What a great and touching tribute. I know I'll definitely miss hearing this sound which will forever be tied to trains in Melbourne, at least for me. It just won't be the same without these horns. RIP.
as someone who lives near the Hurstbridge line i sadly never got to experience these beautiful tin cans happily roll along the rails, now its just the dang xtrapolis sets.
gonna miss hearing these. they were my childhood, made it easy to tell when the train was about to depart if i was unfortunate to be stuck standing on a peak PM service
I’m going to miss hearing these lovely comengs. So sad they’re a thing of the past. Melbourne just won’t be the same without them 😢😢😢 farewell old friend ❤
I already miss them. I ride daily along the Upfield Bike Trail and it's always nice to hear these, usually a good indicator if the level crossing ahead is going to be down. Hopefully some get preserved!
When the Comengs are preserved I hope that 1. A full set is preserved, maybe with a mix of EDI refurb and Alstom refurb cars (don't think it would be possible to restore to original unrefurb state) 2. They are refitted with RVB horns. Comengs are not the same with the new horns (I hope they didn't just throw the RVB ones away)
I am surprised they are replacing the horns on these 1980s units, implying they'll still be using Comeng trains for a few more years, despite HCMTs and Xtrapolis 2.0s entering service.
The new horns are terrible. I know nothing about trains, except that, regardless of propulsion method, they are required to go “woo woo”. The new horns go “paaaarp”, which is categorically not “woo woo”, and is therefore in breach of the requirements to be a train.
RIP comeng RVB. It certainly won't be the same without hearing that iconic sound anymore
:(
Comeng trains are a classic, they should be Heritage Listed .

I can hear the happiness of the horns as they go into retired heaven to join the others🥲
Indeed
gonna miss hearing these. they were my childhood, made it easy to tell when the train was about to depart if i was unfortunate to be stuck standing on a peak PM service

Such an iconic Melbourne sound, it's a shame it's gone for good now
I mean it’s not gone for good Taits still have them and other trains
Heritage services exist
I appreciate all the clips including level crossings, another thing we're largely getting rid of! RIP RVB comeng.

I had to say I'm gonna miss these Comeng RVB horn as soon as i came in Melbourne by 2023 before the New Rubbish horn trial came to replace

First z3 130 gets withdrawn and now all comeng train have lost their iconic horn
It’s sad that they’re going away. I kind of want to know if I can buy one and put it on my car.
is the comengs train still on service or it just retired?
Still in service!
I just hope they keep a few in preservation or even for some enthusiasts to own.
Is it possible there are a couple still left on middle cab cars
All are done
