conclusions. In a 1994 article in the New York Review of Books, David Brion Davis, an emeritus professor of history at Yale University and author of an award-winning trilogy of books about slavery, noted that Jews were one of countless religious and ethnic groups around the world to participate in the slave trade:
The participants in the Atlantic slave system included Arabs, Berbers, scores of African ethnic groups, Italians, Portuguese, Spaniards, Dutch, Jews, Germans, Swedes, French, English, Danes, white Americans, Native Americans, and even thousands of New World blacks who had been emancipated or were descended from freed slaves but who then became slaveholding farmers or planters themselves.
Davis went on to note that in the American South in 1830 there were “120 Jews among the 45,000 slaveholders owning twenty or more slaves and only twenty Jews among the 12,000 slaveholders owning fifty or more slaves.”

Thank you for your clear and concise depiction of our native Taino People wrong. My parents were born in Puerto Rico and I was born here in the mainland USA. I’ve always had trouble identifying with the Puerto Rican culture because of the way that they treated their women. The machismo displayed by the male population has always disgusted me. When I discovered my Taino heritage and researched it I realize that they revered women and saw them as their equals and not as inferior to them. A contrast from the modern-day culture which leads the world in femicide, I feel like people need to hear about the Taino Culture and there contributions to modern day society. They have given me great pride in who I am. They have shown me what type of blood runs through my veins and therefore what I myself am made of. So coming across your video brings me great joy and I simply just wanted to thank you for the recognition. Keep up the good work

In the Dominican Republic (where im from) people dont divide themselves into black and white like here in the US when referring to race, we would just identify as Latino. other then romantic physical preferences, the color of your skin has minimal to no social-political impact over there.
I remember being somewhat confused when i came here to the US and someone asked me if i was Black for the first time, my brain was not wired to see the color of my skin as my race. of course now that i opened my eyes to the paradigm we live in here in the US i identify as Black first, everything else is secondary.

One can`t no say "you are from this or that race" in Cuba, we are very mix and phenotype can be misleading. In Cuba we have blood from the natives Tainos, Africans, meanly from Nigeria, Congo and Mozambique; from Europe, mainly Spanish (not only from Canarias, but from the North of Spain), France and Ireland; From Asia, mainly China, and Japan. Later on in the 20 century from Russia, and easter European countries. So unless you have DNA test is really difficult for Cubans to say I am from this race. Yes, a lot of people say " I am black, I am white, I am half Chinese" but that is merely describing the phenotype. As many Cubans I thought I am mix of black and north Spaniards (although I am dark blonde) but DNA test let me know I am 70% Irish, 20 % Spaniard and 10% middle eastern, so there you go ! At the end we all came from Africa and we all humans.

I’m Cuban too born and raised so are my mother and father , all 4 grandparents and all 8 great grandparents. Funny you mentioned the main ones in our country of African, European and Asian, because growing up I always knew I had all three of these and when I took my DNA test, sure enough I had them all. African (from my dad) Erupean ,Asian and North African (from my mom).
56% African ( (37% West African Yoruba tribe from Nigeria, Akan from Siera Leone ) Kenyan and North African from Algeria & Morocco) 38% European (20% from Basque Country Spain, rest from Balkan and Northwest Europe), Asian 6% (China my maternal grandmother’s father was half Chinese born and raised in Cuba). I wasn’t at all surprised about my results as far as the three continents I’m connected to, but it was interesting to know specifically where from at least for the African side since I had no idea besides knowing it’d somewhere in the West and for sure in the North.
