    Don't understand your point about 10 bit. There are two 10-bit shooting modes. However, they can not be used in low light mode and in 120 fps. Also, a bigger lanyard could slip off the wrist when you most need it. Like your sense of self-deprecating humor. By the way, I discovered that you can tap the shooting mode icon on the screen and then use the joy stick to change between them. I found this easier than swiping them.

      @@CharlieVN I found that if you have the gimbal in the "tilt-lock" setting, you can tilt the screen up and the camera will stay level. As to your point about follow-mode being too fast, if it went slow, the subject might go out of frame and the camera would have to hunt for the subject. Finally, gimbal speed is adjustable but I haven't checked as to whether that affect subject tracking.

    You’re one of the ONLY TWO reviewers on UA-cam who reveal the HUGE PRIVACY issue with this camera. When you first turns it on, it will force you to activate it on DJI website. If not, it will lock you out and you won't be able to use it after 5 attempts. This is NOT a rumor, I have confirmed it with my local electronic store and they said that's true. I will never buy a product like that. I don't trust my data being collected by Chinese companies. Imagine Canon, Nikon, and Sony force you to do the same thing! They will lose many customers for sure. We need more reviewers like you.

      Agreed. I didn't have to download the app for my DJI Pocket 2, but the Pocket 3 requires installation of the app. I reluctantly decided to download it, because I really wanted to use this camera for our channel. However, our phones are from Motorola, and they won't allow apps that don't meet EU GDPR standards... which the DJI Mimo app doesn't. This is SO frustrating, because the Pocket 3 has features (like the grid on the screen) that would be SO useful, and a far longer battery life than the Pocket 2. I'm hoping a competitor produces a comparable camera. Meanwhile, this Pocket 3 will - sadly - be returned to Amazon, and an appropriate review left to warn others.

The camera is always tilted if you're panning up and down... that doesn't work well with everyday vlogs. www.dji.com/products/comparison-op it does 8 bit 4:2:0 in H264, 10 bit 4:2:0 in HEVC. The main issue is that D-LOG (preferable for color grading), is only available in strictly video mode, specialty modes like low light, slow motion, and timelapse do not offer D-LOG and if you're an enthusiast, this may matter. If not, using DJI's Normal color on all modes is an option, and that can be done with everything 10 bit with the use of HEVC.

    just received it yesterday - was shocked to discover two things which are huge for me: no pause of recording possible - especially for such a compact camera (allowing filming with minimal effort) it s a HUGE thing to be able to pause recording and up the quality of your work immensly: cuts and clips with cuts without editing...
    not only does it not exist currently - the feature was even removed from the pocket 2 as i understand...
    nr 2: no way to lock exposure on the camera - having to resort to the app and phone just isnt practical in the real world

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  5 місяців тому

      for the first pause of recording, that's a fairly recent development right? I cant recall cameras of the past having that ability. On top of that, how would it work with timecode? the pocket 3 is small, but it has timecode for professional workflows.
      lack of lock exposure is a shame, didnt bring it up because other cameras in the range lack that ability. at least full manual with ev guide exists, but I can see how that can be annoying for small devices.

    • @RA-rd3to
      @RA-rd3to 5 місяців тому

      @@CharlieVN could easily be - i guess - that pausing a recording causes timecode incompatibilities. and apparently - as you mentioned - apple has not even been offering that functionality ever / or only very recently. It has been available on android for ages though - can remember a trip around 2018 doing holiday videos using that.
      apparently it was also available on the pocket 2... a camera like the 2 or 3 with great video quality and gimbal in a supersmall package definitely has potential for great footage "on the go". Pausing and continuing recodings allows one to produce snappy short videos - with "cuts" - and "pizzaz" - but without - or only minimal - editing.
      still have my hopes up that pausing recordings and a simple on camera exposure and/or focus lock are simple functionalities added soon via FW upgrade. ;-)

    I feel like youre expecting it to be more of a higher end camera, but it really is meant to be a mix of action/camera/gimball. Which is exactly why im considering buying an actual camera for low light situations specially because ive been looking at videos and im not convinced. But defiently i think im still going to get it because i would rather use this as long as the lighting is good because it definetly is good having the gimball, something that i dont want to be carrying so much wit a camera+gimbal.
    And about you saying dji is forcing you, i mean i have drones and its nice because you can easily update them and their warranty is very nice and cheap, so in the end i just dont think we should expect this to perform like a video camera . Is bitrate important if you not going to color grade but want good SOOC quality? Sony Xperia 1 V has higher bitrate video than iPhone in auto mode, I not sure but even if it is, it still struggle in low light and doesn't make it looks better with the higher bitrate isn't it?

