Controversial opinion, but I actually like Screen. The advantage of overstimulating your opponent and causing them to slow their reaction time is awesome. I do agree thought that it's too potent and could stand to be toned down. The sizzle sgx being removed would be nice

@@JDSTACKALOTT I 5 starred the vunder and experienced lots of bombs. Best way to deal with them is either baiting them to throw one or ambush them while they're low on ink. Still, the shield's way too fragile and needs something. Maybe a bomb reflect like TF2's Pyro or Overwatch's Genji?
I think the tierlist at the end could show the kits relative positions compared to the original kit for a coherent comparison and then compared to other weapons that are standouts from each tier to give overall perspective
Splattercolor Screen needs a drastic revamp and quick. it’s simultaneously too weak to be threatening and also a huge problem, because the ingame impact is too little and the irl impact on the player is stacked way too high against people with disabilities. Pain and nausea should not be caused by a special, that should not be a use case for it nor something to keep in a game
Somebody suggested that it give you something akin to Salmon Run fog, and I think that + the audio being messed up would be both way cooler and cause way fewer problems.
Honestly, the main problem with sensory issues is that the ink screen makes shit way too damn bright, but also very frequently isn't effective at making inks hard to tell apart. They should just change it so it's grayscale, but with the brightness lowered appropriately and make it so Ink colors all show up as identical colors while you're colorblind. That would make it actually hindering to lose color vision while also fixing the brightness problem
I actually really love the painbrush nouveau, as a support and a slayer. Missles obviously synergises well with it, and sensor is great to throw out during the weapons extensive downtime, and also good with its ability to hit over cover with very little fall-off.
I feel like they should've gone with something more aggressive though, since the original Painbrush already had a more supportive kit. I don't know what they have with making slow weapons into support weapons, but an aggressive Painbrush would be super fun, and now we'll have to wait for a third kit to see that.

i actually really liked the kit design this season (other than flux deco and maybe paintbrush and cblast) all the weapons feel strong and have some kind of niche
cblast is outclassed but it feels SO good to use. Point sensor just feels so good on it, knowing where your opponents are is so useful on a weapon that REALLY struggles to play at anything other than its effective range
Screen is honestly such a cool special. It can definitely be stronger with 35 dmg, a little more speed and if user side got thermal ink by default, it’d be awesome!
It's nice to see screen being discussed outside of the accessibility problem, when working as intended it's very underwhelming as a displacement special, pIus I find it really dumb that the screen isn't transparent to your own team, you shouldn't need to run thermal ink to fully benefit from your own special
I played Reeflux Deco for a bit and I found it very useful in helping to hold down your backliner's position, especially the Hydra's. Throw down the wall in front to protect it while it's charging up and use the main weapon to zone them out from getting close, the special as a last ditch effort to distract them while the Hydra gets away. They gave a kit to be aggressive, but I ended up playing supportive 😅
A good way to fix splatter color screen would be to cover majority of the players screen like the Blooper Item in Mario Kart The sizzling sound could change to the SFX and music fading out and fading back in when it’s done
I couldnt play splatoon 3 for several months for personal reasons and i just now remembered to check about the latest season and the weapon kits. And they brought splashdown back. Hooray.
Kits are honestly pretty nice this season it has a really good mix of competitive and casual hype. Even with Reeflux deco it kind of has niche use of farming p for the new Wandercrust rewards.
Assuming they listen to player feedback and adjust screen's issues. . .Foil Squeezer is definitely something I intend on practicing. Guess for now I keep at 1*'ing everything and then go to work on playing with the vanilla for a bit.
im doing the same thing. im focusing on 4*ing the regular squeezer until they hopefully fix the flashbang of getting hit by the screen. i use the special as a larger splash wall to cut off enemies from progressing, but there are people that use it in an asshole way. I put it in positions where escaping from it is possible and idk if anyone has been hit by the walls I put unless the willingly swim through it. i like the foil squeezer and the screen but hate that it gives some people headaches all the way to seizures.

