    John, your methodical well thought out analysis on products and methods is nothing short of great, and so appreciated. This video reminded of when I was a teenager playing old school Dungeons and Dragons, you know with all the funky multi sided dice, where you generated your characteristics, and how strong each would be, hence detetming what your character was going to be . Each one of the products excelled in one area or so. Making them all great, and a difficult choice if you had interest in applying one. What is most important in your world? Durability? Gloss? Self Cleaning? Etc.? What strengths do you desire on your "character" given there isn't the holy grail? ....yet.

    Thanks for the review Jon.
    We’re disappointed to have come last of course.
    It would have been good to see a pour test also, pour out into small caps then allow to dry and I think you’ll see why CQuartz lite is more durable(and hence more expensive per ml)
    Maybe something for future tests 👍🏻
    Hope you’re doing well in the lockdown.

      I think more so than most video or tests Ive done the points really dont mean that much. the lite product is slightley the odd one out here, maybe just the price point is what cost it because it has a little bit more performance than the other ones. theres nothing in it. I would happily use all 4 of these product and you could maintain them well with elixir. stay safe mate.

    • @LSD04
      @LSD04 4 роки тому +2

      It may have come last but you can take what you want from the points as I still went with this and applied it on Friday. Things like cost per ml doesn’t matter if you’ll never finish the bottle. It’s more about what you want from a product, Looking forward to see how this performs also picked up Elixir.

      Being honest I am looking at a lite ceramic coating and have been looking at yours, this test only served to prove that yours is a good product even though it came last.
      Where it won for me was durability and ease of application, the price point was not an issue because all the other factors were so much more positive so it would be worth the extra.

    Good review of these products. I do enjoy both CanCoat and Cquartz Lite. I just picked up the new version of Adams spray coating with the UV glow technology. One tip with CanCoat and that is to flush the sprayer with hot water after each use. I did that and my original sprayer lasted a really long time. I also put the original lid back on the product.

    Great video and info, as usual :) Right now I'm using Carpro ech2o 10:1 as a QD/drying aid/topper. I can get a month out of it on top of Halfords wash and wax, and it does have some self cleaning. Planning to use Can Coat on the car at the spring clean on the test car (aka the mrs motor), topped with wet coat at 4/6 week intervals with ech2o as a drying aid. Maybe use Geyon cure at 8/12 weeks. going to wash with Bathe ;) I believe Can Coat includes 3 sprayers and tells you to keep the bottle top, so basically fixed. Hopefully I can get a years worth from 2 applications/2 coats of can coat 6 months apart.

Another benefit that many says is incredible is that Moonlight works awesome on plastic trim and rubber seals too. While as you mentioned Carpro lite is very much close to a ceramic coating.

    Super useful review John, hope to get more like this. Have been wondering for a while if slickness is just a tactile thing, or it actually helps preventing dust and road grime from attaching to the paint, which to me would be more desirable. Can someone weigh in on this?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  4 роки тому

      some chemicals you can add to liquid based products specifically for anti static properties to help repel dust. Im not sure if these will have any of that specifically. the actually ingredients of these products is hard to know. Still not really confirmed if they are based on liquid inorganic silane.

  • @macallanvintage
    @macallanvintage 2 роки тому

    You already knew that very strong chemicals can soften, liquify and remove those products under test.
    When your brush agitated those chemicals on ONE panel, you slid the brush straight to the next panel and then the next. By doing so, you have cross-contaminated all your different test panels.
    This is a classic silly mistake made by many detailing channels, resulting in wildly varying inconsistent findings.
    Logically, any chemicals and suds on each panel should never touch the next panel, in order to prevent cross-contamination.
    Lovely video btw, and thank you so much for the crazy amount of time and effort spent to produce such videos! SUBSCRIBED! Thanks😇👍

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  2 роки тому +1

      These chemicals cannot liquify or remove these products that way. Solvents work that way. Surfactants work through emusifying. There is no cross contamination in this test.

    I put cquartz lite on a bunch of cars right when it came out the same week so I’m starting to see these cars back and it held up well carpro 6-9 months is conservative I bet it will go longer it is like a straight up coating just easier to apply. Cancoat started this market cqlite has nailed it. Moonlight is not in same league and could really benefit from a reformulation, save moonlight for trim and tires. Adam spray coating is better than moonlight but out done by cancoat and cqlite

    • @gjo323x

    Great video. Are these light ceramics easier to remove that full blown coatings, also ceramic infused products (like the new Turtle Wax stuff and Meguiars HCW etc). Do they interfere with future cutting/polishing and different waxes/sealants? You mentioned they're a good base coat, what would be a good "top" coat? Are they compatible with more traditional waxes/sealants or do they mask/suppress its effect? Are they a base for a more permanent ceramic coating?
    I'm sorry I don't know much about ceramics.