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  8 місяців тому

      to an extent, yes, it will give you smoother motion and less blockage, but it is small, and wont work miracles. With the Pocket 3, you're in good hands with bitrate, it's very high. The iphone exposes very well, has good computational, slightly larger sensor, slightly larger aperture, compared to the xperia. Lets just say that the apple magic factor is not very well known and constantly underestimated.

      it is a sleep mode, so it’s not completely “off”, and most cameras operate this way (gopro, insta360). the camera does go into a deep sleep at some point. the reason for the sleep is for quick start. I’m not sure there’s a setting to disable this for the dji.

      @CharlieVN I clamped mine to a barn beam recently, used it as a cheap pan/tilt camera. I plugged its USB-C port into a tap on a vmount battery gaffer-taped to the beam. Which kinda defeats the pocket-3's general smallness, but kept the pocket-3 perky and responding to the android phone based interface. They did a lot of things very well, f/u-ed a couple of others.

I'm no action camera pro, nor vlogger, but many are not flaws, more of wishes in features and desires, which all cameras of all shapes and sizes have more to desire. Even non-electronics, like humans, have more we desire in ourselves, hahaha. But it is nice to know more than a smattering of drawbacks or limits. Unlike the Ace Pro, which seems like it's forging new action camera frontiers, but most of the reviews are really rosy, and half the time focused on low light greatness. Though it still seems the Hero 12 still has the best video quality with plenty of light, and I'm saying this whilst I burn with hate on GoPro because of my Hero 8 Black nightmare. From the video I've seen of the Pocket 3, oh man, the video quality looks amazing. Thanks again for not holding back on the facts and opinions, much appreciated.

    I would not call them flaws (but I suppose that gets more views than simply saying “things I’d like to see”). it certainly is super easy to get high quality footage, but the lack of zoom/longer reach would be the biggest downside. Video is one of these things where it takes a lot of effort to make something enjoyable, and for people not to lose interest in 5 seconds. Play with your phone for a bit, edit some videos with lumafusion, then checkout this video to help decide which one inch sensor camera you should get: ua-cam.com/video/hqLCTnfesp8/v-deo.htmlsi=7RCg1UExTdRy7f1I . • @HutjeSiu
    @HutjeSiu 7 місяців тому

    good that half of them can be fixed through firmware update, another thing ppl mentioned was the gimbal rotation range is not as pleasant, especially when it rotates towards left
    maybe the can fix some of them hardware flaws in next gen, but tilt screen i just dont think is feasible in such size. but who knows, people are expecting secondary lens setup in next gen! i mean what else could they advance to make enuf incentive for ppl to change. i honestly dont mind the size getting bigger, its great to be so tiny but really not very favourable for handheld.
    speaking of incentive, non replaceable battery also plays a big role on phasing out products, i hope they at least provide battery replacement service

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  7 місяців тому

      will have to see about that replacement service when it's time. Firmware fixed a major one, not completely, but D-Log M in 4K 120 is huge. Now if they could put it in hyperlapse/timelapse video mode, that would be killer since it's so useful for this device. As for additional lenses, price point would be a lot higher, and you would make a tradeoff in sensor sizing.

    I used mine at the beach this weekend. Here is 2 things you can add to the negatives. First the zoom is awful, at 1.0 the video is beautiful, at 2.0 its not good, at 4.0 it is totally terrible. And in photo mode it only goes to 2.0. Second you cannot take a picture of the moon. It is will not focus at a distance. Might I be doing something wrong?

    • @CharlieVN
      @CharlieVN  7 місяців тому

      havent tried, the exposure difference is wildly off, the moon is basically a daytime vs nighttime shot, you need a high shutter speed, maybe 1/1000, iso 50 to expose for that, and everything else around you will go dark. Technically, focusing 10 foot away and locking it should get everything in focus.

    Overall I think it's a great little camera for fun. I can't see me using it for work but it's handy for UA-cam. Number 6 seems a bit silly as you can just tilt the camera using the joystick so you can see the screen when shooting lower and higher angles. The only criticisms I have are the stupid case that doesn't actually protect the camera, and the fact that it over exposes the highlights quite badly in auto exposure. Looking forward to using mine more over the next few months.

The only feature I was hoping for the Pocket 3 to include is simply "PRESET" having to keep swiping back and forth to switch from 30fps to 60fps and then adjust the shutter speed just takes time and often missed out on critical footage moments.

    Same thing with my pocket 3, the screen is rotation is broken. Out of the box the screen would not close at all. The spring would force it into the horizontal position. Then after a bit of use and storing in the protective cover, the screen seems to be missing any spring. It doesn't want to stay in vertical or horizontal fully. Just mushy rotation as if some internal mechanism is broken. Very unfortunate since it arrived only a few days before a trip so there is no chance of getting it replaced in time. If I cannot get my subject and the surroundings ALL in focus, then that defeats the whole concept of vacation shooting -