Out of all the kits in the game, I find the BP splatling nouveau's kit useful on TC. Reason why it's because you can place an inkmine on the tower, and if you're under heavy fire, use the ink vac to protect yourself from enemy ink.

Since this comment has become a screen discussion I'll add: I like the idea of a special that disorients and overstimulates a person IRL like a flashbang, indirectly making the screen function like displacement cause of how uncomfortable it makes a person feel, making them want to avoid it by retreating by Making the price of getting hit by it difficult to see, focus or play but I do agree it shouldn't be causing headaches so could be toned down abit.
The concept of a disorienting special is cool, but the problem is that some players are relatively fine while others have headaches, discomfort, nausea, and even fainting. As such, it needs a revamp to create a more accessible environment (e.g. instead of grayscale, making both ink colors the same)
As someone who's negatively affected by the Screen right now (headache and mild nausea, mainly from the sound), I also like the idea of a disorientation weapon. At the moment, though, I don't think its effects work particularly well no matter how you slice it. It's *too* effective against one subset of players, and I have trouble imagining that it's all that disorienting against most others (see colour-to-greyscale issues with the ink). Given better effects that offer a more level playing field, the Foil Squeezer would probably be my main right now.

Question: would the painbrush nouveau kit be better if it had line marker instead of point sensor? Marker doesn't offer any combos with the main weapon, but it does offer a quick, cheap painting option for mobility. Personally I'd have loved to see it with marker, but line marker is also my favorite sub so I'm a little bit biased
I’d put Painbrush Nouveau lower than Sunder. Sunder’s kit isn’t the best synergy, but it’s useful in a supporting role as it can tank some, locate with torpedo, and give cover with screen. With Painbrush, it lost the poking tool from the vanilla kit and instead gets a special that’s more favorable to backline weapons, which makes it feel like it doesn’t know what role it’s supposed to play.
I don't know what Nintendo has with giving short range weapons a support special and no bomb... I mean, when has that EVER worked? It just leaves the short range weapon with no way to get in or be aggressive.
ok i checked the stamper's japanese name and in japanese it IS referred to as a nouveau weapon (or a 'Hue' weapon, since that's the japanese name for the nouveau brand). so, yeah. translation team fucked this one up!
Thing about the name of the Neo Splatana Stamper, that's already a mouthful every instance it appears on screen (loadout menu, "splatted by" screen). Nouveau would only exacerbate that. So I get why they just said "fuck it" and went with Neo
I have a huge hot take that would probably make Splashdown worth running and it is by changing one attribute, make the 60 sour fist hits do a total of 100-120 damage. Now this is still survivable to some degree considering that Squid Roll armour would allow you to survive one of the fists. It might not make this special top tier but it surely make it way more of an actual threat and can synergies a lot more with other weapon kits.
This list is pretty valid. I’m glad I chose the Foil Squeezer as my first weapon to try for the season tbh. I might want to try using thermalink with it after watching this though.
I'm enjoying the Enperry Splat Dualies. It is really about timing with that one. The special does need to tweak it a bit more. Also, gear I use on other dualies, almost always dark tertras, doesn't work quite as good
IMO I agree with the squeezer being at the top, but with the chances that screen is banned, if this does happen, I would say put stamper above. plus, since if it isnt banned just limited, then still put it in second because of how it will only be allowed against certain teams. still. it is wasy stronger than stamper.
i think splashdown is fine. the extra fists are a better challenge, and even though its paint isnt great, the strat you can build is much more useful. and i havent seen a SINGLE snipewriter.
Their idea for the nex Reeflux must have been that "we want to make it a fighting weapon instead of a special spam/painter weapon" so they gave it Reefslider to approach, and Ink Wall to stay behind cover and use it as a protection tool while chipping away at opponents... Nintendo please... And it's even 200 points for special like what the heck...
Judging by neo being at the beginning while weapons with the actual neo brand are always at the end, plus knowing it's by nouveau, I think it's a similar case to splat brella where even though that weapon has splat in the name, it's not actually splat brand, except this time there's no logical explanation for it
Screen is the most trash special I have ever used. I feel like I'm getting nothing out of it when I use it. They need to make it so you can see thru it and splashdown needs speed buffs. Erm also can I please have a zipcaster armor buff next patch so it can be more consistent :)))))))