    • @ForensicDetailing

    Jon just a general question about the testing procedure. After the products cured, did you do a light contact wash? I’m curious if the products improve in performance after 1 contact wash. I’m curious if there are carrier oils or other leftover substances that could negatively affect how a product performed, but would wash away after 1 normal wash. Thanks great video.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  4 роки тому +1

      after products are cured. I give one light final wipe in case any dust from overnight falls on in garage.. then slick test. then gloss and haze. Then bead test with water.. then detergent chem test.. there are no oils as such that need degreasing after the cure. the components they put in there (they say oil) but its not oil as we know it.. they are compatible resins or oils with the materials.. so there is a solvent "fuse" still.. when the fuse vapes. it exposes the materials to moisture and typically the hydrogen and oxygen in it cause a state change or a chemical reaction to the material.. AKA RTV cure.. This is my guess though.. everything I know is from reading myself and researching (or most of it) I have no chem company feeding me information like lots of the brands.. the downside is half the stuff I say might be wrong :) but fuck it sounds good :)

    I really liked the test you did on Gyeon Wet Coat about the repelling of dirt. Would you do a similar "battle" among other product to see which are good at it? After years of detailling, i realized that i really care about that characteristic, more than beading truely. Gloss and self cleaning are really important for a protection product. UV protection and protection against strong contamination (like bird poop or brake dust) are also characteristics that are never talked about, i guess because they are more difficult to test.

Very impressed with the durability as well. The detergent test is strange, why not a pH neutral shampoo? Decon shampoo, ipa probably aren't going to be used every wash, or shouldn't be anyway. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Great video Jon 👍........ one thing that is bugging me with the majority of durability tests on you tube, why not hit them first with screen wash?? It’s probably the first chemical to hit the car and that hit it regularly, some of them smell pretty chemically funky too!! I think some of them may give some coatings and waxes a run for there money and this definitely would make me think twice about buying them if they don’t withstand it...... I don’t often drive through a spray of iron fallout remover, isopropyl alcohol and apc and at the times I do 99.99% of the time I’m in control of what chemical I’m using on or near the bodywork where I’m putting it and what I’m trying to achieve as it would be me using it, I have little or no control what the garage put in my washer bottle When I need to use it and also regularly get a good coating of it from the car in front of which I have absolutely no control of the chemicals and contents of and can find no meaningful information as to the effects of this on any selected coating (gyeon can coat at present) which I’ve been really impressed with but am sure the front of the roof above the windscreen has been affected by such chemicals!!!

    Awesome test as always!
    its more frustrating that the most durable product came last in points as one of the strongest points on ceramic coatings is durability. When you take into consideration almost everyone is topping their ceramic coatings with something now days , that alone over rides the others tests as you can obtain the gloss, slickness , etc with a topper. Some people are even using beadmaker on top of the topper which makes it a bit pointless to compare the slickness or gloss of the coating anymore, since beadmaker blows all of the out of the park in this department . If we were to judge on that alone, cquartz lite would come on top , as you would want your base coat to be the most durable and your toppers to be less durable ( and the ones bringing the glossiness and slickness out of the paint). For someone doing a light polish once a year, to me cquartz lite would make more sense , while the other products would be questionable on the 1 year durability . I ll be curious to see a continuation of this tests applying their applicable topper , not so much on durability but on glossiness and slickness , to me toppers are where you find these 2 categories to shine. We all know coatings are bad for water spots and they all need toppers .

      Chemical resistance is an important feature when measuring the durability of a product, but it is only half the picture. What chemical resistance tests don't take into account is the effect of time and weathering on the products. I call this mechanical durability.
      In the real world, you might wash the car once a week, with chemicals not as harsh as these tests, but in the meantime, particularly in winter, the weather and road spray (which in itself has a potent cocktail of chemicals in it) will work on the products. From what I've seen 9 months is typical from Moonlight.
      As Jon suggests, the SiO2 products with decent levels of solids will likely have better mechanical durability as it is just a tougher layer. The water based Turtlewax product is excellent but whilst it's film is chemically resistant, I think it will break down quicker due to the weathering, which will also adversely affect the chemical resistance as this layer degrades. Even so, on a well prepared panel, up to 6 months is likely which is excellent for such a product.
      This is just my view of course.

    Im pretty sure the car pro lite is an actual coating and the other 3 are SiO2 infused sealants.. no expert but im pretty sure this is not a good comparison. Explaining the durability of carpro lite

      I believe the 3 you talk about do indeed contain some inorganic liquid silozane (sp?) the same material. but I really dont know. I did ask tac and got some wierd answer I didnt understand but I dont think they wanted to discuss certain things which is totally understandable. The way they harden as well suggests to me a similiarity with real coatings but just with a lot more carrier so a lot lower solid levels. honestly though who knows. maybe the 3 use different formats of SI02... but whatever it is theres a real similiarity to proper ceramic coatings for me.

      Then why do the other 3 promote their product as being a coating. Cp lite for the win🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

      We use to have 3 catagories for protection. Wax, paint sealants and coatings. but these days i dont know anymore. there are like 15 catagories. for example: carnauba paste waxes, liquid waxes, hybrid waxes, SiO2 infused paint sealants, polymer paint sealants, titanium infused paint sealants, all kinds of detailing sprays, various coatings, i mean ahhh i lost track

      I know, but theyre more like sealants then coatings really. to much hybrids!!

    Durability is most important test and I’m glad to see car pro lite was easily the winner
