What is utterly GUTTING is the Universal Studios fire of 2008 that destroyed THOUSANDS of irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind silent movies and black-and-white movies over 100 years old.
Just heartbreaking. At the time, I worked at a television audio post-production company in Burbank and we could see the plume of smoke from our office.
I had no idea what a catastrophe it was. Television shows were saved as there were duplicates, but many Musical recordings were lost
Yes and great radio dramas. If it wasnt a fire, it was neglect and rot. Omg so sad, for us for sure!

He was a terrible alcoholic and was a problem for directors and actors.

True story. When they found the Mary Celeste she was still floating, no souls aboard, incl. Capt.,his wife and child. So many myths and stories surrounded this mystery. But the truth was, the cargo was alcohol and it began to leak. The fumes were deadly so the Capt. ordered everyone into the lifeboat and tied a rope to the ship. When aired out, they all wld return, but the waves tipped the lifeboat over and all drowned most likely. Sad effort. 🙏

I watched a documentary about the Mary Celeste years ago, and that was what they came to conclude was the most likely scenario
Bela Lugosi was just excellent - even in this low budget number, he knows how to rake up the tension. Love all his films, but never seen this one before. Thanks.
NB - the real Mary Celeste 'mystery' takes a simpler dimension when you realise that both Captains (of the 'Celeste ans the ship that picked her up) knew each other very well, and had been deep in conversation before they each sailed. Can never be sure what happened, but my money's on an insurance job.

There is another story of the Mary Celeste. I read this in about 1956, that the ship reported a bright flying object following the ship. ( on a different sail)

Only the shortened American version, known as The Phantom Ship, as here, is known to exist. Apparently, the twenty minutes that were cut for the US release were mainly courtroom sequences set in Gibraltar, in which the court tries to solve the mystery, which originally opened and closed the film

That's why I had a smirk at Rachel Ziegler calling the 30s Snow White film out for being outdated. She's sporting the same 30s hair style for the remake as the OG SW who only had it because it was a 30s film. Today's actors are not chosen for brains.