I will say splashdown can retain special when dying pretty often depending on the timing. It also just often goes off if you use it as a kamikaze button in my experience. It might not kill anyone, but it definitely forces them to move or shoot the fists too. It's really impressed me while not super strong it feels way more useful than slider ever has. Enperry Dualies feel like a kit balanced around a cracked main weapon, while I think the splat dailies themselves are only barely passable weapons. Obviously the crab kit is so strong it's hard to compete, but in theory it's got enough differences and synergies to have a niche. Except the niche where you want curling and the niche where splashdown is effective have next to no overlap. They want opposite map geometry. It's funny because curling to position splashdown is quite strong synergy, but they otherwise are so conflicting it feels like you're only playing with half a kit at any given moment.
I personally don't think Splashdown should get the startup buff reverted again, that would make it a bigger problem in lower ranks where people have trouble reacting to it
Squeezer player here and thermal I feel is going to be (basically) necessary to run. And it’s not like squeezer is extremely gear dependent because it’s still very flexible with what it runs.
I honestly enjoy screen on sunder. Although it might be on the weaker half (especially competitively), screen provides some sort of cover, to be annoying and skirmish more. I do wish that screen was fully opaque, not see through in some patches, as it would help to play it like how i do. It would be like playing on a smoke, as seen in games like valorant and cs. A really interesting addition, though.
So far I'm enjoying new Squeezer and Reef-Lux. Yes Reef-Lux's kit isn't great, but it is a Reef-Lux and I love that weapon lol. I do prefer vanilla Stamper and S-Blast and Pencil more tbh... I am hiding out in Salmon Run tho and hoping that Splattercolor Screen gets fixed.
if im not being biased, then it'd have to go 9.reef deco (sorry bow bros, at least the slider buff made it sorta useable. idk why'd you pick it over the vanilla kit tho) 8.cblast (do non-backline weapons even get any use out of point sensor?) 7.painbrush noveau (missles awesome, but it got point sensor lol) 6.snipewriter 5b (wall is really good with it, but rain is just ok) 5.sunder (it's not as good with screen as fsqueeze, but we got the better sub, so it balances out) 4.fsqueeze (see sunder) 3.enperries (you can go into enemy territory with curling and then activate splashdown, very funny) 2.sblast 91 (definitely the biggest improvement over the vanilla kit out of all the weapons) 1.stamper neo (as if stamper wasn't already a pain in the ass to deal with, they just had to give it toxic mist)

Stamper in general has really high object damage so your shield basically doesnt exist Custom blast and sblast can just blast over the shield Painbrush also does some decent object damage Flux and dualies dont really counter it outside of slider and sd doing enough damage to break the shield
@@hanuta8859 In order 1. Emperry Dualies: Dualies were already hard to kill 'cause if you miss slightly you do 0 damage, but give them a spec that can kill you from behind you're boned 2. Neo Stamper: The vertical slashes on any sword can already 1 shot the brella's shield and since the mist can drain ink and slow you down it just makes the brella easier to kill, plus the high damage and range of the crab tank makes killing it that much easier. 3+4. Blast 91 and Custom Blaster: I shouldn't have to explain, all blasters can hit from behind plus the added aoe specs make the brella a joke. 5. Reef Deco: Though the Reef is considerably weak the wall can extend its life against the brella, that added with the initial shot being able to take down the brella's shield in 1 shot, plus the Slider easily gets behind it which can convert to an easy kill if the initial pop only took down the shield 6. Pain-in-the-a-brush Nouveau: Though it is possible to block the oncoming attacks long enough to net a kill, you're boned if the brush knows how to look slightly up. It's the same as other brushes, rollers, and buckets, gravity's on their side. If they angle up they can hit for full damage at close range 7. Snipewriter 5B: Though it's not a hard counter, 5B can grossly outrange the brella and pick it off from a distance, plus rain hits from above, you can't do anything about it 8. Foil Squeezer: This is the only weapon the brella has a chance against and it's still favored for the Squeezer. If you as a brella can close the distance you can net a kill but if the Squeezer's smart they can just throw an auto bomb, break your shield, and 3 tap you from a distance Though I do like how they gave the Sorella UC a more pushy kit, it's still outclassed by everything else, out inked since you only have 4 shots to use after a torpedo, and out damaged since you have to hit dead center if you actually want to damage anything. If they gave it a regular splat bomb like in 2 it probably would stand a chance, but this version just sucks

Triple Splashdown makes way more sense for Sorella Undercover than screen.
S-BLAST '91 is probably the best Blaster in Splatoon history outside of Custom Range from Splatoon 1.

I think the reason the Splatana Stamper is "Neo" instead of "Nouveau" is because they probably didn't have enough character room for "Nouveau".

Question: would the painbrush nouveau kit be better if it had line marker instead of point sensor? Marker doesn't offer any combos with the main weapon, but it does offer a quick, cheap painting option for mobility. Personally I'd have loved to see it with marker, but line marker is also my favorite sub so I'm a little bit biased

Plus it would give it a long range poking tool.

I’d put Painbrush Nouveau lower than Sunder. Sunder’s kit isn’t the best synergy, but it’s useful in a supporting role as it can tank some, locate with torpedo, and give cover with screen. With Painbrush, it lost the poking tool from the vanilla kit and instead gets a special that’s more favorable to backline weapons, which makes it feel like it doesn’t know what role it’s supposed to play.
I don't know what Nintendo has with giving short range weapons a support special and no bomb...

ok i checked the stamper's japanese name and in japanese it IS referred to as a nouveau weapon (or a 'Hue' weapon, since that's the japanese name for the nouveau brand). so, yeah. translation team fucked this one up!
Thing about the name of the Neo Splatana Stamper, that's already a mouthful every instance it appears on screen (loadout menu, "splatted by" screen). Nouveau would only exacerbate that. So I get why they just said "fuck it" and went with Neo

I have a huge hot take that would probably make Splashdown worth running and it is by changing one attribute, make the 60 sour fist hits do a total of 100-120 damage.
Now this is still survivable to some degree considering that Squid Roll armour would allow you to survive one of the fists. It might not make this special top tier but it surely make it way more of an actual threat and can synergies a lot more with other weapon kits.
This list is pretty valid. I’m glad I chose the Foil Squeezer as my first weapon to try for the season tbh. I might want to try using thermalink with it after watching this though.

I'm enjoying the Enperry Splat Dualies. It is really about timing with that one. The special does need to tweak it a bit more. Also, gear I use on other dualies, almost always dark tertras, doesn't work quite as good
IMO I agree with the squeezer being at the top, but with the chances that screen is banned, if this does happen, I would say put stamper above. plus, since if it isnt banned just limited, then still put it in second because of how it will only be allowed against certain teams. still. it is wasy stronger than stamper.
i think splashdown is fine. the extra fists are a better challenge, and even though its paint isnt great, the strat you can build is much more useful. and i havent seen a SINGLE snipewriter.

Their idea for the nex Reeflux must have been that "we want to make it a fighting weapon instead of a special spam/painter weapon" so they gave it Reefslider to approach, and Ink Wall to stay behind cover and use it as a protection tool while chipping away at opponents... Nintendo please... And it's even 200 points for special like what the heck...
Judging by neo being at the beginning while weapons with the actual neo brand are always at the end, plus knowing it's by nouveau, I think it's a similar case to splat brella where even though that weapon has splat in the name, it's not actually splat brand, except this time there's no logical explanation for it
Spattercolor screen is wholesome cause it forces the other team to stop playing so I win
Easy screen fix is to just get rid of the screens monochrome effect and just making your side see through.

Screen is the most trash special I have ever used. I feel like I'm getting nothing out of it when I use it. They need to make it so you can see thru it and splashdown needs speed buffs. Erm also can I please have a zipcaster armor buff next patch so it can be more consistent :)))))))
I think screen should give opponents who are hit by it the thermal ink effect for you or maybe your entire team to see

I will say splashdown can retain special when dying pretty often depending on the timing. It also just often goes off if you use it as a kamikaze button in my experience. It might not kill anyone, but it definitely forces them to move or shoot the fists too. It's really impressed me while not super strong it feels way more useful than slider ever has.
Enperry Dualies feel like a kit balanced around a cracked main weapon, while I think the splat dailies themselves are only barely passable weapons. Obviously the crab kit is so strong it's hard to compete, but in theory it's got enough differences and synergies to have a niche. Except the niche where you want curling and the niche where splashdown is effective have next to no overlap. They want opposite map geometry. It's funny because curling to position splashdown is quite strong synergy, but they otherwise are so conflicting it feels like you're only playing with half a kit at any given moment.
If it was fizzy instead it would be the perfect kit

Squeezer player here and thermal I feel is going to be (basically) necessary to run. And it’s not like squeezer is extremely gear dependent because it’s still very flexible with what it runs.

I honestly enjoy screen on sunder. Although it might be on the weaker half (especially competitively), screen provides some sort of cover, to be annoying and skirmish more. I do wish that screen was fully opaque, not see through in some patches, as it would help to play it like how i do. It would be like playing on a smoke, as seen in games like valorant and cs. A really interesting addition, though.
Enperry might be not too good but oh my god it's so fun! I still cry because of the loss of the splatoon 2 enperry kit tho..

Stamper in general has really high object damage so your shield basically doesnt exist
Custom blast and sblast can just blast over the shield
Painbrush also does some decent object damage
Flux and dualies dont really counter it outside of slider and sd doing enough damage to break the shield

In order
1. Emperry Dualies: Dualies were already hard to kill 'cause if you miss slightly you do 0 damage, but give them a spec that can kill you from behind you're boned
2. Neo Stamper: The vertical slashes on any sword can already 1 shot the brella's shield and since the mist can drain ink and slow you down it just makes the brella easier to kill, plus the high damage and range of the crab tank makes killing it that much easier.
3+4. Blast 91 and Custom Blaster: I shouldn't have to explain, all blasters can hit from behind plus the added aoe specs make the brella a joke.
5. Reef Deco: Though the Reef is considerably weak the wall can extend its life against the brella, that added with the initial shot being able to take down the brella's shield in 1 shot, plus the Slider easily gets behind it which can convert to an easy kill if the initial pop only took down the shield
6. Pain-in-the-a-brush Nouveau: Though it is possible to block the oncoming attacks long enough to net a kill, you're boned if the brush knows how to look slightly up. It's the same as other brushes, rollers, and buckets, gravity's on their side. If they angle up they can hit for full damage at close range
7. Snipewriter 5B: Though it's not a hard counter, 5B can grossly outrange the brella and pick it off from a distance, plus rain hits from above, you can't do anything about it
8. Foil Squeezer: This is the only weapon the brella has a chance against and it's still favored for the Squeezer. If you as a brella can close the distance you can net a kill but if the Squeezer's smart they can just throw an auto bomb, break your shield, and 3 tap you from a distance
Though I do like how they gave the Sorella UC a more pushy kit, it's still outclassed by everything else, out inked since you only have 4 shots to use after a torpedo, and out damaged since you have to hit dead center if you actually want to damage anything. If they gave it a regular splat bomb like in 2 it probably would stand a chance, but this version just sucks

Bad ink efficiency: use main saver (3 subs or 1 main is good enough)
Lack of mobility: learn squid rolling well and don't go for risky positions
The GODDAMM 23 frame startup window: squid roll before swinging and flank the opponent by his side
